Game file for windows crash while loading(

klaaswag 2021-04-27 13:05

Game looks very nice (and funky music too), however it was a little fast... also I don't really know what it has to do with the theme of this LDjam. Still a good rating cuz it looks soo nice

saussol 2021-04-27 13:05

good mood

seb-degraff 2021-04-27 13:07

@xarina777 On no! Thanks for reporting the crash. Do you have an error message?

seb-degraff 2021-04-27 13:08

@klaaswag Thanks! As you feed the Toad, it grows and croaks with a deeper and deeper voice, breaking more ice blocks each time

xarina777 2021-04-27 13:12

@seb-degraff No error message, game just close permanently

eharp 2021-04-27 13:14

I like the concept and the play on deep notes and deep freeze was clever. The art is nice and the interaction feels good. Playing alone I often felt like there was nothing I could do to stop the ice. It seemed like ice cleared from the top down, which wasn't always helpful. I also grabbed all the bugs I could access relatively fast leaving me to just sit around during the winter phase.

sodaro 2021-04-27 13:14

Neat game! :) Wish there was a sound for hitting the ice blocks, didn't realize you could break them completely as only the first hit changed the sprite. Aside from that it had a nice look/style!

asdehielo 2021-04-27 13:18

The art is nice, visually it's a really fun game. The gameplay is simple but works well.

However, the keyboard controls didn't make any sense to me. Seems like both players need to have their hands crossed. I'll have to try again if I come across a controller.

Good job!

yanergy 2021-04-27 13:21

Nice game. I really liked the sprites and animations and the movement was nice. I did think the ice was grew a bit too fast but I also was playing alone. It overall had a nice atmosphere and a funny concept. Good job!

seb-degraff 2021-04-27 13:36

@xarina777 Do you still have the game files? There should be a log file in a folder next to the executable (provided the game managed to launch at least a bit). If there is could you send the contents to me? My discord handle Séb#1079

lootgrounds 2021-04-27 13:40

Windows build crashes. There're errors with assets import, cannot find png files

seb-degraff 2021-04-27 14:02

@lootgrounds Thanks for reporting the crash. It's weird that it seems to work for some people but not for others. Could you send me the content of the log file in a folder next to the executable? And just to be sure, have you properly unzipped the game folder?

nicso 2021-04-27 17:41

loved the art style :heart:

nice work overall

nabo369 2021-04-29 13:58

I love this game! The art is so charming, the theme is clever and it feels like it comes straight out of a fairy tale or something.

jefvel 2021-04-30 13:28

This was a fun game once you learn how it works! Took a few tries for me to win but i managed and now the frog can survive forever

The graphics are really nice, like book illustrations. That along with the sound effects gave the game a nice athmosphere.

There were some small control weirdness going on though, like if you press the catch button, and immediately start changing directions, the character will reset the catch animation and be stuck in peace until you do moving for a while.

With some polish and few more game elements this could be a nice full post jam game!

Great work :)

seb-degraff 2021-05-17 21:10

@nicso @nabo369 @jefvel Thank you very much :)

Fun, Simple, and Charming little game. Very lovely but would love to see some slight re-balancing. To me there were big chunks of time in which I spend doing nothing, because no insects were on the screen. Furthermore I would like to do more decision making between short term and long term goals.

As a player there is no need to break ice unless the only insect on screen is trapped. I would love to see the toadfrog slightly nerfed, and the ice have more tiers with HP. This way when a toadfrog of low level roars it will leave behind some cracked ice for the players to deal with.

Another thing I am feeling is a lack of transparency/communication with the frequency when the toadfrog is roaring. To me it didn't feel evenly timed nor was it something I could influence. Maybe a balancing act could really help with having two different kinds of insect. One fat and juicy to help grow the toadfrog and one lovely, cutesy little fly when fed always makes the toadfrog roar. In multiplayer groups this will lead to screaming and giving orders on focusing breaking the ice, grabbing roar flys, and trying to feed the toadfrog fat enough.

seb-degraff 2021-05-17 21:36

@kaytrill very good points, thank you for the ideas! I especially like the roars leaving cracked ice to finish. The triggering of the roaring depends on multiple factors including how full the toad is and the advancement of the ice (the closer to the toad the more urgent). I agree it should be more transparent, we had the idea to visualize it with a gauge but didn't get around to doing it.

I also wish we had more time to work on the game design and balancing during the jam, but I'll definitely try to balance it better for a post jam version.

Thanks for your analysis!

I spent some time playing and I really enjoyed it! The art is beautiful, I like the simple mechanics, it’s challenging and catchy. Too bad I had to play alone, I bet it would have been even more fun. Good job!

Interesting and fun game, unfortunately I ran into missing png files problem that some people described. I simply looked at the logs and copy/pasted the names from the log into the file names, and everything worked fine, looks like there were some weird characters in the file name. I have US English Windows 10 with Russian locale, and it was looking for names such as "Anim_scarabйe1.png.bin", whereas the distro had "Anim_scarabВe1.png.bin" instead with a bunch of other pngs, all related to the Anim_scarab* in main folder and in frog/beatle_anim folder. After fixing this, game worked fine and was actually fun to play.

macaroni-dev 2021-05-18 06:13

I sadly couldn't play this game. After picking characters, it crashed with

``` Tried to access asset 'Anim_scarabΘe3.png' which is currently not loaded (asset id 188). (src/rdx_asset_decl.c:1019) ```
I was running it with wine64 on Linux (NixOS)
bmacintosh 2021-05-18 06:53
What outstanding art. I especially enjoyed the player character animations, and the reflections in the pond really added a lot to it. The music really added to the feel as well; it reminded me of Ibb & Obb. Only gripe would be that it got a bit samey after a while, I finished it mostly because I saw that the frog was changing shapes so I figured there must be some kind of end.
seb-degraff 2021-05-18 08:23
@kr0s Aaah thank you for finding the source of the problem! Much appreciated
seb-degraff 2021-05-18 08:27
@joaog @bmacintosh Thank you!
zaibakk 2021-05-18 09:27
Nice job! I really enjoyed this game! It is polished and well executed! A lot of fun, expecially in co-op! Great job! :)
doot 2021-05-18 09:47
Beautiful game! The art is stunning, good job team! The music and sounds are nice too. I had fun, but felt like the movement was too slow and I didn't quite understand what the ice blocks do. Thanks for the game!
xatulu 2021-05-18 14:57
Hey there, I just got around to playing and rating your game! Very well polished, awesome aesthetics! A bit sad that I can't try the Co-Op today, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
