Hey, I really like this concept, in my ideal version it would involve controlling the little to operate different mechanisms to suit the situation the main body is in in order to overcome obstacles. Really good job tho!

memz 2024-10-08 13:59

The game was a bit confusing to get into and I wound up having to scroll down the page to read the instructions. All together, I like the innovation of not having direct control, but it seemed to run very poorly. The audio was pleasant, and the art was interesting. The theme seems to have been added into the idea part way through, but it does take it into account with visuals.

rincat 2024-10-08 14:08

I tried for a while, but I still don't understand how the game works

wegpast 2024-10-08 14:11

@frostbeak We ran out of time (as usual...) but in the full game design you had 2 more creature type and had to use theme to make the host creature move. The host would arrive in different spot, changing the way it inner body function and changing thing like path way, locked interactive area and so on. And the final goal was to make the host creature crawl out of its cave (it was in a cave in earlier design) to desolated world. It would then Scream and spring and life would came back to this world. But time running by and some technical difficulties (like Git given up on us...) forced us to drastically decrease the scope :slight_frown:

@memz We focused on the "creatures" part more than on the "tiny" part of theme. To make something look like a creature it had to move on its own. So you can only "influence" them, not fully control them. Tiny is just a relative size, so we added those creature into another one that is a frog-sized weird creature :)

Thanks for playing !

@rincat yes there a lack of proper organic tutorial and some little fix/tweaks are needed

mikeandtherest 2024-10-08 14:34

Nice game, but it was very tricky to get the gist of it, and at the beginning it was a bit frustrating even, since I did not know what to do. Had to read the instructions twice. Otherwise, nice sounds, very interesting graphics and overall a cool experience ;)

Is there a way to win? I kinda understood what does what and how to spawn certain kinds of things, I checked with the cheat sheet after a while and I already knew most of the stuff.

But the most important information is missing: how to assign workers? There are Minions right on top of the Walking thing and it says 0 workers. Also with all those things so close to one another I don't know how the working thing .. well .. works. xD

It's not about a tutorial but more about what inputs are even possible and feedback on what is happening. I need to see what my minions are doing. I need to see how much lifetime they have left. I moved them around for a while, which was already tedious beacuse clicks are not recognized every time (is there a cooldown on the bell?) and then they just disappeared. :/

This game needs so much more feedback on what's happening. Those numbers aren't a replacement for proper feedback. There has to be a Sound + Visual Effect when someone starts working, and a SFX+VFX when someone stops working and a SFX+VFX when someone dies or converts or spawns. Without proper feedback it is impossible to understand the game, even if you would provide a proper ingame tutorial.

It was very tricky to get the gist of it but design wise it's super good and unique! I can't get over how awesome that "turtle?" is.

guiik 2024-10-09 11:21

I tried for a while but I could not figure out how to tell your elemental creatures to go where you want, it looks like they ignore me ^^ Cool art though !

wegpast 2024-10-09 21:36

@mikeandtherest we tried our best to compensate our lack of organic tutorial (that we had in mind but because of lack of time we didn't add) by a good amount of instructions. But yeah, it is not the easiest game to learn to play... @yeouseong Bernard, the tiny ancient god turtle-frog-like thanks you ! @guiik They do not ignore you but are really not compliant :p By the way, we found out there was a big bug that were repulsing part of the creatures and fixed it last night (it was a too big mistake to not be fixed...) it may be easier now :)

juanrod707 2024-10-10 02:24

Very interesting concept, I love the idea of micromanaging a giant beast/machine inner workings. I think the game is a bit confusing or some feedback is missing. Either way, I'd love to see this concept explored further. Great job!

deadjolly 2024-10-10 03:32

Game felt confusing but I eventually figured out how to lead the little guys around a bit. Still couldn't really tell how to accomplish the objectives though. The music was super chill, I really enjoyed it. The bell sounds almost worked, but the high pitched one got a little grating. Pretty cool art, the animations were well done and the zoom out effect was super neat! Nice job!

icxon 2024-10-10 06:00

I think the game would benefit from having some direct instructions, e.g. bring 5 rock guys here, keep 3 tree elementals here for 15 seconds and etc. Like mini quests or timed events. Otherwise I feel like I see no progression despite things happening on the screen - numbers are changing, units are moving, elementals are spawning. I just have a hard time understanding how I am affecting it.

