Nice idea. I've liked pretty much everything about the game. However, few times I've run into two event cards one after another, which immediatly destroyed my civilization even though I *think* is was going well. Not sure if that's intentional but it feels a bit overpowered.

havok06 2021-04-26 11:26

Thank you @uzpykes!

Did you manage to beat it ?

It was intended indeed, the shuffle of cards is entirely random and i think the game could be improved with some base rules setup for the randomness. This could be a solution to limit this kind of case.

I also had the idea of letting the player choose which events he wants applied.

danceswe 2021-04-26 16:24

Thanks for the game - really enjoyed it. It's pretty discoverable - after a few games I got the rules. Didn't manage to beat it, though I think I'd get there in a few more runs.

verygenuinecraze 2021-04-26 16:33

I absolute love this game. I really had the feeling of playing an actual solo card game. I beat it (I didn't want to rate before finishing it). Very good gameplay.

If I had something to change, it would be the lack of music. I would had a calm and relaxing music.

Interesting game! I lost when my goal was science since I was buying a lot of blank cards, but won when my goal was civilization. It was nice that I always had the option of selling a card from the store if I didn't want or couldn't afford either. I appreciate that you added tooltips to explain the icons in the game.

havok06 2021-04-27 09:23

Thank you @DancesWE for playing it. I'm glad that you enjoyed the learning curve, this was one of my goals. By playing myself and looking at other people playing, I realized there are some goals that are way harder than the others. This obviously needs a huge balancing pass, otherwise it is a bit frustrating.

havok06 2021-04-27 09:25

@VeryGenuineCraze Thank you ! Your enthusiasm feels really good.

I totally agree that the gameplay is there, I would just need to balance some things for it to be really good.

Sound is definitely not my strong point for sure, especially on short notice. I have no idea how to make music.

verygenuinecraze 2021-04-27 09:28

@havok06 Making music is the hardest. I cheated by using Kalimba (every sound you make on this instrument sound like music  )

havok06 2021-04-27 09:29

@Rose thank you for the kind words.

I had an idea to make science more appealing but did not have time to implement it.

What is not clear when you play the game is that I have a list of 68 card, and 9 are taken out at ransom at the start of the game. I had the idea that taking science cards could bring them back and give the player the option of building them immediately. Instead I made just two science cards that give a small advantage (seeing the type of cards that are under the stacks in advance). I had also the idea of one card that would add a third stack of cards to choose from.

Science could have been so interesting

Really impressive for a compo. I really like how the cost of cards change depending on what you previouly purchased. I think someone mentioned it already but having multiple event cards can really screw you over, so maybe more evenly distributing the events card to maybe like one every 5 cards would make it more fun. Haven't won a game yet but I'll keep trying after this.

indigowolf 2021-04-29 19:40

I really enjoyed this and the pacing at which the cards change. Really solid game.

adonisdevs 2021-04-29 19:48

I beat it once when the goal was development (seems to be the easiest goal). I really enjoyed playing around with this. My one bit of feedback would be to give science cards more effects. I could find no reason to buy the textless ones. Additionally, the text of the chosen cards should be bigger and easier to read. Other than that, I really enjoyed this concept :)

willoxs 2021-04-29 19:52

I like the card game idea - even though the theme is not as prevelent as in other games. I feel like the concept is really good and could make for a nice family card game (like real physical cards) if you want to go into that direction. The balance is a bit wanky right now (i feel like the desasters decide more than the player choice at times). I dont know if thats a bug or if i just missed something that happened but i think you can sell desaster cards (so they dont effect the game - but maybe im wrong there).

I have one quick tip for better graphics: the three icons you have are in different styles. Make either all of them pixel art or use the style of the blue one for the other two as well.

But yeah the big selling point is the innovative idea and that really worked for me.

havok06 2021-04-29 19:53

@adonisdevs I totally agree with your feedback. I had plans for the science cards that I couldn't implement in time. What I could have done for the cards is to make them larger when hovering on them. Thanks for the feedback.

thegreenworm 2021-04-29 19:53

This is a very "deep" game, I'm impressed by the amount of game rules you managed to make for this game. There's a lot of content packed into it, and with some UI work this could definitely become a very good card/management game.

Good job !

ramkey 2021-04-29 19:55

I adore card games in jam times, and the changing cost is really neat.

antonishig 2021-04-29 19:58

Nice entry, really interesting concept with a lot of potential for development! I second other comments, some music would give it some extra appeal. Won on economical goal!!

havok06 2021-04-29 20:11

@antonishig Well player ! I think economical might be the hardest one with all the event discarding economic cards. Thank you for the feedback.

Took a couple of games to get the rules down but after that I enjoyed playing it and was able to get a victory with the development goal. Tool tips were nice but a bit difficult to read due to the font rendering. Only major complaint is one that others have mentioned, losing because of multiple event cards in a row. It feels like they should be a secondary deck where the draw from it is triggered by something else.

feralpoodles 2021-04-29 22:55

I really enjoyed this!! It took me a couple tries to understand how to not die haha, but it was fun to strategize once I got it! I agree that maybe science could be given a little more power, since I found myself just selling them whenever they popped up haha. I would definitely play this if it was expanded into a bigger game, great job!! :)

dom-de-re 2021-04-30 00:04

This was really fun! It's a real feat getting mechanics that work this week in such a short time frame!

darqweful 2021-04-30 06:40

Fun game! I kept trying to build up cards in all categories just like it said in the game description but kept dying. I finally won when I concentrated on only defense and the goal. Overall a really nice idea and with some tweaking and polish I can see it becoming a full-fledged game. Great work!

mighty-mufflon-games 2021-04-30 07:14

Okay, I needed some time to understand what I was supposed to do, but then it was an interesting game. I missed the deeper and deeper theme, but I like it though.

In one round I played all cards and then nothing happens anymore.world_in_peril.jpg

havok06 2021-04-30 08:22

@mighty-mufflon-games Yes I noticed this when I played it after publication. I had programmed a losing state when that happened but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks for the feedback !

cottontshirtz 2021-05-01 04:19

I had a difficult time understanding how the costs were calculated. The other colors have obvious effects, but I'm not sure of the purpose of the green cards...

preda 2021-05-18 17:53

The tool tips were a bit too small for me. But other than that, nice little game!
