It doesn't work for me:( The game does not load after the main screen

gianni 2024-04-16 17:03

It seems nice, but honestly I didn't understand how to win, I probably don't know how to play.

jkyd 2024-04-16 17:12

@save-sloth-studios Do you see the "start running" button at all? There's been a couple ui layout issues in the mini player we're ironing out today -- I'd recommend playing in full screen :)

yoyoj 2024-04-16 18:04

Really fun, cool and the designs are great ! I LOVE IT ! A background music could enhance the game. Great job !

sstyles93 2024-04-16 18:07

The game is simple but yet sooooo cool! I love the art and animation! Having sound effects would have been great but given the complete upgrading system you created in just 2 days...I am just amazed!

Wonderful little game, I could really lose hours on it ^_^' Great job!

gabrimer 2024-04-16 21:14

Interesting idea, the game mechanics are nice. Some audio would come in nicely for the game's general mood. Nice stuff!

jkyd 2024-04-18 03:49

@sstyles93 @yoyoj @gabrimer thanks for the feedback! We ended up with about 2 hours left for audio... An executive decision was made that it would be a *much better* experience sans audio than adding the horrible sounds we were able to scrape together in that time  This style of game definitely needs some juicy sfx though, we'll add some in post LD

benjaminw 2024-04-18 05:04

Pretty fun game! With a bit more polish and time (i.e. sfx) I could see this being a really great experience. I felt like it maybe a bit too difficult to collect the moisture unless I really put my kiting cap on. Something to think about? All in all though I quite liked it :)

breadley 2024-04-18 05:12

Really enjoyed this one!

Loved all the different upgrade options available, makes it really satisfying to build out your run, and the overall gameplay was a solid take on a passive shooter.

Awesome work!

human 2024-04-18 05:15

Beautiful Original game art especially the main character animation, and UI art. Game atmosphere is also awesome with post effects. But yes audio should be great and added more to the already great mood for the game. Gameplay wise its simple. May be as a gamer I want more depth and available actions as a player.

yeouseong 2024-04-18 05:34

great art and great game! As others have said the only thing missing is definitely sfx and music. Well done!

twoe 2024-04-18 05:40

I really like the animations on the characters, very charming and fun. I also really like the upgrade system having slots so you have to pick and choose what to keep rather than something like vampire survivors where you have 5 slots and you just keep the best ones. I would say that the moisture is a bit hard to pick up in a way that is kind of frustrating, mainly because with the animation it is hard to see where your characters hitbox is for picking them up. Increasing the hitbox but decreasing the time before despawn would make it not frustrating but still hard probably. That is really my only complaint though. Otherwise, great submission!

digital-bacon 2024-04-18 06:17

Nice game. Very nice artwork. Found the game a bit tricky, but I can see it growing on me (pun not intended). Excellent work!

googlefrog 2024-04-21 15:14

A great game that got even better when I realised upgrades could be combined, then machine gunned the last few waves. I'm really impressed by the variety of upgrades and mechanics that you came up with over three days. Spores and fruiting. There isn't just an economy upgrade, but three distinct economy upgrades. The upgrade that boosts neighbours was a bold move but very satisfying, and switching upgrades around was great.

d3kryption 2024-04-22 05:31

This game offers charming art and engaging animations. The upgrade system is satisfying, allowing for strategic choices. However, the lack of audio could greatly enhance the game's atmosphere.

The game mechanics can be a bit tricky at times.

Overall, it's a fun and unique game. Nice job! :)

Please can you vote on my game too? :)

woona 2024-04-22 05:45

Great job with character design and animations! There is a variety of enemies and they all look so goofy, I love them.

Gameplay is very easy to understand: just run around from enemies and collect droplets, but the upgrade system is quite complex. I really appreciate the amount of different upgrades, all with different effects and icons.

I didn't really like that droplets disappear so quickly, but I can see that this mechanic is there to make the player attempt riskier moves.

Overall, it's a very fun game, I had a great time with it!

nightrane 2024-04-22 05:55

Loved this, I enjoyed how customizable the character was, and the gameplay was simple but super addictive and fun. Adding audio will make it even better :)

mircudx 2024-04-22 06:53

This game is wonderful! The visual style and character progression are simply delightful. One thing I would like to add is keyboard controls (the character can glitch if you aim the mouse cursor at them) and sound effects (I played dynamic music in the background ^_^). For me, this is almost a finished game; the first encounter with the orange guys was a big surprise. I managed to pass it on the fifth attempt - speed is everything=)

And yes web version don't work for me it's just black screen

Thank you, the game is wonderful. Good luck to you!

jkyd 2024-04-22 07:00

@mircudx Thanks for the feedback! We'll definitely add keyboard controls and audio into the post-jam build :)

pebkac 2024-04-22 20:12

Nice one! Just one complaint: couldn't break the game enough...

hermitgamesmiths 2024-04-22 20:12

Excellent! Probably my favorite I've played in this jam. I wish it was keyboard controls, but other than that it's fun, deep (for a jam game) and good art. Well done!

