Cool idea, weel execution, but i prefer kilometer.

terry-crow 2023-05-02 02:38

It's a great idea. The graphics and music are great. It's a little addictive

greatcadet 2023-05-02 03:20

Solid submission. I really like the idea of sending out explorers and building up my map. Took a bit of time to figure everything out, but once I knew what I was doing, It was pretty fun! Great work.

mololo 2023-05-02 07:47

A pretty fun game, I liked it. The artwork and music are amazing. Good job!

cody-holt 2023-05-02 15:49

@greatcadet Thanks for playing! We know that there is a lot of information just being thrown at you that requires the player to piece it all together. We would have liked to make it more intuitive and give the player a better understanding of what to do. We really wanted the player to feel like they're building the map, so we're glad you enjoyed that.

osullivp 2023-05-02 16:21

Love the hand drawn art style and music suits the theme.

big-cow 2023-05-02 16:41

Innovative system, with really cool art and very fitting music. I like how the map gets more populated as you progress.

bloodyaugust 2023-05-02 16:44

Good entry! A tutorial in-game would've been super helpful, but the controls were intuitive enough that I figured it out eventually. Initially, I was confused and thought the items already on the map (not the capital or hub) were towns and such... But like I said, I figured it out eventually. I would've liked some of the natural formations to be named landmarks, it would've made triangulation in the beginning a little more intuitive. Very innovative, and nice gameplay loop! :tada:

cody-holt 2023-05-02 16:51

@alfredo-cossetin-neto We know that some people do prefer kilometers, so we could add in that conversion in the options maybe. @bloodyaugust We agree that it's hard to understand at the start and we could do better there. Going off of the natural formations as landmarks as well is a great idea that we would want to implement!

I like the style of the game and the concept, but I'm a bit stuck on the "hidden places" game mechanic. The UI was a little overwhelming to begin with because there was so much to look at at once, so maybe a playable intro to the game would be good.

alyd-asmar 2023-05-02 19:31

Nice take! :open_mouth: Like other people I was very confused at first, but the written tutorial sheet helped. Also it took me a looong time to understand I was not suppose to triangulate using circles like I'm used to (like, it has to be X miles away from A and Y miles away from B, so you take the intersection of the two circles etc.), but instead using the North/South indications, which is much easier (also the circles method made it impossible sometimes so congrats my dumb brain  ). I think the idea has potential but it was very hard for me to remember the instructions of the letter while measuring on the map, also remembering the name of the city after finding it, so every time I had to infer that from the new location that popped in the letter destinations... x) Apart from that, the art is really cool (loved the muscular pigeon on the tutorial  ), and the music too (left it in the background for like 30 minutes and I didn't get tired of it), and the concept is quite innovative! Congrats and thank you for the game!

cleoh 2023-05-02 22:47

I think the idea is realy cool. Building my own map? That sounds like a dream game to me! And there's a lot to like here, the visuals, the music, and the neat ideas like being able to create labels. But i can't help but feel like something's missing... I guess it's just the limitations of the jam, but most of the gameplay is adding a Y coordinate to an X coordinate, rinse and repeat, and i feel like it's too little to keep me engaged. Still, congrats!

purrseus 2023-05-02 23:07

Whoa, if you pitched the raw concept at me, I'd have said that can't be fun. Oh, was I wrong! The sense of discovery is very real, I feel like on an expedition, drawing the map while I hunt for treasure (which I am not actually doing, I know, but that's the feel I get from your game). Design, graphics, audio, everything is perfect here! And the music is super nice too, very calming and not annoying at all even after playing for almost half an hour. Very well done and very original idea!

moritz-b 2023-05-02 23:41

I feel like I don't understand this game... I get a message "X miles West of A and Y miles North of B". I measure X miles to the left of A, creating a mental vertical line there. Then I measure Y miles above B and create a horizontal mental line there. Where the two lines meet, should be the destination. I send a pidgeon there, it drops a letter into the void and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? (Since the game appears to be working for everyone else I don't want to rate it based on this...)

terryg 2023-05-03 00:02

I don't really understand how to play. It looks lik there's only one location to send letters to. That said, I love the art style you picked for this! It looks so fancy. Makes it feel like reading an old fantasy book.