In general, I like the idea of waking up an ancient god from a deprivation with all the rituals and preparations. Or the idea of starting a complex engine and mechanism following some cryptic and obscure instructions. So I see what you are trying to achieve here. May be I should play version 1.3. I downloaded 1.1 but it had index.html which I can not run on windows.

On my second try after I read all the instructions I was trying to keep rock elementals in tree spawning zone and tree elementals in water spawning zone but it did not help too.

Here is my first playtest:

godawakener.png Was determined to win since the art and music really sucked me in. I think the issue for me was that the forest elementals would go to their tomb and transform into rock at a far greater rate than the other elementals, and the rock elementals took so long responding to my pings that by the time I get enough at the rock pool all my forest elementals were gone. This made it extremely challenging to have enough of all 3 in the right places at the right time. I wish they would listen to me haha! Overall you guys have a very unique concept with a really strong theme, great work!

wegpast 2024-10-10 21:08

@icxon I added a windows build of the v1.1 on Itch.io :) And I totally agree with you for the more organic tutorial part. That was what we had in mind first but didn't have time to implement it :/

@rosypenguin Well done ! Thanks for playing :)

larryseinfeld 2024-10-11 00:00

Yes! This is what I've been looking for in this jam! This is weird, otherworldly stuff, and I love it!

I see now that the game's mechanics and how everything works is detailed in the game description, but honestly I had fun experimenting and discovering the behaviour of everything. It was really fun getting a swarm of each critter to the center to awaken the god!

Love the art, love the music and vibes and enjoyed the heck out of playing to the end! Great job!

cliff-coffee 2024-10-11 00:12

Interesting gameplay that reminds me of Reus. Trying to herd the elementals is hard when they keep turning back and not listening, getting hung up on pathing perhaps. I lost my patience with them after a while and came back to it after a break - then got frustrated with them again.

arthur-sauer 2024-10-11 07:58

i like it! i had trouble with my AZERTY keyboard at first but i think i still managed to play! good job it was cool :o

nazariglez 2024-10-11 09:52

I really liked the concept of guiding elementals to wake the ancient god! The pixel art and music were great and set a nice atmosphere. Controlling the elementals was a bit tricky since they didn’t always cooperate, but overall, it was fun. Gj!

exa 2024-10-12 11:05

Omg so beautiful!!

wegpast 2024-10-12 15:00

@larryseinfeld, @exa Haha, glad you liked it !

@cliff-coffee They are **Tiny Creatures**, they do not behave always like you want :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@arthur-sauer Thanks for playing ! But it strange for your keyboard, we too are using AZERTY keyboard and no problem through the Jam  I'll look into it.

@nazariglez Thanks ! We wanted to add more "lore" pieces like elementals creatures noises, more (and better) animations for the host creature and so on, but we didn't manage our time well and had to cut a lot of things off. It's so frustrating :sob:

andriana-mantidfly 2024-10-13 05:15

I really liked the graphics and the atmosphere of the game

eugene-b 2024-10-13 12:59

game looks very pleasant and deep in terms of design. Well done!

bigwhiteshogun 2024-10-14 17:06

Sadly something wrong is happening with the game on my PC. I can't play in fullscreen mode because of massive frame drop, also when I zoom in the creatures stop responding to my pings, especially plant ones. They always just run towards the tree and despawn spawningi even more earth elementals. I try it later on my laptop and see if that changes anything. So far though I love the art and the music, combined together they game this really odd worldly atmosphere I really dig!

wegpast 2024-10-14 19:07

@bigwhiteshogun thanks for giving-it a try ! That's a weird behavior you're having there on you PC. Did you test the HTML5 version or the 1.1 standalone version I've provided some times ago ?

scsdww 2024-10-15 08:44

what a frog?

mardood 2024-10-18 19:46

Lovely art! Really like the frog god thing. I might be stupid because I didn't really know what to do though!

smiley405 2024-10-22 20:04

It took me a while to figure it out the gameplay but after that I loved it. I wished there was a in-game tutorial at the beginning just to navigate around. But really a nice game concept and a beautiful pixel art.
