Super cute game! I love the idea and execution! It was a little difficult at first, and it seems like the price gets steep pretty quickly, I felt if you weren't constantly growing sunflowers then the price of the components got out of hand pretty quickly. Overall I did enjoy this game quite a bit great job!

Very cute and well-thought out idea. The graphics are very nice and you set a very good atmosphere with the music and design.

The gameplay idea is very addicting, but unfortunately I had the feeling that the game needed some more tweaking. I played around with different strategies, but almost none of the available plants seemed to lead to success. I couldn't figure out what the light flower does, the soulcatcher was not worth the effort, since I was happy with my manual hit rate. The plants that increase soul count and speed seemed too much of a hassle to keep alive to offset the loss in funds I incurred when growing them.

So I basically adopted the strategy to exclusively grow sunflowers, one at a time. Since a grown sunflower only gives a price cut once they mature, I would simply let them die and plant a new one. This together with setting the soul speed to high was enough to carry me through the game.

It's a pity because with a little more balancing I think this could have been very addicting. It already was motivating enough to let me finish it though, so all in all, good job!

If you're interested, I found three technical issues:

1) Whenever I pick a seed, there is a music hiccup. For some reason this does not happen with the other resources.

2) The symbols sometimes appear behind the plants which makes it very difficult to find out what they need. In some cases you can only see a single pixel poking out somewhere to assume that you need sunlight.

3) More a design choice really, but it might have been a bit more user friendly to allow changing items even if you have one in your hand, instead of going through the detour of putting it in the trash.

Thanks for the feedback, because there was so little time I didn't save anytime for play testing and just put what I thought was right. I will try to play test my games in the future.

THis is my favourite game that i've played so far. I couldn't really grow lots of flowers or couldn't figure it out though. The music, art game gameplay fits so well together. Great job! Love the idea.

Good game. As a fan of garden simulators loved to see one in the competition. But for me game feels so hard to understand and is really rappid in gameplay, like I just planted a flower and second after it dies because I don't water it. Also as a person above mention, game just don't allow you to test other plants, so you only way to live is to plant sunflower and let it die.

But with some balace tweaks I see this game in my Steam library easily

I love games like this. Strategic sandbox. Cool idea, and thematic with the increasing prices. I had to make some risky decisions like, "Do I water this now? But what if the rose needs watering soon? Should I save up?" Definitely one of my favorite submissions gameplay-wise.

That said, it took me awhile to figure out what was going on, and the pacing seems a bit fast. I wasn't ever able to get more than a few plants up and running before they'd die. Didn't get to see the benefits of using them :(

Great job overall.

Very cute and beautiful game, but either I'm very bad at it (which is probably the case) or it is super difficult XD

studio-vykanic 2022-04-05 21:50

Music and graphics are nice! Took me a bit to get the idea it could be a tad difficult, which I know the game I made for ludum dare 50 is too haha.

That's the first game I'm testing a game over this Jam, and I'm always sad when a game dont propose a GamePad support (Because I consider that doesnt ask that much of work, I was in charge of this point in our project), in particular when it asks/impose to use the QWERT(Y/Z) layout, but it's only my personal P.O.V., so it must not enter in count when voting. (Next time, think about all these countries which are not using it please :o )

The font dont match the rest of the game, maybe you planed to put a pixel-style font and the exportation on a Web format didnt get it ?

The music is nice, I would like to have it in the main menu. I would liked to "cancel" the fact I have a seed in my hand by pushing an other button, I see why you put a "trash" button, but this added a button for nothing if you had made something like I described. The game is a bit complated only because of this point I think.

Writing the command aside of the event would have be great because in lower right corner, I see "Water"/"Wind"/"Sun", and in the control menu I see "Water"/"Sun"/"Wind" for A/S/D >.> , so I was a bit confused.

It's impressive it was made by only one person, good job to you ;) !

I like the vibe and idea! Very cute. Agreed with some other comments here that this could be great with some balancing and tweaks.

mlkvr 2022-04-06 15:28

I failed couple of times why my reaper doesn't move later but later i figured it out and had fun, the only thing missing is a bit balance it's getting harder so fast other than that good job, congrats!

pev 2022-04-06 22:22

Fun little game! I feel for the reaper. And the girl-reaper is cute too.

perfectsquare 2022-04-06 22:24

Very cute game. I love the flower reaper, so adorable <3. Also great job with the music, it really helped set the tone for the game. As others have mentioned there's some room for balance tweaks to make it easier at the start (expected for a jam game though!) but once you get the hang of it it's a lot of fun.

kiddy 2022-04-06 22:34

It was hard to understand and even harder after I understand. It's really frustrating to see a plant die in less than 3 seconds without having time to react. But I spend more time than I thought on it, the concept is really cool, it just need a bit of balancing. I love the art, I love the music and I love the little story.

eli-haun 2022-04-06 22:42

Like Others have said, I really like the idea, but it jut needs more balancing. I feel like the game will be GREAT, but as it is it is just too tedious. Love the idea though! Would love to come back after balancing/fixing and play it again

Another thing I will add: it is too dark. Like, It is hard to see the plants needs, because they are all the same general hue of the ground. A more 'vivid' depiction of the UI will make it a lot easier to see

vgel 2022-04-06 22:48

Cool game! There's definitely potential, but as it is I found it really frustrating -- my plants kept dying in the early game if I would miss even 1-2 ghosts. I think the balance isn't *that* bad, but there's some UI changes that would really help things:

* Put the hotkeys next to the elements in-game -- I forgot the hotkeys for the trash can, for example, because I didn't need it that much, and having to click a button with the mouse in this game can be a guaranteed ghost loss, at least on a laptop trackpad * Make the missing resources for flowers more visually and auditorily prominent -- they're easy to miss since they're dark against a dark background * Allow the user to click on a flower and auto-buy the resources it needs, instead of needing to pick them one-by-one (this would definitely change the time management aspect of the game, though)

captainexpo 2022-04-07 00:01

Really cool art and animations, overall I thought that this was really cool.

wouter52 2022-04-07 17:43

Cute and addictive game, I like it! :-) The plants sometimes die a little fast though, it reminds me a lot of my house plants

tanis 2022-04-10 20:22

This game is challenging. Well done!

lesinvisible 2022-04-14 10:41

Very nice visuals and audio, I liked the overall atmosphere of the game, and how the controls felt. My only issue with the game was that it's kinda too hard, I don't know if it's just my problem or not. But for me it was quite challenging, and didn't manage to beat it.

As from the technical part, I agree with some of the comments above. The visual cues for flowers' needs and hotkeys could've been reworked.

grumpy-gecko 2022-04-21 04:14

I liked the concept of this game! Kept me busy trying to multi task the objectives. The icons for the plants needs could sometimes be hard to see so I'd sometimes miss them, but overall great game!
