What are you doing to me man? This is so addicting. I came in first and still wanted to "one more turn" a few (too many) times just to see how feasible it was to control a whole continent. I see elements of Diplomacy and Risk, but with plenty of innovation and uniqueness. Plus, just super execution for a jam game. There's so much in this and yet you managed to cram in enough polish and quality of life to make this feel like a proper game. If anything there's a little too much to keep track of, especially on a first try, but I love what I saw and would gladly come back for more.

I downloaded the installation package and ran "LudumDare2021Oct.exe", but nothing seemed to appear. I wonder if I need to install something extra?

timmith 2021-10-05 22:37

I have to admit, I was a bit confused at first, but as the turns progressed and the aim of the game became more obvious, I found myself having a lot of fun with the sort of vicarious-influence-based Risk gameplay that unfolded. It was cool to invest in winning sides across the nation and sabotage the other European relations. A great game offering many different long-term strategies, excellent execution, would play again in my own time.

@cloudlunar - There were a bunch of dependencies that I missed (notably OpenGL and everything that comes with it). I've uploaded a new zip file that should have absolutely every technical dependency included. Let me know if that doesn't work. Thank you!

Really nice job! Never would have expected a grand strategy jam game, nice work getting it done on time!

emilalix 2021-10-07 17:45

A very good strategy game, with plenty features and a nice historic context. Thanks for made France playable.

cloudlunar 2021-10-08 05:09

@juxipolo I can enter the game with the new installation package, but every time I finish the conversation, an error prompt will appear and I can't continue to complete the game png

juxipolo 2021-10-09 06:30

@cloudlunar - I wasn't careful when formatting the date, and that pulled in some characters based on your Windows locale settings that the font I'm using doesn't support. I just implemented a quick fix and uploaded that. Hopefully that's the last issue. Thank you so much for your patience!

Glad I finally managed to play the game!

Haha I didn't expect that there would be such a problem across languages. It is true that I am not using an English system. I also learned from it.

It's impressive to find a strategy game in LD. It's a game with depth of play, which is very exciting~ I've only just finished one round, and I think I can continue to play another one. Nice Work!

Wow, the amount of content in this game is crazy. No clue how you managed to pull this off. This is super impressive! There's clearly a ton of mechanical depth. The game is a bit slow and boring at times, and there's no audio, but this is a very cool concept.

iasonasgts 2021-10-10 20:17

My god how did you pull this out in 3 days . Awsome job man the content is sooo much . I cant find something negative. I strongly suggest that you continue this project add some better graphics and animations and publish the game cause the idea is pretty good .

What a game! Really great classic strategy gameplay that felt fleshed out and complex. I think the story and world-building are cool too. I do wish that I understood what money, food, and manufacturing did a bit more, and for some reason it wouldn't let me do fullscreen. Overall your game really impressed me and I can't wait to play it again. This is easily one of my favorites of this jam. Great job!

prismapunch 2021-10-12 05:24

Very ambitious game, interesting concept but it seemed like there was some planned features that got cut, some things are never explained/dont make sense, but I wish I could do my turn faster! Very nice game.

svntax 2021-10-12 05:25

This is such a solid, in-depth game! It took a few turns for me to really start understanding the strategy behind conquering states and using spies effectively, but I can see now how much flexibility there is on how you can play.

concker-88 2021-10-16 22:45

You are a FUCKING madman!!

Willing to do such an idea is insane but effectively achieve it is quite the feat. I can't express how impress I am by what you did, especially knowing you're a one man band! I had a ton of fun playing it.

Bravo!!

zimny11 2021-10-17 12:48

You created all of this in 72h and alone? This is beyond impressive. Amazing game! Only thing missing is some marching soundtrack with flute and war drums :)

tgb20 2021-10-17 14:08

This is an incredible game to be made in this time frame and I am super surprised I was only the 20th person to rate it! Expanding this to a world wide, more political risk would make quite the follow up if you every want to keep improving it. One of the best I have played so far.

random-ideation-studios 2021-10-17 14:40

Amazing game and you should should be on top 50 at least top 100!!!!!!!!

dgspitzer 2021-10-18 08:38

Wow such a deep gameplay, and also contains many historical info, so cool!

kr4ft3r 2021-10-18 12:33

Awesome job man. I too went for a strategy game in an unstable region that I'm familiar with, though it is more light hearted and nowhere near as complex and polished as yours. And I wanted to add a "foreign observer" faction where you mostly watch AI and make small influences (a cross between "watch AI" and your actual gameplay) but that was quite out of scope. You got nothing to kick yourself over btw, despite going for a too ambitious project the amount of gameplay you achieved by the deadline is staggering.

What is refreshing in particular is the amount of code you wrote. I don't mean to hate on game engines, but this approach should be valued more in LD events.

Despite your nice effort to inject tips into the game, it is still hard to just pick up and play, as there is lack of idea of what the general strategy would be. Of course once some effort is put in and shit starts happening I started to get idea, but still it does demand more focus than what usual LD guy who is checking the game out is willing to give. Also it would be nice to see faction names on the map all the time as I'm not great with geography. And the fact that win condition is to gain trust of as many states as possible, it does become a bit tedious work where one has to scatter attention all over the place, at least for me personally as in strategy games I prefer to focus on as few regions as possible.

Despite all that pretty impressive job with camera works and interface. I praise in particular the mouse wheel zooming where the cursor is pointing approach, even some high profile strategy games fail to implement that useful thing.

blake-mullin 2021-10-18 16:17

I'm a huge strategy and 4x fan so I was excited to see this one! I think there's an impressive amount of complexity here and it's a great concept that fits the theme. This is an awesome foundation with lots great ideas, I think you got it to a great spot for the jam. It would be exciting to see what this could become with a little more time for clarity of mechanics, but you should be happy with how much you packed into the timeframe.

paulsams 2021-10-19 17:22

I don't really like games with a bunch of numbers, but you know ... It was a pleasure for me to play your game, because there were a bunch of animations, cool training and you can see that it was interesting for you to do it yourself). Thank you for this game).

cameron-paxton 2021-10-20 18:28

Incredibly impressive for a game jam! I really like the alternate history aspect of it.

Were it developed over a longer period, an tutorial section where maybe you just play in the original 13 colonies, or New England, etc, would help introduce the concepts and how everything connects a little better. As it is now, it's pretty overwhelming when you first load it up.

I feel like this is something you could really sit down and play for a long time. Really well done!