cresceda 2024-04-22 20:46

Pretty fun! Reminds me of TBoI, but apparently this is a new(?) brand of game? I like the upgrade system and the game feels polished overall :).

magnat 2024-04-22 20:47

The game is not starting for me after pushing the start button :/ (on windows and on browser)

lisek-gagatek 2024-04-22 20:54

That's a very good game. Awesome graphics and really solid and polished gameplay. I love the broad selection of items that you can buy and how you apply them to different parts of your mushroom (the item that increases it's sell value with each round is my favorite, great idea). I wish there was a sound, but of course it's Ludum Dare and not everyone has time for that. However I can see some areas for potential improvements:

The first thing is that I'm not really convinced about moisture balls disappearing over time. It seems to me that you did this to synergize with other strategies (buffing you when you collect moisture), but to me it creates a more boring pattern of gameplay. During each round you have to collect as much moisture as possible; otherwise you'll lose in a few rounds due to being under-statted. It means that you have to constantly go in circles, to end up in a spot where you last killed an enemy to collect money. And it makes gameplay more boring than it would be if the money was either just collected automatically, or stayed until the end of the round. Either that, or maybe you could try to spice it up and make it drop much further from the killed enemy, to create more situational opportunities for the player and spice up gameplay.

The second aspect is the pricing/power level of items you buy. It would be more interesting in my opinion, if there were more items that are stronger, but cost much more. Right now it starts to feel underwhelming when you have items in all slots and are limited in buying by slots, not by items price. It's just not that satisfying to buy the slot for 60 to then place item worth 20 in there.

Anyway, the game is great, very good job and you guys can be proud of yourself!

oscar-berry 2024-04-22 23:01

I have the same problem as @lisek-gagatek. Nothing happens after I press the start button. The game looks cool ;(

jkyd 2024-04-23 00:29

@lisek-gagatek Wow thanks, this is exactly the kind of feedback we were hoping for! You bring up a lot of good points, it definitely isn't interesting to continuously run in circles to quickly pick up moisture before it evaporates -- I really like your idea of launching it in a random direction away from the killed enemy. That, or adding a time limit for each level with infinite enemy spawns and every droplet is collected automatically.

I didn't think about the item/slot costs like that before, but yeah, that's a very good point. I wonder if it'd be a good idea to prevent these higher-cost/power items from showing up in the shop before you have like 3 slots unlocked in a specific body part. Or if it'd be more interesting to see something you can't afford/takes up a potentially affordable item option at the beginning of a run, but gives you something to build towards.

Thanks again for the comment, you gave us a bunch of things to think about!

jkyd 2024-04-23 00:31

@cresceda I was definitely inspired by TBoI's art style for the baddies :)

suvi 2024-04-23 01:07

@magnat That's unfortunate. Is there anything strange about your setup? Which browser are you using?

@oscar-berry Both web and windows? Which browser are you using?

If the problem turns out to be mouse click capture, I can map the button to a keyboard key (maybe space).

suvi 2024-04-23 01:30

@lisek-gagatek Thanks for the feedback! That's a good point about the droplets. We don't have data to back this up, but I suspect that this sort of economic falling behind is a common root cause for losing a run in a round or two -- since the enemies do get better(health/movement speed/damage) with each round. We tried to mitigate this with the antler (pickup range increase) and humidifier (increase to the droplet lifespan) items, but there's no guarantee that you'll be offered either in an early shop.

We'll definitely experiment with more broken/exotic items being expensive as well as the idea of item tiers/luck for the post Jam version. There's also a very good chance that some of the existing strong items will become much more expensive.

magnat 2024-04-23 13:07

@suvi Nothing special, AMD Radeon 6950 XT with an intel 13600k, and I tried edge, brave and on windows directly.

suvi 2024-04-24 19:40

@Magnat That's so strange, I couldn't replicate this on any of those browsers on my end. Would you be able to post a screenshot of the browser dev console? Have you had this issue with other Unity games?

Sorry for all the questions -- I've been trying to track down a similar (possibly same) bug for a while in one of our other games. I suspect it's an issue with code I reuse accross projects, but I havent figured out the eldritch incantation needed to summon it yet!

magnat 2024-04-25 15:29

@suvi Sure, here a screenshot of it, note that no new message appeared after I clicked on the "start running" button

mycell.png

suvi 2024-04-25 21:03

@magnat I think that rules out graphics card issues, as it seems that the webgl context was created (the post processing errors are not relevant as the game doesn't use those features). I also think this rules out a game logic exception as we'd see that logged as an error.

I wonder if this is a caching issue, maybe the browser is holding on to an old resource file or something along those lines. Do you have the same problem if you try to play the game in private browsing/incognito?

Is your browser version outdated by any chance?

magnat 2024-04-25 21:26

@suvi I don't think it has anything to do with my browser since it have the same exact problem using the windows executable :/

I think your best shot to debug this would be to run the game in debug on a computer with the same problem as me. If you want me to do this I could give you my discord :)

suvi 2024-04-26 02:40

@magnat Yeah I'm interested -- my discord is: _suvius
