Hey dude, your link is unfortunately broken :(

tiny-pig 2022-04-04 17:13

The link doesn't work for me. Capture.PNG

spig 2022-04-04 17:16

same problem for me with the link D=

rustywolf 2022-04-04 17:16

@tiny-pig @danc2236 Can you guys try now? Think it got reverted to draft somehow lol

rustywolf 2022-04-04 17:17

Also @spig

gotova 2022-04-04 17:27

Link works for me :) it's a fun theme and I personally love the visuals. I'm not sure if you planned on going into this old-school, almost PS1 like graphics, but it sure made me interested in the game. The game itself is a little on the slower side of things, wait for a reaction from the demon, check the book (or memorize) the solution, throw stuff into the cauldron. Nevertheless, I had fun with it. Good work!

tylerstraub 2022-04-04 17:28

I am unable to stir (assuming that stick thing is the stirring stick), so I lose every time. Not sure if I am doing something wrong

xiris 2022-04-04 17:30

Oh I love it. Seriously. I love alchemy themed games. I wish only the recipies were a little bit more readable and that instead of just clicking on the items I could actually interact with them (drag & drop, stir and so on). Very fun idea! Great job :)

iluvatar 2022-04-04 17:31

This game has amazing PS1 graphics and incredible mood and atmosphere :) Gameplay is good enough to enjoy it. Well done

rustywolf 2022-04-04 17:32

@tylerstraub should just need to click it when you're at the correct point in a recipe. @xiris Was the goal originally, unfortunately time was too tight. Thanks for the feedback :) @Gotova My teammate adores the style, I have a sneaking suspicion that we were going to end up doing this style regardless

mgear 2022-04-04 17:41

interesting, initially didnt manage to put items on that other pot, maybe had to click the logs first? could have extra info why click doesnt work (like "no fire yet" or so)

spig 2022-04-04 17:49

Loved the game idea! I had to play a few times to get past the first pages of recipe. Sometimes it takes long for the mouse click works adding some of the ingredients and i get stuck in the game. It was fun to try anyways.

danc2236 2022-04-04 18:10

@rustywolf Thanks for fixing. Great work on the game mate

shampop 2022-04-04 19:44

Took me a few try to fire the cauldron, but it's satisfying to finally finish the recipe. Couldn't see the circle glow, guess it's a matter of luck ?

ominusgalaxy44 2022-04-04 21:02

the sound effects were really nice. i think it's a bit difficult to understand what's going on when starting but once i understood it was a really fun game!

alec 2022-04-04 21:27

It took me a minute to realize that there are two different table set-ups. Once I realized what was going on I was able to easily navigate to the correct table and start making potions. If you decide to keep working on this game, it might be cool to have all the ingredients on one table and the cauldron/fire/stir stick on another. But seriously neat little game. The graphics and lighting were absolutely beautiful, and you can never go wrong with an alchemy game.

rustywolf 2022-04-04 23:41

@mgear both cauldrons should work immediately, as long as the item you're putting in follows a recipe

@shampop The glowing seal doesnt happen until later levels

@alec I had it organised originally but found it aided the gameplay to spread things out, add to the chaos a little ;)

harry-holschier 2022-04-05 01:55

Hi all! Glad you like the artstyle, if you're interested check out more of my stuff at https://alcidi.artstation.com/

kromeboy 2022-04-06 18:42

Got some issue following the first recipe: the stirring part after the mint didn't work

aka-black-dog 2022-04-10 13:28

nice game, fun and interesting concept with fitting visuals

sweedy 2022-04-10 15:03

I like this kinda inscryption game concept. It's creepy, dark and mysterious

xoreaxeax 2022-04-10 16:36

Nice game! I like the idea and the graphics I would have liked to have some background ambience/music :)

taximan981 2022-04-11 10:02

What a cool idea, and even better execution! I was reading as fast as I could and I still lost really fast which sucked, but that short window for multiple runs was quite fun!

swordmage 2022-04-11 19:42

I like pixels so I might be biased but the mood is strong. The concept seems very interesting but Im quite bad at it I fear. Great game!

skruffye 2022-04-12 14:39

Ooh, this was hard, but I really liked it! I found the best method was to memorise what you could, and keep one of the cauldrons on standby with one of the longer recipes on the last step, ready to go just in case!

The atmosphere was great, and the retro graphics really added to the mood--great job!

(Also, completely unrelated, but a fun coincidence: our entries have *really* similar thumbnails...!)

This game is a tribute to the "RTFM" acronym, which is amazing. I like the fact that you have to read the recipe and remember it by yourself. In every actual games (and also in many apps and many aspects of our lives), everything is guided, tutorialized, repeated, hinted to the max. In this game we have to learn instructions by heart, and it is frighteningly original.

This obligation to learn by heart perfectly fits with the alchemy theme, where everything is mystical, magic formulas must be pronounced exactly as they are, and knowledge is transmitted by ancient means, without hard-disks or internet or whatever.

About the UI, it could be a good idea to highlight the interactive object that the mouse cursor hovers on, and the interactive zones could be a little bigger than the object itself. It would remove any doubt about the fact that some objects are either not working or we are not selecting them properly.

The demon manifestations are mysterious, the recipes are cryptic, the atmosphere is dark, all this deserves a 5/5 on mood. I totally imagine an ancient guild of alchemists relaying themselves in this laboratory, containing this demon for millenaries. They may have forgot the demon origin and how he could have been sealed in this place, but they still perform their duty and transmit their knowledge from generations to generations.

I made it to the level 3, but the recipes needed too much speed execution for me. Anyway, I loved this game. Thank you !

I loved the PSX styled graphics and I enjoy alchemy related stuff! good work!

don-fouts 2022-04-17 03:46

The graphics are amazing, you've done a great job! I found the game to be a little difficult but I think after a few rounds I started to catch on. I really like the alchemy book and having to check on the demon to see what it's doing to know what to start cooking up. Overall this is a very solid entry, awesome work!

ivana-gigova 2022-04-21 17:04

LOVED the graphics! Great job on that also enjoyed playing the game! :)
