Good job. I had a lot of fun!
Really Nice game. Well polished, good controls! All the in game feedback you receive on everything you do almost makes me think this isn't a LD game. Interesting character, weird enemies, very well polished art, surprisingly good soundtrack and sounds. The only problem I found was the jump, which works really weirdly, but besides that, this was a really good and fun game to play.
It's pretty fun but it's hard for me to play platformers that focus on concentration. For example, the 3rd lvl has a lot of water so that basically neutralizes any stat bonuses. Jumping out of visibility adds to the difficulty. The graphics and audios are very nostalgic for me and reminds me of my NES days. I levels were well-thought out and I appreciate the common keys for movement. Really feels great to stumble upon a secret location :)
Nice Mario-style platformer. Even with hidden bonus room :). The mechanic with the doubling cost for better jump & health worked well, health is very useful there. Couldnt figure out how to open the locked door at the end of the second level though. Music was nice and fitting. Good job!
@bootlegJoe I'm glad you think so. I've been doing LDs for a few years now, and mostly platformers. Once you get a good code-base the work you need to do to get a basic game is really small (and yes, you can use any pre-existing code provided you're willing to share the source code), which leaves more time for polish.
The music I made with Caustic which is great for making stuff quickly. I was lucky this time that I hit on a good 40s loop that I tweaked for each theme, previous games haven't been so lucky :) (and the boss music is just the main menu music at 160BPM and the instruments modified)
If there's ever a theme where I can't make a platform game though, I'm in a pickle :)
@zondarg There are 3 hidden crystals in the level. The first one is in a box at the start, the next one is hidden in one of the bonus rooms and the third one is in a box near the end.
Cool game! I love the death music. I found all the insta-death pits :)
This might be the best game I played so far! (On the jam I mean) But still here's some criticism: -Some jumps are just too far appart, there's only som much you can expand the jump distance untill it becomes teedious. -Sometimes it's pretty hard to figure out what you need to do to get to a platform for me it was level 3 on the beggining with the platform over the raising and lowering spikes. Everything else is awesome!
Fun platformer, i enjoyed it well done
Pretty good feel to the platform controls. Visuals remind me of commander keen.
The intro, although funny and goofy, felt a bit long. Or maybe it's just me being impatient... I was very eager to start playing the game, and still I didn't want to miss any dialogue... Maybe it could've been portioned out a bit?
Also, it's confusing to spend lots of lives on upgrades prior to even knowing what kind of game it is... (Are jumps important? What kind of enemies will I face? Will I ever get the chance to upgrade again?) Maybe have the player walk through some basic level before the first upgrade screen is presented. I think some megaman game does this really well.
Otherwise, cool game :) Had fun!
Great fun, love the early 90s aesthetic. Controls are easy to use but I did find the game pretty difficult.
Once again impressed by the amount of work done in such a tiny period of time.
The game is good and classic, strong bases and a fun system of collecting stuff. If there wasn't this amount of levels, music, environments and level designs, I would have put mroe thinking about how the controls feels, they are pretty linear and there is not a lot of velocity but honestly, for such a long experience in gameplay, I do not care. I think it's fun to just being able to work aroun such detailes places with a lot of shading and a system based on power ups.
The only thing I would say is if you work on unity and are using physic based movement, put interpolate mode on the rigidbody 2d so the character doesn't get blury when moving, I can explain how it works if you want but I don't even know if you used Unity...
Also there is risk and reward, you had the time to put people in these dilemma, here's the situation I particulary enjoyed :

Should I get the coin or do not take the risk ? Maybe it's a secret door...
Fuck it I have to try !
@lukas-tamayo Thanks for the feedback, but no, I'm not using Unity's physics for the player (I am for the pick ups though), and I'm not sure what you mean by 'blurry', I'm using the pixel-perfect camera - there should be no blur at all.
Fun game with solid controls. The only complaint that I have is that hitting the blue blocks isn't consistent
Amazing Mario clone. Loved to find secrets at the same place. Well done! Hard game and pretty challenging even if not matching the theme 100%.
God Job friend, the retro style make me smile. I really apreciate the upgrades sistem. the fact that i can choice between abilities is so nice. Congratz!!!
Nice game, level design is great :D Also I like your use of the theme (upgrade system). The retro music and graphics are nice, too. Good job!
Quite a big amount of levels for a jam game! Thanks for providing a web version!
