I enjoyed this game, the lasers were annoying though. I feel like they should be more attracted to your clones so it's a bit easier to get past them. Other than that, it was fun. It fit the theme well and was what I was going to make before coming up what I ended up making.

lamossus 2020-10-05 13:10

Really nice entry! I like the art style, it's simple but still pretty good. The only complaint is that controls felt a bit unresponsive and I got stuck in a slope once.

fpoli 2020-10-05 16:46

@lamossus You are right! I hadn't noticed the unresponsiveness until you mentioned it! It's fixed now. Thanks for playing and for pointing that up! The slope problem is a little more complicated (although I was able to reproduce it). I think I minimized it a lot but it's still there :(

coding4rtist 2020-10-05 17:50

I loved the art style: minimal futuristic and glowy. It's also well polished with all the transitions. Music is a bit repetitive but nice. Overall I really enjoyed the game

trypants 2020-10-06 02:31

Love the art style, love the neon!

fpoli 2020-10-06 02:45

@trypants Thanks! I played your game too, and I was astonished by its beautiful voxel art!

trypants 2020-10-06 02:51

@fpoli Thank you! <3

tyrael 2020-10-06 13:38

The models are really cool! This neon style gives an awesome mood. The controls destroyed the game feel unfortunately. The character feels like he is sliding and I have a QWERTZ keyboard so for me the z key is hard to play with. Otherwise nice entry

ellladee 2020-10-06 16:19

Wow, really love style and idea! Good job

twohands 2020-10-06 16:25

Really nice style and idea, love it

edalbung 2020-10-06 17:02

Woah very nice game!

Here are my feedback:

_Positive points - The neon graphic is really neat - The usage of the theme is very good - The pacing of the difficulty is good - The controls are quite simple and easy to take en hand..

_Negative points - ...however I had some input "lag", I don't why but when I wanted to take the bomb for example, the character didn't take it as soon as I hit the input. - I had some collision issues near walls, edges, and locked doors, which gave me hard time to do precise action.

Overall: Very nice work, keep it up!

detectivelosos 2020-10-07 00:18

I don't really know why, but I finished this game twice in a row. Maybe I thought there was something else in the final room to do to get the "good" ending, or perhaps the looping nature of this Loopy character worked for me so well. This game does a great job of teaching you mechanics without ever telling anything. It was a real moment of discovery for me when I finally understood what was happening.

On a contrast it's a bit sad that most of the levels are so straight forward without really any puzzle element in them at all. For me the only difficult level was the one with a bomb, but at the same time it was the most interesting one until I figured that you can just throw the bomb back to the beginning and grab it in the next cycle. Until then I tried one strategy after another before settling on the following: getting hit by a bullet on the first cycle, then on a second cycle kiting the turret's aim away and getting hit by the second bullet to clear a path for the third cycle, and only on the third cycle I tried to grab a bomb and run away. But sadly this didn't work because I didn't have enough time to place it and finish the level. So yeah, when I finally discovered that I just forgot about a throw button, this level transformed from a real puzzle with subversion of expectations into a simple straightforward purely mechanical task to complete.

As for the ideas that may help develop this concept further it would be really cool if there were puzzles that require you to do multiple things with a same character. For example you stand on a switch and open a door, wait a bit for the future you to pass through, then go to another switch to open another door for yet another future you to go through. Right now most of the puzzles are designed in such a way that the characters have nothing else to do except wait after they did one and only thing that was required of them. Another idea is to remove the fail state entirely and have you loop back to the first cycle after you finished with the last one. Or maybe even have an ability to switch back and forth between the cycles.

So yeah, it's a cool little puzzle game and I haven't really played anything quite like it except maybe The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. So there is a whole huge unexplored area of design possibilities if you wish to develop it further.

@detectivelosos Wow! Great review! I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and that, for you, I achieved the part of teaching the mechanics without telling anything. I was really frightened about that part haha. I'm planing on expanding this game with more interesting puzzles, so you can see this as the "tutorial part" in which you learn the basic mechanics. I wish I had time to make a more complicated level, but I also wanted everybody to reach the end (at least for this jam). Thanks for taking the time for playing and giving your feedback. Stay posted for future updates! I'm planning 20 levels at least in the full game.

dani-tufeld 2020-10-07 07:05

Really Cool game!!! i alredy seen this concept in some other games in the jam, but yours nailed it, great mechanics, theme lots of fun!!!

shortbread 2020-10-07 08:16

Super nice neon graphics and the walking animation is hilarious! Great work

etrealjunior 2020-10-07 10:18

I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection

miklou 2020-10-07 11:44

Really nice, i love this moody mood of glowy lights. Good idea ! I loved it

coderaurus 2020-10-07 15:20

Love the mood that music and art style create together. Theme was used well. I think there could've been more levels using movable blocks and bombs.

fpoli 2020-10-07 16:42

@coderaurus! Glad you liked it! The fact that you ask for more levels encourages me to expand this into a full game! Thanks!

@miklou Thanks! Glowy lights rock!!!!

@etrealjunior Thanks! I played your game and it's very addicting! Well done!

@shortbread Haha, I love how that walking animation ended up too. Actually, I knew a person who walked almost exactly like that. Thanks for the thumbs up!

@dani-tufeld Yeah! I played other games from people who had a similar idea. I'm happy to know that you liked it!

fpoli 2020-10-07 16:47

@edalbung Thanks for your review! Sorry for responding this late! How sad that you experienced that input lag problems, other users experienced it too, but unfortunately I am unable to notice it in order to try to fix it :(. I think eventually i'm going to find out what's going on. I'm glad that you enjoyed the game apart from this flaws.

twobitjen 2020-10-07 21:00

Cool idea. The graphics were clean and polished looking. the laser levels were a fun puzzle to figure out how to beat

nitero 2020-10-08 14:33

Pretty cool! I see you had a similar idea to me, letting the last level loop back to the first. But since this game has a hint of story, I think the aspect of a meta loop could be explored further

preda 2020-10-09 12:32

I like the graphics and I like seeing how one of me throws a bomb to the other just for the other to throw it to me. It a pretty fun game!

justcamh 2020-10-10 14:25

Heyo, I played your game on stream! Here's the vod if you wanna rewatch; https://www.twitch.tv/videos/765804766

Thanks for submitting your game!

fpoli 2020-10-10 17:26

@justcamh Thanks for playing! I was sawing your stream from the start, but it started to get late, so I had to go to sleep :(. I'm glad that you beat the game and that I was able to see you play it today!

Your comments were really helpful!!!

One thing to note: You don't have to wait the whole loop to end, I was suffering for you when I saw the recording and it was too late to help you!!! You can actually kill the character (with K) and you're still standing on switches, so the loop ends inmediately (although you kill a poor innocent loopy).

I'm working on expanding the game with more puzzles, but I wanted to keep it simple for the jam so that many people could beat it quick and move on to other games. My idea is to make at least 20 puzzles, in which the bomb mechanic is going to be used (hopefully a lot because I hated coding it). You're right about the fact that there's no real indicator that you had beaten the game. I wanted to make it look like an infinite loop, but the truth is that an endgame screen wouldn't have hurt.

Also, I should have opted out of the "Humour" category, my bad... but it's my first time in Ludum Dare, so, lesson learned!

Thanks for all your feedback!

egawag 2020-10-18 22:47

Graphics super retro Tron -- in a great way. I struggled a bit with the lasers and fine control. But it was very playable.

lyje 2020-10-24 14:35

One of my favourites. Everything's great!
