Didn't quite get the functionality of picking her up with your mouse. Broke the game right the first second.

The music - cool, I love jazz.

Nice ideea!

ynnon 2023-10-03 07:13

The overall attitude is quite good, but mechanic with dragging Montana is a bit broken with high mouse dpi (she'll just fly away from the whole map :D), music is pleasant. Also it's not clear what to do and where to go, only 1st bottle can be picked up (the 2nd i found wasn't pickable, i didn't find rest of them)

alexandru-barbanoua 2023-10-03 07:55

I like the graphics but I couldn't get very far but I like the idea and it's quite interesting

Website, animation, graphics - everything is excellent. The intro is too long, the map is empty, there is zero gameplay, the coder ate shit.

kairoseyoshi 2023-10-04 08:48

The concept and graphics was fine but the left - click is broken and cut scenes could have been faster

marcus-otterstrom 2023-10-04 22:37

Really impressed that you had time to make cutscenes, nice work! I accidentally won the game in a few seconds the first time I played because of the high DPI on my mouse, so I basically just teleported to the end. I think the idea with picking her up and move her over lava is good, but right now there was never a reason to not pick her up, perhaps there could have been a limit for how long or far you could drag her. Or maybe there could have been a speed limit to the mouse movement, to encourage WASD movement. Graphics & audio are great :) Great job on your first entry!

The concept here is super cool and interesting, and I love how chill Monata is with everything happening around her. She's so laid back!

I have to say, the use of mixels here really bothered me here for some reason :sob: I know pixel-perfection can be really really hard to achieve on engines that weren't designed with it in mind, but a good piece of advice I have is to basically try and keep all on-screen assets that use pixel art at the same (or nearly the same) pixel size, to simulate pixel-perfection.

I also found a bug (that it seems like some other people found as well) where clicking her sent her flying out of bounds, I ended up having to reset pretty early on! I also think having your mechanics be more clear would also be very helpful. The first time I found the lava, I thought it was a dead end, so I turned around and went exploring elsewhere. The only reason I knew to click was because I read it in the description! Another good piece of advice I have is to make sure your controls and mechanics are explained in-game, because the player shouldn't need any supplemental material (like a store page or read me file) to play it (unless it happens to be a selling point of the game, which is a rare case and is usually reserved for puzzle or mystery games).

Finally, I wonder what the reasoning was behind not having her be centered in the screen during gameplay. It makes sense that she would stray from the center of the screen when you get close to the edges of the map, as to not show a bunch of black void space, but it really threw me off during free movement seeing her tucked so far away in the side!

This game is a great start, though. You have a lot of great ideas-- they just need to be workshopped a bit!

Thanks for submitting the game to the stream! If you wanted to watch it again in the future heres the vod timestamped to your game

I love this game, it's simply so cute

sisuisa 2023-10-05 17:35

The cutscenes and animations really set the tone, and I like the whole idea and concept of the game. For example the fountain area in the map. The contrast between the lava and the lush green makes it pop.

But it was pretty hard to explore as the movement was very fast when I picked her up. I did get to the end and it was very nice that there was also a cutscene. I can see if there was more time and you keep working on the game it has a lot of potential, it feels very fresh and imaginative.

Love games with cut scenes especially during a jam! They could have been paced a bit better so that I don't think i'm supposed to click through them. I didn't really understand that i was supposed to click on the character and that this was more than a jump but would actually grab and drag them across the map. Once I did it was a bit chaotic and you can beat the game in less than a second lol. I think the speed of the dragging could come way down and there should be a limit to how far - maybe even lock the screen whenever you grab the character so you are bound within that space? I also didn't get too much of the theme from your entry. But i love the artwork and tone, with some sharpening and refinement there's good style there too! Great jam team!

jamesw 2023-10-06 17:47

The cut scenes are really nice! Had the issues with other players that left click to lift sometimes go outside the map, and it's hard to return. I feel like the control part could be improved a lot. But overall a nice game!

