Can we get the source code please?

oddballdave 2019-04-29 07:19

@ace17 The source is the DitR.unitypackage on the itch.io download page :8ball:

ace17 2019-04-29 07:24

Thanks for the addition!

superchihuahua 2019-04-29 09:29

The PC version is crashing after some time :( I've test with different resolutions, but still a crash when the first sound file loads. If I have my back against the main area and walks backwards, it plays the first sound but crashes when loading the second

Update: The webgl version is working and I managed to finish the game!

oddballdave 2019-04-29 09:33

Thanks for the info @superchihuahua I'll look into it. In the mean time I've uploaded a webGL version which might give better results. :8ball:

That was a beautiful game, thanks for sharing. The simple (but somewhat genius) art style combined with the sounds was very effective here, great storytelling.

ehrest 2019-04-29 16:29

Thank you for sharing your story. Every elements really clicked together and I was caught up in the narration from start to end. Even the moment where I lost myself in the fog was on point because, when i was back, a little light was born in the world.

onnofal 2019-04-29 16:29

It really catches the eye.

Still need to admit I did not finished and gave up. I've been playing WebGL, experienced poor performance and having frustration from vertical mouse opposite to what I am used to, when I've stuck at one moment I've just lost patience.

Anyway I immediately got attracted and enjoyed the style and atmosphere. Autobiographical element makes it more than just a game.

(Linux version crashes when playing first sound same as the Win one reported before)

It's an experience. A work of art. The atmosphere, the visuals, the story, the mood, everything is amazing. Edit: I easily get lost in the fog tho.

nchalakov 2019-04-30 11:34

I like this game and the graphics are awesome.

randdir 2019-04-30 11:39

Really nice art pal and interesting approach of the theme. Also love the ambiance. Keep it up !

delpes 2019-04-30 11:46

Very well done! Very much like the style and how you let us take part in your history.

I am currently stuck with a ring ( i suppose) in my hands. Yet have to find the one to give it to ( i only see a graveyard and a scarecrow.

oddballdave 2019-04-30 12:13

@delpes If in doubt point the crosshair at everything until something flashes. If you're still a bit stuck

!>plant the ring in the patch of earth on the opposite side to the statue.

brigart 2019-04-30 17:22

It is masterpiece.

z0rlog 2019-04-30 19:55

That's what I call art. Outstanding one!

meursault 2019-04-30 21:46

Thank you for sharing this story! The visuals are fantastic.

voidfishing 2019-04-30 22:17

wow, thank you for sharing this - the art and audio go really well with the storytelling, and they did a great job of guiding me through the whole story; even when I got lost in the fog, it only added to tone of the whole game. this is really well-done!

seriar 2019-04-30 22:18

The mood and atmosphere are nicely crafted. This was a very deep expirience and story.

Thanks for letting me have this experience. It's a very beautifully made little game. I don't think I got to the very end but spoiler (start row with `!>`):

!> I had something like a book in my hand but couldn't find anything to interact it with. It also seemed like it was always highlighting itself.

First time I played I got stuck on the piece you helped with above. I think I tried to highlight the thing the first time but I must have missed the cursor. So it might be that the cursor could do with some clearer or adaptive outline to help guide the player.

Another possible improvement:

!> First when cutting the grass I happened to be facing the back of the first couple of graves. Perhaps the graves could orient themselves to face towards where the player is cutting them up from.

The rain was very beautiful. That's what pulled me in. I stayed for the whole experience.

oddballdave 2019-05-01 08:56

@local-minimum I never knew the site had actual spoiler tags. Thanks for that info. I know the 'puzzles' are a bit obtuse so thanks for persevering. You were right near the end. If you'd like to finish

!>**Carry** the pixel, yes it's a pixel, you got from the egg out into the fog away from all those events of the past, and into, hopefully, a bright and wonderful future.

silkworm-sweatshop 2019-05-01 22:13

Well damn.. Quite the journey. I did make it to the end but there were a couple times I got stuck for a while which was a bit frustrating because I really wanted to finish it. I think a bit more direction would be good and better for the pacing.

oivin-f 2019-05-02 01:05

The most polished one I've played this LD. Powerful stuff. If anything to critique, I feel that for one, the puzzles weren't very intuitive, the character movement was a bit slow, and the mouse was redonkolously sensitive (had to manually turn my DPI as far down as it goes and still had light speed mouse movement). Great, great work!

jjjjason 2019-05-05 03:41

Honestly I think I'm OK with the relative obtuseness of the puzzles. I don't think they're *really* too fargone, and it works excellently thematically.

It's sort of perverted to critique this as a game, I think you made exactly what you had meant to make and it comes across. Thanks for sharing.

angiekatneko 2019-05-07 02:57

Absolutely brilliant. I loved the narrator's voice and the story was very emotional. Very well done, congrats!

franklins-ghost 2019-05-11 12:30

This was a beautiful, poetic experience. Could relate to some of the things playing out which made this such a relatable experience. The mood was really well set with the graphics, audio and style working amazingly well together. I did struggle at first with the puzzles but once I got them, they started making more sense and I was able to figure out most of the later ones without needing the clues. Thanks for sharing this and allowing us to play through the experience.

ava-skoog 2019-05-21 14:10

Debated whether I would be able to play this when I heard the first lines of the narrative. I too lost my own father followed by a series of others after having barely dealt with death before then, and it wasn't actually until going over some old moving boxes just a couple of weeks ago that I saw a picture of him for the first time in over ten years. So my fullest sympathies. Decided to push on anyway.

I'm impressed. Not sure I'd dare to tackle something so personal in a game jam out of worry that I wouldn't be able do it justice, but you did very well. The combination of graphics and audio and overall setting makes for a very strong atmosphere, and of course the narration, I'm assuming done by yourself, makes it all that more personal.

Difficult to say too much other than that. It was touching, and it wouldn't really feel right to delve into nitpicky criticisms given the higher importance of the subject matter, but I don't really have any either, to be honest. It's very well put together and tight, just like a jam game should be, and all the elements are there. Very good work. I'm glad I played it.

eamon-kane 2019-08-03 15:51

Very touching piece, great that narration was part of this. I am an indie dev/writer, but first and foremost I work as an actor/voice actor and do voice direction and casting as well. If you're interested in having more voice be a part of future projects, please get in touch. You can listen to my demo reel here.
