Simplistic fun game! I don't see much where the harvesting theme fits other than the vegetable head, would've loved to see a harvesting twist on this classic style of game but i'm left disappointed. Despite that, this is the longest I've played a game on this jam thus far, fun build!

Fun little game! Getting your enemy's weapon by collecting the husk is a nice idea. The particle effects were nicely done and you clearly used some creativity to make the ship graphics. :D For my taste the music is a bit repetitive and could've benefited from a bit longer sequence. Other than that a nice entry to the compo!

> ~~I would’ve used lettuce emojis for the header above, but those don’t exist apparently. How do lettuce emojis not exist?~~

Not on the website, but there's always the unicode one in backup : 🥬 =D

I really liked the "pick up enemies moveset" mechanic. Focusing on dodging to the point of bullet-hell is fun too!

Maybe allowing to let the key pressed for continuous firing would have been a great addition =) A bit more-satisfying sounds (don't know how to say it but boops instead of beeps, maybe even mouth-made to keep on with the realistic cabbage picture humor). Online leaderboards are hard to implement, but good for hooking players too

Pretty good jam entry! The mechanic was solid and controls were tight. At times, I had a hard time differentiating my character with the particles and enemies. Other than that, great work!

A fun and pretty well mad little game. I overall liked the visuals and the music. The only small complain is that stars in the background and the bullets is a bit too visual similar. But overall a good little jam game. Well done.

I liked upgrading the ship by using what you destroyed. Would have liked it where you could have more than one enemy gun. Also, I now have your song stuck in my head :)

@colisan That's not a head of lettuce, so it doesn't count. :unamused:

offdutyextractors 2023-01-16 09:45

Good game, that was surprisingly difficult. I also found that the bullets were sometimes hard to visually distinguish from the background.

I have to admit I laughed when his head turned into a lettuce. Why am I finding this game so hard? It seems so simple. Avoid the bullets and shoot the enemies. There aren't even that many bullets, but I'm really struggling to avoid them. My max score was 248. Gonna have another go though as I want to beat that.

Good stuff :8ball:

really addictive game! i love the fact that you gain powerups depending on the enemy you harvest, fast peace and nice and smooth graphics, great entry!

machwerx 2023-01-16 19:44

Fun concept! I wish the guns would upgrade after collecting multiple ones. But I could see how that would be tricky to balance.

“if it works, it works”

Ah, yes, the familiar workflow from "I'm going to implement good design" to "//HACK //TODO //FIX ME"

I had a few issues getting the game started. On WebGL, no button seemed to start the game from the title. On Windows, it seemed locked to the top-left of my desktop, instead of being windowed or maximized. Maybe I had an issue?

For the gameplay, I really enjoyed being able to upgrade my weapon by defeating an enemy--and then that upgrade served as a "life" if I got hit too much. That said, the beginning of the game is definitely tough with the pea shooter! Since most enemies shoot head-on, same as the pea-shooter, I really had to get in there and get lucky a lot. But despite that limitation, I had fun!

I think you might skip the main menu after the first time, because having to wait for it (and press through the tutorial) every time I died (which was a lot :D) was less fun!

@hawkin Thanks for the feedback! Regarding the startup issues, what browser and Windows version are you using? I'd like to see if I can figure out what's going on there. I've had issues with WebGL exports not responding to input before, but refreshing the page usually fixed that. For the Windows version, it shouldn't be locked at all; I have it set to run as a resizable window (didn't have time to add a fullscreen toggle; I'm probably gonna make a boilerplate project with this included for the next jam lol).

hawkin 2023-01-19 01:15

@alex-garbus The browser refresh probably would have done the trick. I opened your page again, and input was working. Sorry I didn't think to try that!

Windows 10 for the OS. Here's a screenshot of what I see when I launch! I will have to give it a try on my home computer (not my laptop) later.

nicly done! it got fairly hard fairly quick, but i loved the fast pace, the player feedback, the art and everything :) the music is the only thing that got on my nerves haha >_<, awesome entry!

alex-garbus 2023-01-19 17:58

@hawkin Thanks for the info! I was able to replicate the Windows issue on my end when using a single monitor (I normally use 2). It seems like I need to manually set the window position on startup or something like that. The window is still resizable, and you should be to "unlock" it just by dragging the right-hand side; definitely still inconvenient, though.

duncan-3 2023-01-20 23:37

the movement pattern of the enemies was an interesting way to make them hard to hit

cat-lab 2023-01-26 06:45

Love the sense of humour and the take on the theme! This one genuinely had me trying again and again, it's pretty easy to get addicted to.
