A very direct interpretation of the theme, which is always good to have. The graphics do look quite nice and sold the theme of a lonely, dutiful experience effectively. I felt like the atmosphere of being isolated and seeing the world rebuilding could have been executed better, though, perhaps through a window?

The core gameplay worked well, was intuitive and fit your story but I think it could have been a slight bit more interactive, perhaps by making the player press a physical button on their keyboard instead of just walking into a certain area. This could also have been a way to add some challenge to the game as it currently live off only its theme and the story behind it. A decent small game that made heavy use of the theme, though, good job!

phoenixofforce 2022-04-05 13:57

Haha looks exactly like a game i once made xD

So it looks great and the movement is good. Some more interactivity (as previously commenter said)would've made it even better.

geraldfingburke 2022-04-05 19:25

@noirox @phoenixofforce

I appreciate it! I completely get what you're saying. Each of the pieces of furniture were going to be interactive and the game was going to be more about managing resources as well as time. I had a convention this weekend though and ended up only having a few hours to work. Had to jettison almost everything that wasn't the core idea.

phillip-scott 2022-04-05 20:04

Like the pixel art - Well done on submitting

baconinvader 2022-04-05 20:07

Like noirox says, it's nice to have a very literal interpretation of the theme, but I was hoping for a little more substance. Some challenge or progression might have been nice. Was suprised by the comedic substance of the game after the rather bleak opening message though, lol.

digitaldude555 2022-04-05 20:08

Wow that ending...Like the art of the room, gameplay there isnt much to it, not sure if you had the time but could have found a way to expand on it, it didnt feel responsive clicking the terminal.

flying-dog-fish 2022-04-05 20:08

At first I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing and then I realized I just have to walk to the terminal every 9 seconds.

The concept seems good, but the game seems rather unfinished - more destinations with different timers would be a start.

A word of advice: don't name your game link Source download when it's actually a web game.. most people don't bother clicking on that.

Btw, was the code to enter actually 4 8 15 16 23 42?

remicraft 2022-04-05 20:10

Very interesting concept, I think the story blurb really sells the idea that your job is important to not letting the world down. Would loved some more interactions or audio but this project does make you stop and think.

meg4cyberc4t 2022-04-05 20:10

Looks good! I think you guys have a great future!

geraldfingburke 2022-04-05 22:05

@phillip-scott Thank you! I'm glad I did submit, as I very nearly didn't.

@baconinvader I was streaming development while I was working out the character controller. Everyone laughed at how the player was spinning around so I left it in.

@digitaldude555 I screwed the pooch by working on art before the core game. I made the terminal reactive minutes before the deadline and did it the lazy way instead of the right way because I didn't want to have to create more UI to tell the player how to interact with it.

@flying-dog-fish Thanks for the heads up. I got this in minutes under the wire so I totally spaced on the form. It's fixed now. Also, I had to Google that reference. Never got into Lost. I didn't have cable when it was popular and I feel like the buzz around the ending has made it hard for me to go back and try it.

@remicraft I really feel bad about the audio. You really need it, especially in a scene that's supposed to be tense.

@meg4cyberc4t Thank you. I only wish I didn't make it look like this was my first jam game, because the truth is pretty far from it.

mavvy 2022-04-06 02:59

I personally believe the spinning makes this game. The dry world with a bleak, heavy event about to transpire contrasting with the silly spinning is very funny and interesting.

p-r 2022-04-07 17:14

What are the controls? Don't seem to be able to find them

bradur 2022-04-07 17:23

Hopeless. This is hell. Imagine having to run back and forth all day every 9 seconds just to keep the world from destroying. Well done 😂.

hcs-hades 2022-04-08 05:15

Gotta start somewhere - I see you had plans to add some interactivity which would really add to this game. The jams are so quick its hard to get the features in.

Art was nice and I understood the tiny world you created. Keep at it because there is a cool experience there for sure :)

lecloow7 2022-04-08 06:21

Nice game

geraldfingburke 2022-04-08 14:54

@hcs-hades I was pretty dumb about it. I had a booth at a local con for my gamedev meetup and I thought it would be neat to do the jam live. I ended up not being able to get anything done for the people coming up to talk to us. Great result for the con. Terrible for the jam. I ended up with a rough design I could comfortably do with 72 hours and I had to squeeze it all into the few hours I had after work Monday.

geraldfingburke 2022-04-08 14:57

@p-r WASD or arrows. I just stuck with them because they're universal. I'll add a note for it on the itch page.

@bradur Thank you! Ended up with a "9 second timer" because I got lazy with the floating point math and UI.

@lecloow7 Thank you!

yamaisiukdranko 2022-04-10 12:05

Cool Idea, but I didn't found terminal :sob:

theblitz 2022-04-12 04:01

A simple game... is the terminal all there is to do in the game?

lemonscripts 2022-04-12 13:49

Nice simple game. I liked the pixel art though is reseting timer with terminal only thing to do in the game?

brachistosauro 2022-04-14 20:57

Good use of the theme. The game is pretty bare-bones but in a sense that makes the experience all the more paranoic, which is rather fitting.

paul-nadan 2022-04-17 19:24

I really like the idea behind this! Definitely curious what it would have looked like with a bit more time.
