Nice game!

It took me a while to understand how to use the bulldozers, I kept clicking everywhere and it didn't do anything, only after reading the instructions on itch.io I was able to do it.

The helicopters feel unreliable, I wasn't able to reuse them even after the timer ended.

Interestingly enough, I was able to save 100% of lives on Level 04 first try, but wasn't able to do it on Level 03 even after trying again. Maybe because of the two bulldozers on Level 04, they're pretty OP heheh

Overall, I really enjoyed it. (played every level twice)

This is great, and a much better execution of this idea than our game a few years back

On level 1 I was wishing I could evacuate some houses faster than others, and of course that's what the police do in later levels! The mechanics all work together really well so that it feels like I have enough impact on the simulation, which is the tricky part for a game like this. It was satisfying to plan who to evacuate when, which fires to fight how, etc.

I will say that level 1 was a fine tutorial level, but should probably be like 4x faster than it was. It was a lot of waiting once the fires were under control. On the whole I think the game would benefit from a speed control, because you switch between moments of high tension where you want to be controlling all your people and moments of waiting to see where the next hotspot will be, and it would be nice to have more control over how quickly those phases progress.

One little thing I'd love to see is a 'person count'. I think it's cooler to 'save 1000 lives' than to 'save 100% of the lives' and you could just say each house has X people in it. Even if it's the same for every house (though if it weren't, that could factor into what order the player wants to evacuate them), it would ground things in reality better.

The radio chatter sound in the background made me feel a lot less like a floating eyeball in the sky and more like I was in a control room giving orders; it's a nice touch! I too think a speed control would be nice, especially on the first level. Really enjoyed level 4, the bulldozers add a whole other layer of strategy to things! The firetruck water-spraying animations are nice, i like the flashing vehicle lights, and of course the fire effect is great. The art style as a whole is very cohesive, and the game is very clear about what's on fire, what's not, who's evacuated, who isn't, etc. etc. Very readable gameplay  Nice work!

Wow, this one was pretty stressful in a fun way! That might also be because I've had to evacuate for wildfires before so it hits a little close to home.

Loved the mechanics and I really loved the tutorial. I do feel that the game as a whole moves a little too slow, especially the first level. I would half the time it takes to put out fires with the firetrucks (then maybe speed up the fire to compensate). Had a few weird sound things happen but otherwise I didn't encounter any bugs.

Surprisingly fun game. Excellent job. Innovative game play and everything works. I really like the idle mechanic and the audio is awesome.

I really had fun playing this :D Thanks!

This is great. I only wish you could de-select the vehicles somehow so that you can't do any accidental move clicks, but that's my only real complaint, great job.

laserpanzerwal 2022-04-20 10:36

Thanks for the feedback (to everyone), I'm really happy to see you enjoyed the game and the time spent on development was worth it.

@glowingredhue Actually, you can de-select units by right-clicking. I think that can be optimized too though, maybe de-select by clicking the card.

@jamtempisto I never encountered that issue, but I will look into it. Did you make sure to select the helicopter again? It auto-deselects when used as it is unavailable for a while.

@bongard22 @prakkus I think I see the issue about game speed, especially in the (as you guessed it) kinda tutorial level 1. That is going to be fixed.

I took all feedback into account and will definitely optimize those aspects in the post-jam. Please come back then to check it out!

One thing for sure, the music is very good! I left my computer on the main screen while I was cooking... and after 30 minutes it was still a nice tune.

It was really fun to play, and it felt real. It also has a nice complexity and a really polished look and feel.

My problem was only with the first level: it felt bit slow. It was simple, that's how it should be. But due to it's simplicity and long evacuation time, I was a bit boring after a while.

On the other hand: Level 2 was so much fun already! I like that I had a "cooldown" "ability", also the police for support, etc.

I think this could be a full game man! Cheers!

Edit: Why can't I give it a rating? Is it disabled? If so, why?

Nice sound design, very atmospheric

jean-francois 2022-04-20 17:23

Really nice and really close to our game ^^ I like the sound design and the game is fun ! well done

antsa 2022-04-20 22:12

The ticking sound in the end when the evacuation was almost finished was a bit odd. Like I think I'm not fighting against time running out, but the ticking makes it sound like I'm running out of time even though its a good thing that time passes

me4502 2022-04-21 05:27

Nice game, definitely creates a tense atmosphere. Only thing I'd personally change is making it more obvious how long until a fire tile is put out - there were a few times where I had to choose between leaving a firetruck somewhere for a few seconds or moving them somewhere more pressing.

lakedev 2022-04-21 09:31

I don't usually play strategy games, but the way you only have to control a few units made it quite approachable! Having to decide where to place each vehicle with threats coming from all angles was an interesting challenge, but I think it took way too long to complete a single level: I'd enjoy it more if the gameplay loop was faster, maybe by having a smaller map or having actions happen quicker, I don't know lol. In the end, very nice and fun game!

This is great take on the theme of the jam! I also like your sounds and UI.

Thanks for the game.

Great game, loved the concept

squp 2022-04-21 18:30

Really really neat game !!!! I especially liked the sound design. Really engaging. I feel like it would've been neat if fire engines could drive onto bulldozed terrain to fight fires in the middle of forests, but other than that i found the mechanics real solid. Awesome game.
