Good game, never thought a rhythm game could work on pico :) I'd suggest choosing a different graphic for the arrow keys though. It's too confusing, but understandable (theme)
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD52 → You're under harvest

Cute game! I like the idea of combing harvesting with a rhythm game, picking plants to the beat. Although, that's mostly just skin deep since the gameplay is just a standard rhythm game. Having to remember which plant corresponds to which direction does add a bit of a twist though. I also like the visuals; the minimal geometric background for the mountains works well. The game also has some funky beats, which is essential for a rhythm game. Overall, a cute game with some charm. Nice work!
Lovely PICO-8 entry :D I think it would've helped a lot if the direction had some sort of intuitive relationship to their corresponding items- the apples up in the tree worked really well for up, but it took a bit more to mentally map left/right to their symbols. e.g., could use up/right/down instead, and have down pull a root vegetable from the ground and forward harvest some above-ground crop. That said, I did eventually get used to it enjoyed it :)
Solid audio work. I agree with the comments above, a more 'thematic'/visual differentiation for the directions would do wonders for the game. Perhaps the watermelons could come "rolling" from the back or something like that. You have a couple of unused buttons, having a restart level would be a good thing to have.
@orion-black the rolling watermelon seems like a good idea, i will test it for a post-jam version Also the restart button is a good idea and easy to add, and it could have helped me during the jam lol Thanks for your feedback !
pico gang! nice little game, great effort to make a rhythm game in pico. it's a fun entry
Not easy at all, but very nice rhythm game once you get it! Congratulations for making this game.
Also, I just played a bit more and it seems that the score that is written next to a level is not your best score but your last score. Displaying the best score would be better I think.
Thank you @loig ! Yes i am aware of that bug, it's already fixed on my pc, it will be in the post-jam version
What the hell? How do you get a game this well polished on pico 8 for a very short game jam? 48 hours? It's like a complete arcade game! Well done!
@plexsoup thank you ! I made a generic Pico cartridge based on previous games i made, so that i already have a working engine and start experimenting early So when the jam starts, i already have a pool of object updating, particle creation, and collision detection between objects I found out that having a template that you can upgrade with every new game you make it a great way to save time and allows you to focus on the creative stuff
@mastoast That makes sense. I need to start doing that too. Thanks.
pico! <3333 solid game! ^^ I got perfect combos for all three levels \o/

not sure about the score tho, saw a lot of red..
@rickylee thank you for playing, gg for clearing the game. I uploaded a post jam version that can be download on itch where i re-designed the last level so it is not 2 times the same patterns anymore if ever you seek more challenges :eyes:
Greeeat game! Love the parallaxing. Honestly my heart does something funny ever time I see a Pico 8 game. I'm a big fan of bit trip runner too so that probably makes me biased 😉
The difficulty was insane.the trial is like hard morde of guitar hero haha
Love the little main dude
Amazing game, I'm a big fan of rhythm games so of course I loved this one too. The art and the music is good, creative interpretation of the theme and I like the title pun :)
I can't get past 63% on the first level and 30% on the second but that's because I'm really bad at rhythm games ^^ Congratulations for your game, it is very pretty and the musics are very good ;)
Awesome game! The music is really really good, some of the best I've heard in a compo game, and the rythm stabs make for really fun tracks.
If I have to say something to change I would have added one level between the difficulty of level 1 and the tutorial, to help ease players in to the specific way the game works, in particular getting a feel for the delay of the jump.
Awesome work!
This is so good, one of my favorite games from the compo.
Sweet game, always love a pico 8 entry. Great tunes. Somehow feel like the beat didn't 100% line up with when i actually need to hit the button for the window of the visual, maybe an indication of how close to the centre of the window I was, i guess you can even have difficulties for the narrowness of that beat window. Anyway Really enjoyed, great work.
Oh my, I thought it's infinite runner game but it's rhythm game instead. Might need some work to make it more intuitive but it's creative nonetheless.
I enjoyed the game! A well made rythm game with nice pico 8 graphics and a great chiptune soundtrack. The only thing I would change is the graphics of the thigns you have to harvest. Of course I knew how to harvest apples, but for the two others I wasn't sure wich one was left and wich one was right, so I kept mistaking one for the other. Great entry overall!
Even though this is simply a rythm game, it actually works with it's graphics AND good level design (hard enough to have a high replaying value). Music is really catchy!
I wish my character had a rainbow trail. Or maybe it does but my score was not high enough..
