What an interesting idea and great execution! I really enjoyed it. A nice challenge. Got to level 34...

imberny 2024-10-08 04:27

Cool! That webbing navigation must have been tricky to implement! A lot of work packed into this tiny package, good job and interesting mix of ideas!

bobap 2024-10-08 10:44

@scriveneroflight Dang, nice work. I was really hoping to get additional enemies implemented so it wasn't such a long grind just farming the basic fly.

bobap 2024-10-08 10:48

@imberny Oh boy was it ever. I lost all of Saturday to the nav and ended up scrapping that whole implementation because it was so clunky. There are a few edge cases where it bricks itself that I didn't have time to patch for the jam. All that said, I'm very happy with where it ended up.

mrbananaz 2024-10-08 11:34

I love how webs will change position whenever you grab them with another!

bobap 2024-10-08 11:39

@mrbananaz Yes, one of my favorite parts too. That's one of those bugs -> feature scenarios.

rachjn 2024-10-08 15:07

This is so cool! The style reminds me of old flash games. The main mechanic is both fun to play and super well implemented! Had lots of fun being a spider [:

risminator 2024-10-08 15:31

Wooow, the game is so nicely done! It's sometimes tricky to get the spider to go where you want, but it's a puzzle suited for full mobile! Appreciate the effort made to come up with and implement the web mechanic. And solo! Well done!

kotolazer 2024-10-08 15:32

I really enjoyed being a spider. Though the single mechanic is done perfectly, it lacks variety and some gameplay events. Good job!

bobap 2024-10-08 15:42

@risminator True, there are some nav mesh issues that I have a fix for, but ran out of time to implement. It's a lot easier to navigate on controller, but for some reason there are issues with controller on the web build.

bobap 2024-10-08 15:46

@kotolazer Agreed. I lost a lot of time to the web movement mechanic. I have additional "enemies" and a full skill tree planned, including the ability to cocoon bugs. Hopefully I can find time to implement them later this week. Will probably update the Itch version if that happens.

mistagiggles 2024-10-08 15:48

Fantastic concept, and really well executed. Fun to play and slightly addictive. I ended up with a couple of broken "junctions" where webs crossed but I couldn't travel over. That's not surprising though, I imagine the web walking/building is a pretty complicated system. Great job!

bobap 2024-10-08 15:51

@mistagiggles I do have a fix for that, it has to do with a delayed collider activation so you don't end up with zero-distance strands. The delay is just too high.

nubels 2024-10-08 17:16

It's a really interesting mechanic! I do miss some variety though.

taralunga-victor 2024-10-08 17:42

Cool graphics also catches the theme, solid work, thanks :-)

necrotwist 2024-10-08 17:45

This was a really fun and innovating game; I really enjoyed the mechanics. I feel like the stamina regen was a little too slow and it was unclear if it was upgradable or not.

bobap 2024-10-08 17:51

@necrotwist Not as is. I have a more in depth skill system planned out, but ended up running out of time for the jam entry. Now that I'm rested from the weekend I realize I could have slapped some more stat boosts on the attribute point system for lack of the full skill tree.

goldhand 2024-10-08 17:54

interesting mechanics of the web, there are a few problems with it, I got a little stuck in it,over all I like it,+rep for the fact that you made the game solo

bobap 2024-10-08 18:53

@goldhand Yeah, unfortunate side effect of the generation system. I have fixes for most of the issues, but gonna have to wait until after the jam period.

jared-saizdelamora 2024-10-08 23:04

Very unique game idea. Had tons of fun playing. Great job!

nimidori311 2024-10-09 00:17

What a coincidence! We also made a game about spiders building webs! Great minds think alike—it’s such a clever idea!

leo-lin 2024-10-09 00:22

The idea is so fun, moving could be improved but it's just a jam project. Good work!

barryrichter 2024-10-09 01:34

I really loved the interactive web mechanic of this game. It felt fast paced and challenging in the begining, but then growng your web out and its all about the structure you made along the way. This game was super inovative!

cliva 2024-10-09 01:37

Wow, it seems like I’m seeing such a game concept for the first time, the controls are quite convenient. The graphics are simple, but probably they fit this project perfectly. The death screen is just magnificent %)

nanamaki 2024-10-09 05:32

A really spidy spider game🕸️! I like the intersting "web designer" concept and the concise art. I tried the natural web sturcture and seemed effective. When there were more connections and directions it become hard to precisely control(walk towards certain direction). Great work as a solo jam game! Hope to see some variety in the repeat gamep play so that I may want to level up to 60 to see the mystery special class lol

erbol 2024-10-09 09:13

its interesting game. enjoyble game

tori 2024-10-09 10:15

Ho wow what a good entry, i love the concept and what you did, it work very well ! great job

motoilyuha 2024-10-09 10:50

One of the few games that has no flaws. The mechanics are original, I haven’t seen anything like it before. I had a lot of fun playing it and got hooked for a full 20 minutes. Keep up the great work! Wishing you success!

ugly-robot 2024-10-09 20:55

What a wonderful idea! Ingenious - and very engaging. I love that escaped flies destroy their section of web, so there is some 'risk' to simply creating a massive web and trying to catch everything. The silk placement was thoroughly enjoyable, and although there were some tiny navigation bugs (as all jam games have - also, pun unintended lol) - this is one of my favorite entries, so innovative. Excellent work!

andreia 2024-10-10 00:43

Making the web feels extremely cool! I don't think I've ever played anything like this? I feel you could use this even to make art ahah It was really fun. The telegraphing for where bugs will appears is super helpful. This is a really great game and quite polished!

spacecadet 2024-10-10 19:43

Really well implemented and entertaining small game. Shooting the webs and catching the flies felt really satisfying. I ended up being stuck in the web pretty often but I guess that is inevitable if you just keep shooting mindlessly to any direction the flies appear. Overall very nice game :)

robin-schmitz 2024-10-13 11:47

Just made it to being a level 8 spider.

2024-10-13_13h09_11.png

I enjoyed building my web to catch those little flies. The mechanic of creating new paths to conquer more of the screen was fun. I sometimes struggled to climb onto the correct string, when the paths where tending towards being parallel. And I think I would be a more successful spider, if those flies had a tiny bit bigger hitbox. They "dodged" my web so many times :D It was really fun :)

@risminator I see you enjoy spider games ;)

dianavi 2024-10-17 21:20

Hard to play for me, but it's an original concept ! you should continue to develop this game after the jam ^^

lyssa 2024-10-24 04:36

This was so unique? I loved playing it once I figured out really what I was supposed to be doing. The menu on the side is admittedly a little intimidating when I first looked at it and really I didn't pay too much attention to it as I went along and found a lot of my fun making the web and trying to navigate my way to the flies before the flew away. A little hell of my own creation but it was stupid fun to do. really lent the simple graphics well too
