i forgot the instructions during the game already, so maybe some help screen would be nice! but nice idea and matches theme.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Bacterial Protection

I agree with mgear that I wish there was some instructions outside the intro (just in the text below on itch would be enough). I had to reload twice to watch it again.
Anyway, I like the concept but felt it was very hard (or I was doing something wrong) and my blue colony never really grew beyond 5-6. Would love to get some tips for strategy and try again. :)
@lantto @mgear Yes! You are both right the instructions should be written down somewhere, when the rating finishes I will edit the itch.io page, thank you for the feedback.
To be honest I couldn't get my colony above 5, so I'm impressed you got 6. I did change the amount of food the blue bacteria needs to multiply from 3 to 2 just before I submitted it but after the competition I might increase the food available or decrease that number from 2 to 1.
As for strategies, the bacteria move randomly so the blue laser is the best way to move them into food, especially on a larger setting. But if you mean general strategies the only interesting one I can think of is using the blue laser to move enemy bacteria into other enemy bacteria to destroy them.
Thank you both for playing.
Good idea. The instructions are hard to remember, maybe some extra info during game would be nice. I found a bug with the audio in the game over screen.
Interesting idea! As other people have said I kinda forgot what the controls did exactly by the time I started playing and I couldn't understand which of the lasers I was using before I pressed the mouse button. The collisions where a bit weird but overall it was a good game
@sir-syko Those comments are fair. Thank you for playing. 🙂
I wish it had some instructions in the game. I wasn't sure what I was doing.
Aside from the instruction part, I think this was fun! Thanks for the upload!
Nice game! The collisions feel a bit off, but beside that interesting concept and great job on the game!
Great game story and very addictive! Perhaps the mechanics are a bit complicated, I mean, I have a hard time clicking on the bacteria. Other than that everything else is great, nice game!
Nice one GG ! the deplacement is very random ( like in real life ;) ), i think just circle collider with push force will make gameplay better. The story make laught with the "why are you explaining that to me ?". Well done !
I agree with @castoor, the intro was funny, It is a good and funny idea to start a game. But this is very hard to improve the colony!
It took me a minute to get what I was doing, but after that it was good. The dialog at the beginning was great.
I liked that the music has some variety. While a few of the individual parts seem a bit robotic like they were generated, the way the music evolves over time helps make up for that. I wish there was some type of indicator on the mouse pointer for which color and size are currently active, since I found that could get confusing. Love your intro dialogue establishing both story and gameplay, and the idea of bacterial colonies fighting for dominance is a clever interpretation of the theme. Solid work!
I could not fully get the keyboard controls to work, and had to use the mouse mostly. But still, after a few rounds I got to a maximum colony of 5.
Graphics and music are minimalistic, but fitting.
And the intro was hilarious! All in all a great first game jam game!
Really funny intro, 5/5 on humor! Quite an interesting concept.
Nice intro, nice art. Gameplay was ok, but I'm not sure. I didn't see any indicator what power level my laser was and which laser I had selected. It took me way too long to understand what I was doing :D It was very good first jam entry though. Keep it up :)
