Great concept. Plays very well as a relaxing mobile game. It needs a bit more challenge and variation, as it's pretty easy to go indefinitely.

justalocalhero 2020-04-20 09:17

Such a fun game. A ton of potential to be expanded: adjacency bonuses, different shape and size crops, maybe deckbuilding elements.

Took some time to nail down the mechanics, but it was fun figuring it out.

Wish I could have seen the max size of the crops after they were planted.

Some crops didn't seem to work in some tiles and I wasn't able to figure out why.

The art style is charming.

Really impressed.

johnjoemcbob 2020-04-20 09:19

Really interesting card game! I like the different crop requirements Well done!

seriouslycrunchy 2020-04-20 09:26

I really like this! Unfortunately the problem with the randomness of the cards is that you always need either water or the harvest tool. So it can be quite easy to lose without doing anything wrong. If there was a way to get back life (maybe by having a completely full bed?) then it would feel a bit less unfair. Still, a really good set of ideas.

lcstark 2020-04-20 09:47

Nice and relaxing! It takes a while to figure out the rules, but it was a time well spent. I can see this being expanded into a really good game. As for the randomness, I agree with @SeriouslyCrunchy, it can be too unfair at times. Perhaps the plants shouldn't die instantly, but rather have something like hitpoints? Each turn without a water takes away a hitpoint, until the plant dies. When you harvest plant with fewer than max hitpoints, it gives you fewer points (or the other way around - harvesting fully healthy plants gives you a bonus).

Brilliant. Nice and relaxing game, very enjoyable, fits the theme well! Audio was spot on. I had a problem placing crobs on Fertile Soil a couple of times so I don't know if they game thought they were Dirt or ?? Wonderful.

loig 2020-04-20 10:00

Very relaxing! I spent quite some time playing it as soon as I understood the mechanics. Maybe a bit easy at the moment, it would benefit from levels of increasing difficulty (with some types of card removed or limited, with other shapes of field, etc).

singleshoe 2020-04-20 10:49

@justalocalhero I originally wanted to add more deck building elements (starting with displaying your draw and discard piles) and complex mechanics, but ran out of time. There's also more UI feedback I wanted to add to address the lack of info once crops are placed. Really glad you liked it!

@seriouslycrunchy @lcstark Funnily enough I actually went in a different direction for a while. You had to play the 3 cards each turn, but you could also draw a hand of just tools with no crops to use them on, so you were stuck. I changed it so you drew up to two tools per turn, however that made tools so rare that it made the game extremely hard, so I reverted that and added the skip turn functionality. Having a way of regaining hearts and adding hitpoints to the crops sounds like great ideas too!

@liam I'm so glad you liked the audio, it was the thing I was most anxious about making myself. Ended up going outside and leaving my phone recording for a while haha. Is it possible that the problem was due to trying to place a crop next to a full bed of crops of the same type? That's something that I feel the game doesn't explain as well as it should.

@mincho @johnjoemcbob @loig Thanks a lot for your comments! I'm glad you liked the game!

liam 2020-04-20 10:54

@singleshoe Ah, I expect that was it! Sounds like it went through a bunch of well thought out iterations, really love this one and will play it a bunch more!

khopa 2020-04-20 16:33

Very relaxing game, after playing a bunch of stressful survival game, it is a welcome change of pace for me.

I managed to get 379 points on my best run. Then I got too greedy and died. I also lost a few health points by accidentaly not spending all my cards. I know there is a warning, but maybe a confirmation popup would be nice to avoid doing mistakes.

I like the graphics, and the background sounds, and it fits the theme really well.

