Great game as always. The visuals and audio are brilliant. Touches like the coffee mug, seagulls, and little rumbles here and there really set the mood. First time I got the turbulence from the whale(?) was another great moment. I liked that what was happening outside the window was actually secondary/redundant where gameplay was concerned and the game was completely played on the little displays in the game.

Downsides? Maybe the grabber minigame was a little too easy. I didn't fail it once or perhaps I'm just that good at games. To be honest though I couldn't really fault it.

Good stuff :8ball:

Thank you! 💜 Felt minigame was easy too but kept making it harder and worried I'd played it too much and that it would still be difficult for first-time players, or not balanced with the frustration of also not always getting a treasure, but I guess it still could have been harder then haha 😅 Turbulence creature graphics are intentionally vague but then again the sound is straight up a whale, so yeah 🐋

silkworm-sweatshop 2021-04-27 14:25

Gameplay might be a bit slow for me but the mood is definitely there. Graphics and audio are on point. Really feels like you're out at sea. The little mini game was pretty neat although it could use some variety. Maybe add some harpoons for the whales **(I'm sorry...)**

ava-skoog 2021-04-27 17:01

Oyy, whale is buddy! 🐳 Thanks so much for playing and glad you liked it despite the pace! 💜

I enjoyed sailing around collection boots to start my own store of unmatching pairs  The game was really pleasing and the feeling of the ocean with how it rocked the boat was great for the immersion. If there was one thing that I didn't really like it was that I couldn't set the throttle and just control the rudder and changes to the throttle. My hands are weak and prolonged pressing hurts and while it sometimes may be warrented by the game mechanics or setting, it would be more fitting here to set an engine power and let the boat run at that. I got to the end and enjoyed all parts of it, though. For a while I got a bit unlucky with the boots but then at the right time I got the next treasure. Well made! Always a pleasure to see what you come up with.

I absolutely love the presentation! When the magnet minigame popped up on the tablet, I audibly said, "Yes!!!"

So clever. And driving the boat around feels great! Super satisfying controls.

Good job on another great game!

ava-skoog 2021-04-28 09:22

Thank you two!! 😊 Would love to set that up for you, @local-minimum, how would it work? Do you want to avoid holding down for turning too? Could add a "sticky keys" mode where you press once to make them autohold and press again to release, or did you have something different in mind?

local-minimum 2021-04-28 15:19

@ava-skoog turning isn't that important or wasn't for me because I set out in a direction until I saw an X or was about to hit an island. So for me the quickest most important change would be to have W increase and S decrease power/speed and skip the return to zero attraction. The game doesn't really require you to be able to stop, but if it feels needed you could add another key or a button on next to the throttle to stop the engine.

ava-skoog 2021-04-28 17:29

@local-minimum: Done! I found I still preferred to drive the old way, so I made the autothrottle an addition rather than a replacement, using numkeys 123. Hope that works for you! 😊

local-minimum 2021-04-28 17:40

@ava-skoog that sounds like a good compromise!

battlerager 2021-04-28 23:27

Loving the aesthetic and how just the level of polish on display here. It feels very full and realized, with the map, the mechanics for pulling up treasure, the item checklist. Very impressive, given the timeframe.

Sadly I couldn't beat it, as I just couldn't finagle my way out of a very dastardly set of underwater rocks.

Great job on this. It feels like this could be the treasure hunting / traversal mechanics in a bigger, open world game with more stuff going on - basically a well executed slice, that works on its own. Thumbs up!

Wow, beautiful game, just beautiful. Love the art, the sounds of waves hitting the boat, the game mechanic. Awesome, in so little time. Congrats, you should be proud!

ava-skoog 2021-04-29 10:03

Thank you both so much! 🤩 @battlerager, I do hope I didn't manage to make the levels unbeatable sometimes but there aren't many variations and I think I've tested them all 😥 The magnet gets heavier and takes more time to move once you've got something on it, so the trick is to start moving it a bit ahead of time.

phyro 2021-05-02 17:47

It's definetly a Mood category game, but it's awesome in some many ways. I can see the game being quite nice just with the map and deep dive screen, but you pushed it over the top with the actual boat, sea, graphics and physics, with the awesome audio as well. Very nice for a relaxing time, loved it.

slavi 2021-05-02 17:54

Only 10 votes ??? Peoples are blinds ???

psiv 2021-05-02 18:09

Very beautiful game, all the little details and polish really make it feel very refined and immersive, so mush so that I was a little disappointed that the drink in the mug didnt move around/spill as the boat bobbed! Great job!

