Such a cool idea, absolutely love it
That darn bird! Gets me every time! Does he only go after the smallest?
Love the art style and the play on the theme, very cleaver. I did find it a bit confusing which shells I can and can't fit into. I didn't find a single shell I could fit so I kind of just tried to kill stuff and eat hamburgers before I got picked up by the seagull lol Still very fun though
I love the retro-style graphics, and the gameplay and movement is very fun! I played this game longer than most. My only real complaint is that there are balance issues. If you wail on a crab for a minute and get a bat, it's quite strong and you can take out a crab with a sword, and after that you can pretty much wipe the field and just have to care about keeping a shell on your back. A neat step forward for this game would maybe be a Katamari Damacy style affair as you grow bigger.
So fun! Very tight design and concept. Good upgrade mechanic. Love the low res ps1 graphics. I didn't encounter the bird though!
This is such a cool take on the theme for this jam, who would have thought of a crab shell for space?! It's so unique and refined I absolutely love this! The only thing I would suggest is making the game more difficult in some way, it's really easy since all you have to do is find a crab with a sword or baseball bat and kill it while dodging and then you immediately kill everything else with no real challenge, but other than that this was a really enjoyable experience!
Suuuuper fun game! I loved how low to the ground you were. Very clever alternative shells. It felt really snappy, and the visuals were cute af as well. I really love this theme. Hermit crabs as a use of limited space is a fun twist on the theme, and I could definitely see this concept expanded, especially in a multiplayer setting, with some humans and lots of bots. Plus many more weapons. That would be a sick party game.
Some problems with game balance: I was never able to upgrade shells. I assume it's the red bar on the top that makes you get bigger? But I never passed level 1 before a bird grabbed me, which felt random. Also, it took me forever to kill my first hermit crab, as the default punch with no weapon is really weak, and I had to really focus in on one crab to get their weapon, which the game didn't tell me I should be doing.
Overall, fun, unique, and fast paced. Some problems with balance and making game systems clear, but those are p easy to fix up in a post jam setting. I'll be watching this one!
Really fun game! But... i could never find a level 2 shell always just 3 and 1 so i always die pretty mutch at the beggining.
NICE! Love it, can you make a Multiplayer version out of it? Would be great!
Love the art style, the concept and controls. Pretty fun overall.
Minor issue I had is regarding to shells. Sometimes it seemed impossible to find a shell that would fit me. I don't know if there is an auto spawn in place for a new fitting shell or if you have to kill enemies till you find one. Either way, maybe some form of indicator or a highlight would be good to showcase where/which enemy has the correct shell size?
@milan8890 the same problem
i like this battle system
Nice work. Good design, audio and excellent gameplay. You can take a katana to steal burgers and shells from others crabs 🤯
Can you share the source code please?
very cute, very funny humor. Maybe a little frustrating. The attack can be improved!
As soon as it clicked how to play it was really fun! The mouse turning felt a little too high and it was sometimes hard to find the next shell in the progression. Once you get past the first few bits and get a weapon you felt like a beast!
Easily one of the best games of Ludum Dare. Incredible 3D-art, I'm amazed how someone manages to create a game this good just in a few days. The different shell variations were so funny, also crabs were cute even though they 100% performed hardcore cannibalism
its really nice work! I never thought that being hermit crab would be so much fun. And this little world... i love it! everything is on point, good job)
Incredible. Easily my favourite so far!
Really fun game! and I love the graphic style :)
Great idea! I only got problem with finding the right shell to which I fit. Maybe I would appreciate if those big crabs were stronger, because even at low level, you have no problem with killing every crab and a lot of shells are left all over the place and it will become a bit messy. But it was fun!
Nice job! I love the bird thing, when you are low on HP (or some random), you can be eaten by a bird. On feedback part, I would change the camera to be more like a 3d FPS, because it's not clear what is behind the camera. Also decrease difficulty (at least a the start)
Adding more. Maybe, as an option to add battle royal. Or maybe it's added I didn't noticed it, because the difficulty
fun concept, i liked how it felt like a .IO type of game.