cody-holt 2023-05-03 00:13

@moritz-b There is up to an 8 mile +/- variance to the directions given, so it may not be exactly where the two lines meet. It will be very close to it though. The directions say it's "about" this far away, but it's not clear to the player there is a variance or how much. It may be unnecessary to have the variance in the game at its current state (we had some bigger ideas not implemented due to time). It's possible that the locations you were measuring from weren't the correct ones as well. The "Hub" will always be in the center of the map where you send pigeons from, and the "Capital" is always the only other revealed location at the start of the game.

cody-holt 2023-05-03 00:21

@terryg The rest of the locations are hidden on the map and the player is expected to use the directions and information on the letters to find the location. A location will be revealed once a letter is sent to it. Right click to bring up a ruler to measure the distances given in the letters to find the approximate locations.

paulhocker 2023-05-03 02:02

Unfortunately I could not read the coordinates because my mouse was hiding it. I was thru pure luck deliver a couple things. I liked the idea here and I plan to download the windows version to see if it works better. thanks for making the game.

ahistyap 2023-05-03 04:17

I'm really digging the concept of the game, having to use directions to find locations. However, the problem is that some of the directions are for places that aren't open yet, so I end guessing and losing pigeons in the process, or is that how you play the game? By trial and error? Personally, I think the game would be more forgiving if the clues were based on the surrounding environment or something like that instead of just relying on directions.

smdaniels 2023-05-03 16:02

Wow! Good idea! But FindPlace mechanic needs little bit more polishing.Maybe for better navigation it is worth adding a compass with directions? Art style also feels good but i think doves and letters are out of style. Great job anyway !

dx-diar 2023-05-03 17:42

I liked good mechanics

01-aether 2023-05-03 17:45

I like the idea of delivering the letters. But as a person who is bad with directions a little cardinal directions icon at somewhere. Because I often got them mixed up.

pauldee427 2023-05-04 18:06

At first, I didn't undestand the coordinate system and to be fair the gameplay didn't really hook me in. The art and music were great though. I really liked the chill atmosphere of the game. And it's pretty unique as well. The game feels polished and it's a great entry.

pralista 2023-05-05 08:04

Love the art

sebbot 2023-05-05 20:53

pretty, but a little long with not much variance in the gameplay. overall, well done, though!

zgragselus 2023-05-05 21:55

I've enjoyed the art and the music - they did fit perfectly. The game itself was interesting and a lot about determining locations.

I managed to get close to end, but there is a bug that prevents me from finishing (at least in web version). The pigeons were ordered to correct cities (even discovered ones), but kept dying literally at the location of the city. So - all of them died.

I'm not sure why they were dying while reaching correct destination - as there is nothing about it in the notes (determining how far can each pigeon go?).

All in all, it has a chill and nice atmosphere

studiocherno 2023-05-08 06:15

Hey @tyler-walton, @sebastian-gonzales and @cody-holt

Great game you guys put together! I like the interpretation of the theme, your classic approach to delivery:)

Some feedback: - I will say that in my opinion this game could really benefit from the use of a medieval style font: https://www.dafont.com/search.php?q=medieval or https://www.1001fonts.com/search.html?search=medieval

- I also think that ESC should close the letter if you have a letter open and then bring up the options menu, which renders behind the letter anyway if there's one open. Just because natural playthrough feels like it should be esc rather than the number of the letter you currently have open...

- I feel like having the distance tool be broken down into its Adjacent side and Opposite side so you know the exact X and Y components might be useful since there is no way (that I found) to lock the measuring tool to one axis. I think the game could benefit a lot from something like that and make the caculation a bit easier

- I also think that adding temporary markers to the game is a must, because it's kind of a bit difficult to go back and check with each distance...

Overall a very beautiful game, I really like the visuals (all except the font) and the delivery of the game is great too!

-Tim

I like the idea of mail delivery by dove. So simple, but still innovative. The art is really nice!

thunnus 2023-05-17 15:55

I really LOVE this idea. I did have a location that was off screen and it'd be nice to have a marker on the two starting locations to show where I should measure from. HOWEVER, I am super impressed with the ingenuity. I think you have something here.

interpixel 2023-05-19 12:41

lovely concept, liked the small details like the names of the pigeons