weirdybeardyman 2021-05-03 13:25

I love this game, such a nice vibe. Really beautiful art- nice shaders, the clouds and sea look great. I love the atmosphere you created with the SFX, the occasional seagull, and the radar (sonar?) display showing schools of fish and the odd whale. Lovely. The radar looks beautiful, and the minigame is simple and fun and everything just feels so intuitive, you really don't need instructions for this game. The autothrottle was a nice quality of life touch. I'm curious how your procedural generation works, I guess the map with the rocks and X spots are procedural? Are the grabber minigames procedural or just picked from a list of premade maps? It seems like a perfect sized game for a game-jam game, and there's noting really better than just sailing the seven seas looking for treasure with your cup of coffee.

ava-skoog 2021-05-04 15:24

Thank you all! 💜 Haven't played a lot of games myself yet so I think the number of ratings are in order but I'm glad you think it deserves more 🤩 Definitely did want to add some steam and stuff to the mug but no time~

@weirdybeardyman, random but not quite procedural, considered some kind of noise first but ended up figuring it would be good enough to just generate a large enough grid and have it loop around, you can't really notice with how few spots you need to find anyway 😊 The minigames are randomised from prebuilt pieces just to be sure they'd always be possible to beat.

weirdybeardyman 2021-05-04 15:32

@ava-skoog nicely done, I definitely had no idea it was looped.

shimonster 2021-05-06 17:30

Super cool game. The art and music were on point. The only thing I would add is more things to do while looking for treasure. I got very bored and almost game up.

oddarock 2021-05-06 18:44

Neat game. I liked the overall mood. The mixing of two gameplays is very interesting, I preferred the grabbing gameaply, the exploration lacked variety and challanges in my opinion. The rendering of the boat and its physics is quite impressive !

arancutter 2021-05-06 18:46

What a charming game. It felt really cozy in the cabin of the ship. The graphics were cute and the music was great. I enjoyed the minigame once I got the hang of it. At first I had a hard time compensating for the weight on the way back up. It was very satisfying bringing the last piece of cargo aboard and realizing it wasn't another boot

Excellent work, I really enjoyed it.

ava-skoog 2021-05-07 09:19

Thank you three!! Agree that the sea is a bit empty, wish I'd had time to add more.

sotsnut 2021-05-08 16:19

Yarrrr! (<-- *Me dropping the booty for the nth time*) Beautiful game! The art is so pretty and the music is soothing with a piratey touch. I also appreciate that you added an accessibility option. :)

cameronpenner 2021-05-08 16:50

Wow! I love the mood, I love the different displays that connect to the game world, I love the color palette. The whales were a great touch! It's hard to be critical since it's so charming, but I do have some feedback. I feel like the bow should have had a toon shaded outline (super nit picky!), but most importantly the pacing felt a bit slow by the end. 15 minutes in getting a boot feels really bad, especially when nothing new has been added to the experience. It was super zen though, and I love this entry so much. The sound effects were actually amazing and completely sold it for me.

ava-skoog 2021-05-09 11:39

A pair of thanks to you! 😊 A shame on the pacing, yeah 😅

bitsandcrafts 2021-05-09 21:02

great game, everything is well done. top.

phoenix-gi 2021-05-10 07:50

Hey! When I was thinking what kind of game I want make for LD48 theme, I had similar idea as your (talking about treasure collection in deep sea), only, becouse I remebered one game for PSP - Ape Academy (I'm sure you should try to play that game also, it has a lot of fun). There is similar mini-game in Ape Academy, where you need catch chest with gold moving your monkey sinking into the depth:) Your game has same idea, but you expanded it by other cool things like sail on the ship and try to collect different types of treasures.. and that calm funny music:) So I enjoyed your game! Good job!:))

ava-skoog 2021-05-11 08:59

Thank you two! c: Haven't played that, thanks for the recommendation!

jordgubben 2021-05-13 15:55

Taking a relaxing boat ride was just what I needed. Art style remind me of either 'Wind waker' or the lighter parts of [Journey to Melonia](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098189/).

ava-skoog 2021-05-14 12:37

Thank you! We came right off of playing Wind Waker into this jam so that influence is kinda blatant 😅

oadt 2021-05-15 09:20

I'm in love with this interface and the way the ocean looks. Also great music and cool that you even integrated a seagull. The gameplay is fun, I would have only wished some more levels when collecting items (somehow I almost only got 2 different levels, where one is just the other level fipped. I saw a third level, but it only showed up 2 or 3 times) and maybe a slightly decreased chance of finding boots  Great entry!

ava-skoog 2021-05-15 14:15

Thank you!
