I'm stuck at the title screen :( I can't press anything or click anything to continue. Pressing 'Esc' only closes the game.

tpsy 2020-10-05 12:29

Neat idea with the looping map. The hamster tanks look weird, in a good way. The aiming is a bit rough so it's hard to hit anything. And the fire-rate could be a bit faster.

elemel 2020-10-05 12:32

@finalforeach Did you press the enter/return key? Which LÖVE version do you have, and which OS?

aligator 2020-10-05 12:33

@finalforeach I had to press Enter/Return to start. But I have no controller so I cannot thest this game in multiplayer.

elemel 2020-10-05 12:39

@tpsy Agree on both aiming and fire rate. Aiming is relative to the orientation of the hamster tank, but should be relative to the camera instead. Didn't have time to fix that. And lowered the fire rate because I wanted players to aim instead of spray, but it ended up being too low. Not enough playtesting... Should be fairly easy to tweak the fire rate if you want too, just grep for "cooldown".

elemel 2020-10-05 12:40

@finalforeach Were you able to play the game? Agree that starting with the enter key may not be obvious.

elemel 2020-10-05 12:43

@aligator Sorry about the lousy single-player experience. Meant to have computer-controlled enemies, but wasn't sure what they would be, and doing multiplayer seemed faster.

finalforeach 2020-10-05 12:58

@elemel Yes the enter key worked. I don't have anyone to do multiplayer with, but the game controls well, and I'd imagine it would be fun to play. I'm glad someone ended up doing a hamster wheel type game for this theme.

elemel 2020-10-05 18:46

@tpsy Fixed aiming and fire rate in version 1.1.

douwe-ravers 2020-10-06 14:53

Hahaha very funny, to bad no-one was online, maybe just add one (or more) random bots to drive around if few people are online. Would have liked to shoot someone hehe.

elemel 2020-10-06 16:32

@douwe-ravers There's only local multiplayer with split screen, no online multiplayer. You can test it if you have a gamepad. Wasn't able to add bots in time, but I totally agree on the need for them.

douwe-ravers 2020-10-06 18:59

@elemel Ahh my bad :D Then I will try and convince my roommates to join ;)

elemel 2020-10-06 20:54

@douwe-ravers That would be pretty awesome!

digital-bacon 2020-10-07 09:19

Interesting idea. Cute graphics and catchy tune. Bit annoying to have to install LOVE before I could play it

elemel 2020-10-07 19:55

@digital-bacon Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback. Added a Windows build.

thiago-nascimento 2020-10-07 22:29

wtf did I just play? Funny, make more!

ukulelefury 2020-10-08 03:14

lol, had to try this out, for the title alone. I like the rotating map idea! It's definitely making me a little dizzy after a while though. I played single player though, so it didn't feel like there was much to do.

elemel 2020-10-08 06:42

@thiago-nascimento Happy that you enjoyed it!. Already working on some postcompo features.

elemel 2020-10-08 06:44

@ukulelefury Yeah, I also got dizzy initially, but got used to the rotation after playing for a while. Then tried shrinking the map, and the dizziness came back.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-09 21:40

Art is ridiculous, BUT, movement is fun as hell. However, a basic UI would made the game better.

elemel 2020-10-10 02:15

@tricky-fat-cat Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback! Can you tell me a little bit more about what kind of UI you would like to see?

fish-sticks 2020-10-10 19:17

This game was super cool and had a lot of fun. The art was really cool and funny and the music was really cool and sounded amazing. Since have no friends I never got the multiplayer experience.

elemel 2020-10-10 20:58

@fish-sticks That's a lot of very unspecific praise, not sure I deserve it. Can you let me know what you liked in particular, and maybe what to improve?

lid 2020-10-11 13:10

This was hilarious AND cursed. Best combo imo. A little nauseating for me after a couple minutes but I have a weak stomach lol GG!

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-11 13:19

@elemel speaking about UI, it would have been great if you had added main menu and pause menu.

szkocka 2020-10-11 14:00

Spent way too much time in this game with my girlfriend. We plan to use it to solve future arguments. 10/10 IGN

capt-theo 2020-10-11 17:58

Hillarious game, hope you will continue working on it. Hamsters power, rawrr

mykola 2020-10-11 18:03

Well that was the most creative and the most hilarious hamster game I've played so far on this jam! The movement feels very good, initially I even thought that it's a Gravity Defied kind of a game where you need to regulate your speed and angle to climb the hills. Really fun when played multiplayer, gamepad controls are very intuitive and convenient. An aim cross would help with shooting though. But overall really fun and well-polished. Pleasant art and funky soundtrack, love the mood! Great job!

elemel 2020-10-11 21:51

@lid Sorry, spinning in 2D always seems to do that. Is it worse in 2D games than in 3D? Or maybe you typically don't spin that much in 3D. Glad to hear that you enjoyed some aspects of it!

elemel 2020-10-11 21:52

@tricky-fat-cat Yeah, menus can be improved, the UI doesn't help the player understand what to do right now.

elemel 2020-10-11 21:53

@capt-theo Thanks for playing! I have made some follow-up changes on GitHub, postcompo branch. Might make a build once voting is over.

elemel 2020-10-11 21:56

@szkocka Really happy to hear that you enjoyed it. Good luck solving those arguments!

elemel 2020-10-11 22:00

@mykola Hamster gamedev ftw! Pretty happy with how the controls turned out, but the rest of the game could use some improvement. Aim cross or some other aiming support is not a bad idea. Right now the player needs to fire and adjust based on the results, which also has its merits.

redhermit 2020-10-16 01:50

Yes, hamster gamedev ftw! I too went the hamster route, yet yours is insanely unique! Love the graphics you did for the hamster.. that face and the look of a perpetual scream of awesome rage coming from it is fantastic. Soundtrack was cool too, and amazing you managed to get multiplayer working so well with a compo entry! I could give constructive feedback.. but it would just mirror some of the above already.. just UI stuff.. but totally understandable for getting this done in 48 hours, great job!

elemel 2020-10-17 22:59

@redhermit Thanks for those kind words! Liked your entry too. I had some ideas about making a physics game with a hamster in a detached wheel like you did, having a cannon attached to the wheel and spinning with it.

kaeveris 2020-10-18 11:31

Very fun game with cool art and music!

lilkrit 2020-10-19 15:30

Ok that game caught me off guard! Very cool physics.

elemel 2020-10-20 08:45

@kaeveris @lilkrit Thanks for playing, and thanks for the positive feedback!

jezzamon 2020-10-21 20:08

Fun game! I played with my housemate and I won 30-26 >:D

I think the one simple tweak I would make would be to make the players and bullets different colors, to make it more clear which bullets you need to avoid. Oh, and it was a little confusing when the bullets hit the ground, I don't think there was a clear enough visual to distinguish the fact that they weren't dangerous anymore. Maybe if they just disappeared in a small explosion animation instead, it'd be easier to keep track of.

elemel 2020-10-22 06:54

@jezzamon Well played! And thanks for the detailed feedback and suggestions on players and bullets, I should address both problems in the postcompo changes.

knatt 2020-10-25 20:51

Fun game! The controls are a lil hard to get used to, but satisfying when you finaly get it. Art style is absolutly cursed, but thats a plus in my eyes
