Good job!
Nice work here, my only problem (small to be honest) is with power-ups that their effect is not as visible at the beginning. However, it doesn't destroy experience. It's a pretty fun game!
It's quite challenging provide fruits to your family while Nezahualcoyotl wants more and more. Very cool game!!
Great Graphics , Cool camera shake. Fun to Play.
Nice graphics! The physics are solid and the gameplay is quick phased. My one complaint is that I hate using the spacebar for jumping (so loud).
The art and the sound are incredibly polished, and the gameplay is really fun too! Great job!
Thank you to everyone who has played our game and left feedback so far! We really appreciate it!
@sharpyfile Do you mean that you don't feel the power-ups have an impact in the early game, or that it's hard to tell that you have them?
@donitz Honestly I never really gave the choice of jump button a second thought, but now that you mention it, it's super easy for us to add a bunch of other options. Thanks for pointing it out!
@alph Thanks for your kind words! I was a little sad to have to opt out of audio ratings because we didn't make any of the music or audio clips, but I did spend a fair amount of time picking them out, so I'm really glad to hear you appreciated how we put them all together.
This game deserves way more attention! It's so cool how after a while it becomes this act of spinning plates where you try to balance everything. I also felt moraly compelled to give as many fruits as possible to the family, poor Tenoch XD
Nitpicking, I felt the jump was a little too fast, some times I couldn't double jump just because I wasn't fast enough to press jump mid air
Simple concept. think it works pretty well. The player moved too fast for me making it difficult to control but I think that was you objective after all.
Way to go. That is fun. I was able to get is a pretty good flow and just really enjoy the movement. Not sure if 150 to Chantico and 110 to Netzahualcoyotl is good but I felt like I was doing well. The double jump was too weak for me, just never felt like I went much higher than the normal jump. I really didn't find it useful when I had it. But it didn't matter because the basic jump was very consistent feeling and I was always able to get up the platforms. Also, music and art were great as well.
One of the most fun I have had in the whole jam. 3 things I would add.
1 - A bar for the family and for the god. 2 - Voice Acting 3 - Counter for the fruits and your previous highscore
Great game! It's quite challenging to provide fruits to both sides but it's a good balance. I wish sacrificing your family has a direct effect on character beside the emotional way. I really like the music. It keeps you in the game with its fast pace. And about that screenshake, it's very cool :)
Simple but pretty fun! Graphics and animations are really nice, audio is great as well. Love the humor :) Solid entry!
This is a pretty fun game. The dude moves pretty fast and sometimes when I want to jump I would slip right off. Took me a while to get used to it but overall nice job!
Super fun game. I played it for a good while. I think I got 198 fruit sacrificed. Occasionally, I would give some fruit to the villagers, but the speed boost would only last one sacrifice, so I stopped doing that. The art style is killer here. Great job with that too!
Thanks again to everyone who has played, rated and commented! We've reached the rating threshold and can breathe easy for a little while.
@danielclarc Thank you so much! And I agree, the inputs required to pull off an effective double or triple jump at triple speed are quite demanding. For the post-jam version I'll consider lowering the gravity slightly and decreasing Tenoch's base speed accordingly to make sure he still jumps the same relative distance.
@vimlark Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Each extra jump was meant to let you skip one platform vertically, but as I mentioned above the inputs for that are quite demanding. I'm really glad that the base movement served as a solid fallback and you had fun with that regardless. (For the record, that looks like a pretty good score to me!)
@publicidadeba That's awesome to hear, and those are all great suggestions! We tried as much as possible to reflect the game state in the environment to remove the need for a HUD, but I totally agree we needed something to indicate your score during the game. And a high score tracker would be awesome, I'll add that to the post-jam version!
The constant changing platform location was nice to make the game different but added to the difficulty. A lot of times it was difficult to get to the needed fruit with just the single jump. Still great music and artwork and game idea.
This was one of the few games I played that wasn't obviously made in a game jam on a time crunch. That being said I didn't entirely agree with some of the gameplay decisions such as losing upgrades between sacrifices or the very low horizontal speed. Due to those choices I never felt that I had time to waste giving food to the family because a couple slips would kill me, but when I had extra time after collecting fruit or the god wanted a very simple fruit, there was no reason to go get any upgrades. Overall great game!
@wiredoverload We found a bug after submission that caused Tenoch's horizontal speed to scale inversely with framerate, so if your monitor has a high refresh rate and Unity is trying to match it, that would explain why you're experiencing "very low horizontal speed". If that's the case, perhaps you could try setting your refresh rate to 60Hz and seeing if your experience is different. When running at 60fps the game should be very fast-paced, and if you're platforming well you should have time to make multiple loops back to Chantico before having to make an offering to Netzahualcoyotl.
Thanks for playing!
@wiredoverload I've updated the game to fix the framerate issue without requiring you to change your monitor's refresh rate and added a changelog to make a note of it. If you do get time to try the game again, please let me know if that addresses your problem.
@dk5000p If you were having trouble with just the single jump, it's possible this update will help you too.
Thank you both for your feedback!
Really enjoyed the overall mood and graphics was a stand out. Very Impressed that you managed to make this game within the time limit.
Hope you develop a post jam version of this game.
Nice game! The wife could get angry as well if you do not feed your family enough.
I tried really hard to give her a rare piece of fruit, I had no luck unfortunately :-)
That was stressful! But quite an enjoyable game. I liked that there was a story element to it and the humor was on point. As others already pointed out, some kind of counter would be cool even if I think the "anger" from the god was a good way to show how urgent it was (if the music didn't already provide that). And I didnt really know how much I lost for giving the gods fruit to the family. Good job!
@evbo that update definitely fixed it, and it's pretty much an entirely new game. Usually I'll switch to my non 144Hz monitor when a game seems to run too fast, but this is the first game I've played where a higher refresh rate meant something went much slower. The game plays so much better now, thanks for fixing it!
I loved it! The game plays really smoothly and the conflict between pleasing the two parties is very tense. The screenshake and reddening is amazing. So much better than a simple bar like you'd see in a lot of other games. The graphics, of course, are amazing. I like the clean look.
I think the jump was maybe a little fast. For me, it was hard to adjust to that. Other than that, everything about this game was quite perfect! I had a lot of fun.
Great job!
Music and sound were really good choices, too!
The art is really nice and the game looks great. But the screen shake is way over the top and the game play is too hectic for me. The controls are also a bit annoying and it's hard to accurately control the character. Mixed with the screen shake it is not really fun to play. I think the game has a lot of potential but the mentioned points drag it down.
This is really well done! I like the bright graphics, the music is fitting and there is an obvious balance you have to strike between feeding you family and not incurring the wrath of Netzahualcoyotl, which makes it challenging as well. The only point of critique I would have is that the power-ups didn't really feel natural or useful enough. But maybe I just haven't played enough yet to get better at utilising them. But, like I said, that's about the only minor thing that bugged me. Overall I think you guys did a great job :)!
