Soo, no game?
I love that thumbnail! Wish I could try the game
I cannot run the game. Did you forget to upload the assets? ``` Finished dev [optimized + debuginfo] target(s) in 0.30s Running `target/debug/comfy_rust` LOGGER: env_logger thread 'main' panicked at src/aseprite_loader.rs:178:38: called `Result::unwrap()` on an `Err` value: Os { code: 2, kind: NotFound, message: "No such file or directory" } note: run with `RUST_BACKTRACE=1` environment variable to display a backtrace ```
Wish I could play the game, love the pixel art
do we have to build this game ourselves?
I guess you forgot to add automated target/atlas.json file generation. I've built the project but don't know what join_aseprite_jsons.py expects as its input to produce needed intermediate files. Just attach a build :)
Cool graphics (from what I can see)! I'm commenting to put a reminder for when it'll be available :p
@bitluderrb7804fr Trust me, you don't :)
@rolferm Yeah I have a very hacky solution for exporting files from aseprite to Rust. Wanted to figure out how to embed the resources into the binary and distribute it that way. I think I'll just take the dirty route for now, and commit the atlas directly to the repo XD
@xahon You're correct!
@rolferm @xahon There we go, the game should be runnable via cargo run now!
@bitluderrb7804fr @pe7e @worldofmush @weirdo-studios @locksmitharmy @cagibi I'll let you guys know once I've created a binary you can download and executed. I am pretty new to Rust, so don't know how long i'll take :/
Got it to work on my mac! Really spot on the theme! Also I feel very safe knowing its written in Rust.
@rolferm Indeed, one should only contact the infernal in a memory safe manner!
@bitluderrb7804fr @pe7e @worldofmush @weirdo-studios @locksmitharmy @cagibi Windows and Linux binaries should be ready now :)
Yay, I won!
The scene is completely static, I thought it was a splash screen at first x)
I only deduced one good item (and had a pretty good guess for the second one), so I had to look at the magnificent source code to look up the solution. That's not cheating, that's investigation!
@cagibi Now that's some out of the box thinking! :D Yeah the start screen is all there is sadly.
There's hint in the recipe book, but you'll have to deal with my terrible hand writing and native language.
I *summoned* google translate to read the recipe book, once I did that I was able to win!
Ahhh, rust. Nothing like waiting 6 minutes for a game to compile before playing it :P.
The ending got a chuckle out of me (I think the panic on exit was intentional?). I liked the visuals, and though I don't know what language the recipe was in, it didn't take me too many guesses to pick out the important words. It could use some sound!
@aivaxela Truly the most satanic of solutions!
@henk Yeah, I felt I too would panic if demon suddenly appeared accompanied by very poor particle effects. Sounds was on the to-do, but I spent most of the time trying to parse Aseprite JSON files XD
Couldn't figure out how to summon, so I checked the comments here for hints. Well, I don't know the language of the instructions (seems like it was upside down and a language I know not of), and I was stuck. So instead of trial-and-error, I just followed one of the suggestions in the comments and perused the source code. I'm sorry for basically cheating, but I could not figure it out otherwise. I think the game itself could use more cool hints to make it more interesting and more mysterious instead of being stuck. Good work!
I couldn't figure out the combination through the game. You mentioned the solution is hinted at in the book, but I don't know the language it's written in. In the end I did what others here did and looked at the source code to find the solution.
It is good to know that unlike my game, this game is 100% memory safe.
This was neat! I liked the art and the ideas that went into this. My feedback is similar to other comments - non-english made it tough to understand the recipe book, so if there was something in game to tell players what language it was in would help us use translation tools.
Hm, I definitely misinterpreted the book. But interesting, having a look into the source code to find the solution :)
oh NO I SUMMO)NED IT
This was wild. I liked the art a lot. I had a good laugh at the slapdash 'NO :(' and the game just closing to desktop on victory. Fun submission, good luck for future jams!
The art is so good, the "NO :(" is amazing, and what is there works as intended. It may not be a full complete game but what is here is a very promising start. I'll have to check out your other jam entries when the scoring period is over.
I enjoyed the little recipe book. I like to think I figured it out, but it was pretty puzzling at first!
