Hey friend! Got the game downloaded, but the start button isn't working for me, exit button works fine though! (Don't worry, not gonna review bomb you because of a bug, just wanted to let you know!)

secretjuice 2024-04-15 22:47

Whoops, I'm seeing the same thing. I hope you'll be able to get it to work!

drgcandle 2024-04-16 03:54

Mind blown, you single-handedly achieved so much – that's just unreal, my friend!

koro-games 2024-04-16 06:58

Love the play on words, cause i like puns :)

torte478 2024-04-16 17:12

I've got same situation with "Start" button =(

ugly-robot 2024-04-17 19:22

Arg - same, unable to get past the start menu. 'exit game' works, just not 'start game'

nwoknu 2024-04-20 08:24

@ugly-robot @torte478 @koro-games @secretjuice @sicosiber @drgcandle Hey everyone, sorry I didn't reply for so long The "Start Game" not working is now fixed, along with another game breaking bug Though there is still a soft lock when being hit while the summoning animation is playing, but it feels like this would be too much post-editing for the jam Download links remain the same

Nice core mechanic. It's like a much more interesting version of the quick math games my kid gets at school.

It can actually get really stressful when the numbers get really large but the digits available to you are all small.

A really awesome extension to the concept would be the ability to add symbols to the sum, that way you could do multiplication, division, subtraction as well!

daandruff 2024-04-21 09:05

I sighed when I first started the game, but when I actually started playing, it was quite fun even though the premise was a bit bland. Good job on the implementation. The boss did really stress me out with that double number at the end :D

chifu 2024-04-21 10:26

quite fun

Good educational game!

monika 2024-04-26 16:33

Quite fun for what it is. I enjoyed it.

The font for the numbers was a little hard to read, and the light source was in a weird position, so the shadows for the numbers relative to the actual numbers was wildly different based on their positions on the screen. This made it harder to play but in not a meaningful way (like, for example, more difficult math problems would have been). That kind of stuff can be hard to fix in a jam setting, so it's understandable, but would be something to fix if you go back to it.

Quite a fun educational game, I wasn't really expecting that. The graphics also carry some of that old educactional math games style, to some extent. And it can get quite challenging and stressful when numbers hugher than 15 start appearing. Overall, great game!

krummsakura 2024-04-26 19:08

The game captures the feeling of educational games perfectly which is nice to experience for the sake of the good old days. There was no sound which could be a problem on my side but still I was able to hear sound effects and even music in my head :) Good job!

Nice graphics, gameplay works as intended. This could certainly have done with audio! All in all, nice entry, especially with the story-screens mixed in between.

aly-name 2024-05-01 05:11

Cute graphics and challenging game. Although it feels like the game flow is a little short, it's still a cool entry :D

freshd 2024-05-01 17:15

Fun game ^^ Good job!

mathstr0fficial 2024-05-01 22:09

A fun concept, and a good execution on that concept. Requires some quick thinking to get everything, but it's not unreasonably difficult which is nice. I would have appreciated a few more enemies with a gimmick like the double number, but time constraints being what they are I think this worked fine. The animations of all the characters were also excellent, and really added a nice energy to the whole thing. All around great work!

nwoknu 2024-05-02 08:22

@mathstr0fficial I would have SO liked to add additional opponents, I even had 1 opponent and a 2nd phase for the final boss planned :D And if I used my time better (and ate better, as to not become very tired on day 1 ), it may haven even worked out to add them...

But I take it as a learning experience to make more of the good stuff next time :D

In case you want to know what I had planned:

The new opponent would have been a kind of "know-it-all" who would for his ultimate attack start talking so much that it would confuse you/make you lose your focus, visualized as your numbers moving around instead of staying in place

My plans for the final boss involved much more "spectacle":

When you hit them for the last time, they would quickly take off their cloak and reveal their true power: "Multiply by Zero", which would have countered your last attack and started the 2nd phase (you can actually partly see the "x0" on their chest during the fight, because the cloak clips through it ^^')

Though I didn't quite know if 2nd phase was just a continuation of the double numbers or even more (which would probably have been too much) while they nullified the damage you would have dealt (at least visibly, in the background they would still have the hitpoint system as normal)

After their hidden health going to 0, you would have added yourself/"your own value" for a final attack, which they didn't expect and were too late to react (or maybe you could see their mouth turn into a grin, accepting their defeat to something so outside the box ^^)

I wonder how people would have reacted to that "over-the-top anime style believe in yourself" nonsense at the end but I certainly would have loved making it :D

But that would have likely taken me many additional hours as well ^^' (though in hindsight could have been possible if I went to Jam instead of Compo )

empyreans 2024-05-02 09:22

Nice little game, I didn't get the opportunity to summon more powerful allies tho so it was ghost-only run, but I managed to beat the game. Well done! ld55_2VkzQhDr9A.png

nwoknu 2024-05-02 09:36

@empyreans I think you might have posted this in the wrong game ^^ This here doesn't have any ghosts, only numbers :D

empyreans 2024-05-02 11:31

@nwoknu Ohhh I apologize, I downloaded too many games xD that one is called the Old Summoner lol.

Making amends, I did play your game and completed it ^_^ though I do suck at quick math xD

Art was nice. I don't think there was a sound? At least in browser version I didn't hear any.

Sometimes numbers that flew into you I could not click on because of the numbers you select, maybe your opponent should have been the one you click on to avoid overlap.

Great job on the game!