donut-team 2023-10-06 17:50

Animation, art, music and sounds are all on point! I tried picking her up and she went flying so I can't really play the game, but the concept is very cool!

laserpanzerwal 2023-10-06 18:04

Ye I don't know... I want to like it but there's so much going on. Pixel scale not matching, the Character flies right out of bounds when clicking and it's not clear what to actually do and why. The music is pretty dominant and the animations lack frames. It looks like shes dancing through the lava. Also, du to the clicking bug, the game isnt really playable. This may become a good game after a workover though, so maybe give it some more time?

javid-ladhani 2023-10-06 18:29

I am not sure what is happening. I picked Montata up and she flew over the map

knightgames 2023-10-07 13:17

I liked the graphics, even the health bar was very well made. I think a few more mechanics can be added to make the gameplay feel smoother. Good game overall, well done!

polina-fl 2023-10-07 17:12

interesting

dzejpi 2023-10-09 05:27

I loved the cutscenes, and the graphics, very lovely! That said, I think the grabbing mechanic should detect walls, because it seems that I was simply able to pick her up and just drag her to the end right away. Otherwise very well done!

boddiul 2023-10-10 22:13

Cool innovative mechanics. It's a pity there are bugs associated with it, but I managed to get the hang of it on the second try and complete the game. Great music and cute visuals.

Despite the fact that you've come up with a unique mechanic, it became too overpowered. Essentially, it negates the need for movement using WASD, and the character can just be dragged across the entire level. If it's some special ability, you might want to think about limiting its utilization.

But it's not necessary, even as it is, dragging the character through the level, trying not to drop him into the lava, is fun

volkolak 2023-10-11 19:36

Nice cursor :) The mechanics of interaction with the object are not entirely clear. The music is interesting!

digital-bacon 2023-10-12 11:05

Interesting game. Like the animation at the beginning, and the use of an animated custom cursor. Decent graphics and nice music. Controls are a bit mushy, and using the cursor on Monata just sent her flying into an empty area. Good effort.

mr-bluecap 2023-10-12 11:17

I like the idea you came up with. The art and music were nice, and blended together quite nicely. The cutscenes were a great touch as well. I can see the goal of the dragging mechanic, but unfortunately it didn't work as intended. I tried to use it and got lost, and then I ended up dragging myself around the level randomly until I hit another cutscene. Dialling down the sensitivity and adding a timer or limit to the dragging ability would help make it more usable and allow for some fun level design. But a great effort none-the-less!

christian-witt-martin 2023-10-12 19:18

Congratulations on participating in your first game jam! I think there were some cool elements to your project. Ultimately I think a few things hampered your game: lack of constraints, high mouse sensitivity, no cooldown on lift mechanic rendering it overpowered, no penalty from dying/taking damage, no on map indicator of direction or goal (ending cutscene sort of came out of nowhere imo). As is, it is more of an "experience" than a game, but good work nonetheless.

thyoi 2023-10-15 23:02

Very interesting game. Pixel art is simple but it's very expressive. good job!

kazuma 2023-10-17 20:08

Very interesting game, nice game mechanics

lincolnsalles 2023-10-19 03:45

One thing is that the same color as the floor is on the wall, so it confuses, it doesn't create contrast. The wall should be a different color than the floor. The second bottle cannot be collected. I couldn't use the mouse arrow for anything and I didn't understand what it was for. Some parts can only be advanced by entering the lava, which led to my death not long after

alchemic 2023-10-21 20:11

I really wanted to like this game because of the fantastic artwork, but honestly the gameplay is pretty rough...

As already suggested, the cursor dragging mechanic needs to be fixed, and should probably lock the screen while dragging and make it limited in some way. The level design is also a bit too sprawling and maze-like, condensing it would help a lot. I like the fountain area but I missed it entirely, I only know about it because I saw someone else play.

I can tell y'all put in the effort! I'll be looking forward to what you create next time!