Its awesome, very fun experience! I like that retro graphics
Very unique idea, and a good one at that. I found myself running around trying to get into any shell I saw only to be told it wouldn't fit. Displaying my current shell size would be helpful so I know what I need to look for. Loved the graphics and the polish on this one.
Amazing game! Hectic and exciting! Very nice environments too. Such a concentrated experience, a perfect 5-minute game! Loved it, nice to see such well done project from fellow Ukrainians)
Such a unique take on the idea, and extremely fun to play too. I love the frantic rush to find the right sized shell. I think limiting certain weapons to certain sizes might help make it more challenging, since I got a katata early and basically wiped the floor with ever other crab that came before me.
At first I was a bit confused about the mechanics (shell size and bird) but once I figured that out it was a lot of fun to play. The idea is also really unique, haven't seen that before! Great entry!! 🤩
Hoho crabe game? Yeah I like it
A great, action-packed game with cool soundtrack and graphics ^^ I wish there was something to tell you that you need to grab different shells when you grow, as I only figured that out by trial and error. Adjustments could also be made to the weapons, as you just get a katana at the start and you are set. But otherwise, I wouldnt be surprised if this gets into top 10 ^^
cool game, you have managed so much in just three days! Very cute crabs, a movie with a bird at the end surprised me. NICE JOB! But I didn't understand how to put on cool shells
Just like in the Nature documentaries.
@mrtroy No, the seagull event is activated only when the player has no shell. When you don't eat you lose health, when you eat your crab also grows in size but loses its shell. You need to find a new shell of the right size as soon as possible
@braeden Thanks for the feedback! Above each shell is written its size. In order to wear it, it must be equal to the size of your crab. The best tactic is to find the right shell in advance and look for food near it
@euix Thanks for your feedback and advice! I completely agree about the balance, I also hope to fix it. I've never played Katamari Damacy, so I'll definitely check it out
@congeesetador Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! I already have some ideas for the future to improve the balance and increase the difficulty. But now the main thing is to make sure that the main idea works
@pen-island-games Thank you very much for the extensive feedback! Interesting idea about multiplayer, I definitely need to think about it. Regarding the balance, I agree, there are quite a few problems that need to be solved. Yes, the red bar at the top is your crab's size level. When you eat burgers, your size increases. You need to find a new shell of the right size level as soon as possible. The bird event is triggered when the crab grows larger and loses its shell.
@phaix Thank you! Multiplayer is quite a challenge, but I'm thinking about it now.
@teme Thanks for the feedback and great advice! I think it would really be nice to give the player a clearer direction to find the right shell.
@andrei-gusan Thanks for the feedback! I completely agree that many improvements can be made. But I didn't quite understand what exactly you mean by 3d FPS camera. Could you give examples of games that use the solution you are talking about? Thank you again!
@recursor Thank you! The bar at the top shows the size of your crab. You need to find the same size shell. The best tactic is to predict what the next size level will be, find the right shell in advance and eat burgers without leaving it.
@mehul Thanks for the feedback! I agree with you about the weapons, I think it would really add a positive effect. I also think as an option to make something similar to the durability of weapons and shells. Thanks for the advice!
Well aren't I lucky? Great game. It was funny how in the end I couldn't see anything because of my huge barrel. The fighting was satisfying.
The graphics looks amazing ! This is so cool ! KRAB !
…oh and the game is really good.
Took me a while to understand how the bird worked, maybe because I didn't realize I lost my shell when I grew  Great entry, really enjoyed playing it!
~~Hey, I’m the host of the Ludum Dare score chasers tournament for this jam~~
~~Wanted to ask for score chasers if you were fine with me playing some gameplay of your game in the background in the waiting period / intermission. In the waiting period its going to cycle between gameplay of a bunch of different games in the background (with music from games in the jam playing as well)~~
Videos been made so wouldnt be able to include it anymore, cant delete messages on LD
funny entry
the hardest part was finding the right shell .. then I was already dying for this one. but it's funny and addicting
good work
