Very cool game! I loved the sound effects!

pupirka 2024-04-15 08:16

I've killed 4 sheeps today, ha-ha-ha

Well, that escalated quickly  Loved the mood of this entry! Great work with the sound effects and visuals!

Gameplaywise: Its very good that you let the player skip the walk back to the sacrificial altar! Only critique I have is that jumping feels a bit too "slippy" and that solid and not solid ground are a bit hard to differentiate. Great job!

Game is great! It's atmoshperic and creepy. I liked the sound design and skyboxes =) Also it is fully completed, so congratulations!

My era dawns!

I love the art of this game. Interesting progression too as you get more powers and a great quality of life feature to warp the player back to the altar until the last sacrifice. The platforming mechanics are a bit floaty and stuff, but I don't think that takes away from the experience too much. Spooky sound design too!

Nice work!

wow I love this ominious atmosphere.

showing the size of things as you get smaller going out of the cave is a clever move that builds the mood really well.

the sacrifice scene with this atmosphere makes me feel a bit like in Carrion with a kinda Fear and Hunger vibe.

I got like 3 sheep, cant find the next one.

I really loved the ominous atmosphere of the cave part and the slight moving of the screen, it was very creepy! I also had a funny moment when I accidentally dropped one of the people next to the monster and he just lied there waiting for me to pick him up again :D

I loved the mood of this game and highly appreciated how you prevented backtracking.

Spoiler: I was expecting the player character would somehow be punished for his Faustian crimes against the innocent.

Cool vibes, the different areas being either zoomed in or out gave sort of a cinematic vibe. Also glad I didn't have to bring my sacrifice all the way back every time lol. Like the art too

Just a heads up, but I think the "play in browser now" link at the top of the page is pointing to the wrong game.

The visuals here were pretty well done, and I think there's something mildly terrifying about the little red priest floating across the gap to the little green priest (although I suppose in this case I'm playing as the terrifying thing).

benskca 2024-05-01 22:22

@henk whoops thanks for the heads up about the link! That's what I get for copying my formatting from the last jam :')

The game has some cool vibes, especially with the different areas being zoomed in or out, giving it a cinematic feel. I'm also relieved that I didn't have to trek back with my sacrifice every time! The art style is a definite plus as well.

Cool game, the idea of accumulating skills through rituals has potential. Good job!

freshd 2024-05-02 18:59

I felt a bit bad for the cute sheeps, but It had to be done right? ... right? :'-( ^^ The pixelart is really nice. Overall a cool entry. Well done!

lachlan-james 2024-05-03 02:22

The art style was refreshingly simple, and the palette choice really hit the spot. Props on the ambient sound design; it really set the mood just right. Plus, there was this cool sense of scale that added depth to the experience - loved the camera shift on the first climb out of the cave. I appreciated how the mechanics were gradually introduced with more sheep, keeping things interesting. And let's not forget about that sound design—had me chuckling more than a few times... loved the sheep sound. Overall, a pretty enjoyable ride.

frankiesmileshow 2024-05-03 02:27

the sheep went "baa" and that added and extra .5 to both the audio, the humor and the mood ratings imo

domenixius 2024-05-03 06:01

Really nice game you made! I really dig the mood and the sound effects great job! The controls could have been a little tighter and the pixelart looked a little blurry at times maybe fiddle with a pixel perfect camera and how you import your art? A little visual of you being teleported back would have tied the whole thing together a little more. Great narrative choice of having to walk/fly back with the last sacrifice!

kjscott 2024-05-03 08:16

Apart from a few lag spikes (might have been my computer) and getting stuck when flying, it was a neat little game to play. The audio effect for the first sacrifice was funny and I really appreciated that I didn't have to go back all the way to the start and backtrack as I got further along, you respected the players time and that was a really good thing to implement.

nardandas 2024-05-03 08:56

What a funky little game. I thought the way the pixel art "flowed" through the screen because of the filtered non-pixel perfect camera was really interesting. I enjoyed the escalation in the story. Good job!

milq 2024-05-03 09:02

The game's setting is fantastic, and the mood of this game is spectacular. The audio also immersively draws the player into the story. I was surprised by mechanics such as jumping between platforms that appeared to be walls. This isn’t a suggestion, but I would like to share that I'm not a fan of the pixel filter applied to the normal drawings; I think the original artwork is excellent and doesn't need that filter. However, this is just a personal opinion and doesn't affect my graphical rating. Otherwise, my sincerest congratulations-always producing quality titles at Ludum Dare. Great game!

Fantastic compo entry! Probably the best atmosphere in an LD game I've seen in this event.

It has some pretty nice level design, showing you early on where you'll have to go later once you unlock some upgrades. In one or two places it was a bit difficult to see which parts of the wall you could go through and which were solid, but I'd guess that's a colorblindness issue. Plus it wasn't too bad, after hitting an unexpected wall once I took a closer look and that was all I needed to notice what I was missing.

I'm torn in regards to the lack of music. On one hand, it would be great to have some nice dark ambient theme. On another, the silence made the subtle sound effects work really well for mood.

I loved that after you get the second sheep you immediately get teleported back, it cuts out a lot of time retracing the same path over and over again, and keeps you more invested in the narrative. Smart move! It felt really good when I got to the "bigger sacrifice" section, as doing them in rapid succession made me feel really... evil. And then you made the player retrace that path one last time with the final victim, which really gave me this feeling of doing the one last big action before the end. Such a simple thing, but it does enhance storytelling greatly.

I've played through it twice and I loved both times, great LD game. Well done!