Great job !

singleshoe 2020-04-20 18:34

@khopa Thanks a lot! That's a way higher score than what I've ever gotten, very well done! I've also found that there's little warning when you're about to die (be it because of a crop dying or skipping the turn). Something worth adding for a full release :)

khopa 2020-04-20 18:40

@singleshoe I was very lucky on the draw, i ended up with multiple sprinkler early on, and then it was easy to get going without letting any crops die. On my others attempts, i struggled to get more than 30/40 points.

maumau 2020-04-20 22:21

The fact that nothing is rushing you feels so laid back and relaxing, more so after coming from testing a bunch of games that do exactly the opposite. I like this, would love to see what it could evolve into.

lanalux 2020-04-21 03:05

Ah this was really cool, I wanted to play it longer! Would love to see more. :)

zwodahs 2020-04-21 13:49

Love the concept and really fun. May not have play far enough (200pts+) but I think it needs to be a bit more difficult. Don't seems like there are other ways to lose health unless I am missing something. Overall quite fun. Please tag me if you increase the difficulty. I am a sucker for card games and would enjoy more in my life :D, especially one that does not involve fighting monster.

spthiel 2020-04-21 16:22

Super chill! First game was quite challenging cuz I didn't know what to do and second game I stopped playing at Turn 117 with 541 points :grimacing:

Are you supposed to be able to place outside the boundry?

singleshoe 2020-04-21 17:50

@maumau @lanalux Thanks a lot for checking it out, I'm so glad people are liking it!

@zwodahs @spthiel Thanks a lot the feedback! The game definitely lacks difficulty at the moment (and you can also get a bad start that guarantees losing) so there's a lot of room to improve just there.

I had a great time building it and got really into the game idea. Given that plus the warn reception it's gotten here I am planning on transforming this into a full game. I'll post updates on itch.io, so follow me there if you want to check it out once it's ready/in progress :)

singleshoe 2020-04-21 18:06

@spthiel oh and yeah, you aren't supposed to haha. Originally I only had tiles in the center area and the rest was default grey. In the last hour before submitting I added the fence and wanted to make the rest dirt too, so I extended the tiles there, not realizing that given the card logic it meant you could prepare the soil there too haha

pierre-cilluffo 2020-04-21 18:08

I like the idea of deck building to grow our plants. But once you understand the trick, it becomes very easy. You can maybe add bonuses or events sometimes to make the game less "linear".

stanleygray 2020-04-21 18:20

I'm a sucker for card games, so had to try this. It has a nice pleasant/relaxed feel to play - almost Zen-like. The core idea and the card designs are well conceived/executed. My only gripe is similar to what others mentioned about the luck/difficulty (early game = hard, late game = easy), but that sort of thing is expected for a jam game. At a couple points it seemed like I lost a heart for no reason (maybe when my first sprinkler ran out of water?), but then it stopped happening, so maybe I was just missing something.

singleshoe 2020-04-22 19:24

@pierre-cilluffo @stanleygray yeah you're definitely right, the balance is way off in this version. And yeah, the it lacks a bit of feedback to let you know when you're about to lose a heart. It's sometimes hard to spot a crop with a single water among others that have multiple.

Thanks a lot for your feedback, and I'm really happy that you liked it :)

kirbloid 2020-04-24 01:54

The graphics go a long way to communicate a lot of info clearly, and agree on the comfy card-game feel, as it led to having to make tough decisions on especially the early turns. Also I love Godot and it's great to see more games made with it, as it's perfect for jams.

elmo 2020-04-26 10:59

cool game, really liked that you could add water to sprinklers.

frogravity 2020-04-26 11:23

Nice game! It took me a while to understand how it works, but was fun afterwards. You can, however, survive almost indefinitely by slowly piling up sprinklers, watering them instead of the plants, and planting as few plants as possible. Other than that, it was great!

karreg 2020-04-26 15:02

Nice ! We played during 1 hour my girlfriend and I, we really enjoyed your game :) Congrats !

candlesan 2020-04-27 01:53

This is really cool! I love the mechanics on this.

Like: Making decisions about what to play. The geometry thought process that goes into sprinklers. The cards were easy to understand. I liked having to do a trade-off between grouping like vegetables together vs. the price. Not knowing whether I would be able to harvest or not added some risk.

Suggestions: Wasn't clear how the sprinkler chooses what to water when there wasn't enough water to go around. As a gameplay prototype though this was a great job and it's really easy to imagine that with art and polished animations it could be super!

olewis 2020-05-12 17:55

A pretty chilll game to play once you get the hang of it. Great job!
