when i click the link to your itch page, i get a 404

mrtroy 2021-10-04 23:40

@javi7 Please try again. There was an issue with itch where it wasn't showing the page as live.

~~I love the title, but unfortunately it doesn't load for me (Firefox on Linux).~~ Never mind, it did load eventually, just veeeeery slowly.

The name is great, as is the 2D art. I'm not sure it goes together that well with the 2D style of the boat, and the boat is quite small which makes it a bit tricky to see how your navigation will affect the pile of objects. But the concept seems solid.

Very good work when it comes to art style. I like it, cargo is wacky and it's fun to keep it on the board.

Really good looking game, plays well, I'm glad keeping the cargo on the boat isn't actually that important. Got to around 6k points before I just got tired and crashed intentionally haha

Not a bad idea and unusual, beautiful graphics. One moment it seems to me that the sea should also have been stylized as a map.

I didn't see the 'l' in the name and thought you literally named the game Katamari Damacy, the boat has a weight to it and handles fine, had to get used to gauging where the hitboxes due to the perspective but decent game overall.

Kinda disappointed the game wasn't a giant squid rolling around in the ocean collecting other sealife lol

Loved the design and look of all the sea creatures and the music was fun without getting too annoying the longer you played which is nice, however the hitboxes for items in the water felt inconsistent. Overall a great submission!

Really liked this, firsty i'd like to say i think the boat feels a bit too heavy and not fun to control, and the sea could be stylized as well. Now with that out of the way, WHAT A GORGEOUS GAME, it's presented beautifuly, the mix of 2d and 3d works great both for the art and for the gameplay, the gameplay loop is also really good itself, perhaps could be a bit better if we could choose how to stack the cargo on the ship, but overall an absolute good time playing it, very well done, congrats!

Kinda got a little scared when I saw those sea monsters! Really liked the creature art, and the game was overall pretty solid. Could have been interesting to see the unstable mechanic also take place while you swerved back and forth too, but that could definitely become frustrating without careful balance. Keep boating!

Nice game Dude

Graphics look amazing and super polished, especially the start menu. I also like the feel of the controls, it makes the game seem balanced. I think adding boss battles or a new mechanic(s) as the player goes further along may help keep the game interesting for longer play periods!

naymsayk 2021-10-07 20:43

Oh no my stuff. My precious stuff. The little boat with all the stuff on felt nice and weighty and I liked seeing all the stuff move about. The mix of 2d and 3d worked well enough and I liked all the sea stuff in general to be honest.

Fun game loop. Trying to think about what shapes of cargo to stack to keep things stable is a nice mechanic!

Nice infinite shipper! "Old map" graphics are well adapted to the theme of the game. Few things to think about: - In order to sustain a consistent look I think that the ship and collectibles could also be hand drawn or with a cell shader. Just more corresponding to etched art used everywhere else. - The elements the player collect could also be pirate or "high seas" themed like golden coins or bottles of rum. Currently the cubes or cylinders don't have clear associations to the theme. - Also the skull shaped mouse cursor is beautiful, yet seems to be very important during play time and falsely indicates that the player has to somehow interact with it in the game.

Fun game! I love the loop and getting everything to balance just right is very satisfying. Menus are well polished and everything feels really good. Only bit of advice would be to have the 3d art match the very good 2d art a little more, but I understand the restraints of a jam. Overall a really good game. Great job!

Cool concept, I like the game loop too. The graphics look really nice, as if they belong on an old pirate map or something. Fun to play and seems well polished too. Nice work

Full comment!

I really, *really* like the load balancing mechanic. The simple rule adds a shocking amount of depth to an otherwise age-old side-scrolling arcade game. From making certain luggage more valuable than the rest, to making the "hug the left side of the screen" actually *not* the most optimal strategy, there's a lot of complex decisions I had to make while focusing on avoiding krakens and dragons. Very good call on keeping the ship only tilt left or right, while leaving vertical tilts unaffected. That made the mechanic just simple enough to manage, given the player needs to focus on dodging as well.

There was a point in the game where I felt the ship was moving too quickly. Combined with the relatively slow movement of the ship, there was a point in the game where I just gave up because I couldn't feasibly dodge everything. I'm aware the game was designed to be like an arcade, but it would have been nice if there were levels/stages so it felt like I was making progression instead of trying to play forever.

Still, there's a very strong potential behind this concept, and I certainly would like to see it expanded upon.
