Really well done platforming mechanics. Never been able to create juicy wall jumps like these before.

frank-gevaerts 2019-10-07 13:30

Very well done! The sounds and graphics work well, and the puzzles are tricky enough to be challenging yet not too tricky to figure out.

Very nice walljumping, camera could be a little zoomed out.

quite a nice litte game you made there :)

I think you could have put more focus on the collecting goals aspect! You may have spent too much time making a platformer.. but really solid controls and pretty fun game!

theomaniacal 2019-10-10 02:12

Nice work! The lack of air drag took some adjusting to, but the platforming felt polished overall.

This was an excellent game. Fun to play and you put a ton of thought in training the player. This is how you do a video game, heh. Great job!

Just a note for anyone interested in the source code, I'm planning to continue working on this so I cut a branch called "ld45" which will be what I submitted for the compo. I can't edit the repo link so if you go there you'll want to switch to that branch.

Nice game, it's interesting how you incorporated the theme into collecting goals. I wasn't able to clear the first pit and got stuck trying to get out of it and clear the jump back. Once you're in the pit you move so fast it's hard to manage to get out. Overall I think this was a really creative entry, nice work.

mikeality 2019-10-10 02:28

@don-fouts Thanks for the feedback! A lot of people have actually been getting stuck in the pit which definitely surprised me. Once down there with the goal, you can double jump up the stairs to the right, and then you want to do a running long jump to get across. It's definitely a bit tricky to do with the increased speed and I'm planning to modify it for future versions.

Great game! Simple, and effective! i like the idea of using different goals to reach points. A bit more of sound like a background could help in the game

bethanyyy 2019-10-12 04:06

Nicely done!! I think the idea fits the theme really well, and I really like that you have a thorough tutorial, which is often left out for a gamejam game. And I like the little sound effects too. Good job!

The beginning made me think about the nature of inspiration. I like the stars as quest objects that you can pick up and drop but I don't think I was clever enough to get out of the pit others have mentioned, I tried tossing the star and jumping on it, going without it and jumping over the gap holding the star for speed. The seamless tutorial was very well done and the character is nice to watch in action being just a pair of pupils! It's cute.

I enjoyed this game, it fits with the theme quite well and was fun to play. I thought that for the most part the platforming mechanics felt really good to play, and I liked the concept of goals giving you advantages and disadvantages, all of which were required to win. All of the levels felt well thought out, and were fun to puzzle through. When I first started I found myself getting stuck on walls, or more accurately, edges, as I was trying to jump up them, but that is really the only issue that I had. The graphics were clean and worked well for the game, and the sound effects were on point. I also loved the reveal at the end, that made me laugh. Great LD entry, I wish you luck taking this further!

I like the goals mechanic, it reminds me of the card game Fluxx a bit. Overall really well put together, though the camera was a little glitchy for me in the WebGL build. Not sure if that's something you can fix. Good job, though!
