Very challenging to control, but reasonably entertaining to try. I managed a few deliveries before crashing into a wall in a way that got one of the thrusters stuck at a weird angle, which made further navigation basically impossible. Not sure if that was intended. The music is great.

Awesome music, which DAW do you use? Great visuals! Controls were pretty fun, but as said above, I eventually crashed and got one of the thruster stuck at angle which made me spin around. When it comes to controls, then I would recommend allowing the usage of WSAD insted of keys as well, but that's nitpicking. :)

@3lstmsinatrenchcoat, so my plan was to have a protection shield so you can actually bounce (limited times, or limited time window), then when your shield is no longer available, the ship should shatter, and then the game should reset. however... no time for such subtleties :) So yeah, now if your ship breaks you kind of die and have to hit F5 manually

@dzejpi I use Reaper as DAW, most of the tracks use Synth1 by Daichi as sound source. I created the sounds in the same project to make them mix well (and use the same key). Good point about the WASD, will add to later version!

Very chaotic controls but interesting. I like the music. I managed to wreck my vehicle and couldn't continue.

thinkofname 2023-05-01 10:57

Managed to break the ship at one point but I love the concept of this. One thing I did find difficult is when carrying the crates their weight would frequently pull you backwards overpowering the thrusters completely making it really had to control sometimes, I found it easier to just try and fling the crates into the right locations at the end  Music was great and very fitting to the to look of the game

leo-barber-dev 2023-05-01 12:19

The simulation stuff I find quite fun its just missing an easy way to restart and it would be perfect.

jclardy 2023-05-01 15:30

Music is awesome, especially just starting once you hit a key to start the game. The physics are real fun to play around with, though I did end up breaking the ship and only having one thruster direction.

The music is great! The ship can be difficult to control sometimes, but I'm sure that's the point. Good entry!

slow input, slow input, slow input... **hold up arrow 0.5 second longer** YEEEEEET.

I remember programming a lander to land on a moon in MatLab couple of years ago, that seems so similar. Wish I could use gamepad here instead of -1 to 1 instant thrust input. I also like the fragility of the ship. Reminds me of the building bridges game, where points can whistand certain amount of force applied.

At least I liked crashing with nice impact and listen to a good piece of music!

holdmeimscared 2023-05-02 01:23

The movement reminds me of a more responsive Solar Jetman! Suddenly I was a little kid again. The way the ship breaks and then "controls" afterward is pretty entertaining. It's a little weird to hit F5 to restart, but with a game jam's time limits sometimes things get sacrificed, I get it lol. The music's cool.

nimbushead 2023-05-02 02:28

The squishy ship is fun!

@thinkofname hehe, yeah I guess "hard to control" is the main gameplay element. Yes you're doing it right, I made the dropoff rects high for this specific purpose! :) (however I envisioned the boxes automatically slowing down/stabilizing and safely lowering to the ground hehe)

teadrinker 2023-05-02 13:39

Thanks for you kind words!

chesschaser 2023-05-02 13:41

Controls very difficult, but still a fun game

the-neon-shark 2023-05-02 16:42

Direct take on the theme and overall well made. The controls were a bit rough since the boxes were the same mass as my ship (which made flying sort of hilarious).

torte478 2023-05-02 16:49

I love space, so this game is great for me. I like the style and spaceship controls. Great job!

cobrajs 2023-05-02 16:53

Really cool ship design and I like the chain! Looks awesome, and the music is really good. I also like how the ship stops working when it gets a bit smashed. Well done!

rjerez192 2023-05-02 16:56

I really loved the game concept. The controls were a little bit hard, but they add to the fun trying to keep the "thing" stable. The sound effect when using SPACE key, was pretty neat, as well as the VFX of it. I would be glad to have more levels or obstacles.

la-bread 2023-05-02 19:34

it was kinda funny to see tje ship kinda fold in on itself, a checkpoint system between each delivery would've been nice though. also it feels kind of hard on the eyes for me, maybe make the background contrast with the stage a little more? like an outline or something? The audio felt like it hit a good balance on congratulating the player but not overdoing it and the ship, while slippery, feels solid to control as each collision was because of my actions.

koolruz 2023-05-02 19:38

I love seeing astroids-style ship controls in other genres, and the soft body ship felt really satisfying as it bumbled along bouncing into various obstacles :)

I'm not sure if this was an intentional choice or an issue with my monitors, but after leaving the starting area I had a really hard time seeing anything - The contrast was so low that it felt like I was flying blind, and occasionally crashing into a wall that I couldn't see. This unfortunately made it almost impossible to get past the second delivery for me :(

That said, I loved that the death state was a smashed-up ship that just couldn't fly well anymore. It was fun trying to crash-land my way into one last delivery after taking too much damage, but having an in-game acknowledgement that you should probably start over would help make it obvious that this was an intended failure state, so that players who don't read the description know what to expect - You could add a prompt along the lines of, "Looks like your ship is busted, you can press R to restart". I saw in the description that you had intended to add more here though, so this is probably feedback that you already knew. I just wanted to pass along that I really enjoyed the crumpled up ship as a failure state, and hope that it stays (in some form) if you expand on the game!

Overall, this was a very cool game! I enjoyed playing it :)

space-games 2023-05-02 19:46

I love the idea of having a physics based rocket ship! I've never seen that done before.

teadrinker 2023-05-02 22:59

@la-bread @koolruz Thanks, and yeah I agree it's way too dark, I hoped to add a scrolling star field to give a sense of depth and make the outlines more clear but ran out of time.

Also agree it feels broken when nothing happens after your ship is essentially unusable, my plan there was to have a protection shield so you can actually bounce (limited times, or limited time window), then when your shield is no longer available, the ship should shatter, and then the game should reset.

So I guess my time estimation was just too bad, my excuse is that my participation was not really planned and I joined 10 hours in. I also felt too old to stay up all night etc :)

I will try to fix this later (but after the voting is finished etc)

triangle-point 2023-05-03 01:34

This game is great really loved the music. the ship controls were hard to get the hang of but in my opinion it made it more fun and challenging great job.

wevel 2023-05-03 10:28

Love the soft body mechanics, and the idea for the game. The controls are definitly too sensitive, would love this to be tweeked a bit, and maybe with controler suport for finer control.

wighz 2023-05-03 19:23

Awesome feeling when you make that first interaction, which is when you can start playing music in webgl :D Felt really nice when that music started. I had a hard time making the box stop up on the plateau. Cool mechanic with the wire! This was not an easy game! =)

wuppos 2023-05-06 16:47

I loved the atmosphere of this game. The amazing music together with the dark neon-like colors really gave it a futuristic spacey vibe, which I loved! :D On thing I struggled with was that I could not distinguish the boxes on the foreground from the background very much, especially high up in the sky where the background is very dark. I often crashed into a wall which I could not even see. Otherwise I think the gameplay works really well and the tricky controls are fun to learn to master. I already said it, but especially the music is really good. I wish I was able to make stuff like that :O Great submission :)
