Challenging game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/4GNiWeaqklM

I made a post-jam edit! I added "space" and "enter" as keys that are considered for restarting the level/game. As this is just a quality-of-life enhancement, I don't think I'm breaking the spirit of LD by doing so.

I'm not normally one for 'trial and error' type games, but managing to protect 'it' was strangely satisfying. A simple but nice game. My one complaint is that I'm not given enough time to understand each level as it begins, failure is guaranteed if I'm not already holding in a direction before each reset, but it's not so bad since each level is so small. I'd like at least a second to react to the new environments, if possible! Completed all 9 levels, and felt satisfied after all was said and done. Good job!

Nice work! It was very hard to play but I get the idea.

Very simple game, but the graphics and audio felt a bit too simple, however the core mechanics of the game were interesting and unique! With some fine-tuning to the controls I think it would be extremely good, but I did enjoy it quite a bit nonetheless - good job!

A nice entry. Only the music in the first few levels is slightly annoying, especially that hissing sound. That complaint about not enough time is pointless, learning by failing is the more fun way to play.

Has a great ideia, but i think its too hard to play. Btw, good job!

Pretty tough game, but it never got that frustrating, which is a hard balance to strike. I wish you got a second longer in the beginning of the level to get into position - the main part I didn't like was that you had to be holding down the correct arrow buttons right at the start of the level and didn't have much time to adjust. Overall though, successful game!

Really enjoyable. One suggestion would be to add a second after each reset to re-calibrate your brain.

I like it. Wait that's a pun. Anyways I really liked this game! Though at times it was 'Mildly Infuriating'. But I really enjoyed playing it! (:face_palm: another pun...) I liked the look of the ball and the background. I really don't have anything else to say this is a very nice little game!

sli 2020-04-22 21:40

I protected it. Fun and challenging.

fupi 2020-04-22 21:42

I really like this idea. Though, I really feel like I'm being cheated when I push the it. Sometimes it seems no matter how hard I push it, it doesn't switch direction, usually when I'm walking in diagonal. Also I wish there was an instant reset button for the later very difficult levels. This is where I quit: https://i.imgur.com/AoibzcS.png

That was a fun game I found it challenging and a bit frustrating. In all it made me want to try it just one more time. I like the different take you did on a chaperone style game. Guiding the ball through the levels and putting yourself in harms way to block traps was cool. Good job!

jallowmam 2020-04-22 21:49

I really enjoyed protecting "it", in spite of all of the things that could destroy it. Having a little more time at the beginning of a level for the player to start moving might make certain levels less frustrating. I liked the simple controls, that you really built up. It was an execution of the theme! Great work!

mathurin 2020-04-22 22:02

Finally someone else using the theme literally! Yours is keep **it** alive and mine is keep **it alive**.

So about the graphics, make sure all the art is in the same style, for example here the player is in pixel art but the "it" is not. It will lead to a better consistency in the art and will probably look better :)

About the game, it's cool however the physics is a bit strange to manage (it's probably what makes the game very challenging. For the level beginning you can make the "it" roll only when the player has moved. Keep it up!

daichifob 2020-04-23 20:28

That was super fun! The levels get increasingly difficult that makes it challenging but fun. I like that the block looks sad when it is destroyed XD

justmars 2020-04-29 20:34

Cool concept, but a bit lacking in the execution. The "it" should be either delayed a bit, slowed down OR (in my opinion the best solution) make the player start ahead of "it" so that you don't have to react in a split second or so.

Graphics were quite simple, but they did got their job done. It was easy to decipher what objects where the enemies, which ones were bouncy and so on, but otherwise the visuals were quite bland. Audio side was a bit better, at least in my opinion. Good that you got some music in the background + sound effects, they help a lot.

The gameplay worked as it should, not much to complain other than that the player movement felt a bit slippery (a bit "rigidbody" like if you what I mean). As the game was made in Unity, you could probably try to fix it by adjusting the physics material, rb component or the movement method, but you probably know that already, as you seem to have made some games in the past too.

I am glad you made a WebGL build tho; it's really convenient for a jam so people can access you game easier. Lots of people only have desktop versions available, so it was ofc a nice + :)

Quite a fine entry, keep em up guys!

I saved it. Very simple yet challenging game. At some points it frustrates you a great deal. But loved it.

I agree with @justmars that it should be delayed or slow a little.

@fupi *spoilers* that is the last level.

dreamcastgh0st 2020-05-12 04:44

Simple game, but I really liked the concept. Trying to protect a bouncing ball is a really fun idea. I wish the ball had more... agency of its own? More mechanics that effected it, really. Like more bouncy surfaces, or gravity. As it is now, the controls are a little bit finnicky, and it can be frustrating that the ball moves before you get a chance to react at the start of the level. I would love to see this concept expanded on a little! It can be hard to do so much in a short weekend time limit, and I think you could make something extra cool with a little more time.
