How did you make this under 72hrs???
We are a team of professional IT developper, used to develop software in a given time, it may help :p We used some tool to create the concept (like "brainwriting") and split tasks like ticket a bit like with the Agile method (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agile_software_development).
Very interesting mechanics. Good job!
survival.png I did it! I won! So cool, all galaxy is mine now! :) I love your graphics and music! Good job! :D
@kirke Well done !
Nice work! I love the art and the music :)
Balanced version soon !
This is great. I really like that idea of multiple sacrifices, especially that you must sacrifice part of your vision for improvement. You have done good work
Very well done! Nicely polished and interesting idea. The art and audio are especially impressive, if those are original then incredible work!
@eddie-li Music are not from us but sound effects are (made with chiptone). A shame that there no way to split "Audio" rating in music and sound effects... The music artist's website is in the credit page of the game. Pixelart are by me, particle effects, sound effects, and background image by @lut1n
Good Job
Love the art style, well done!
Played till 35% chance, then got stuck without energy, Ack! Simple controls, yet effective. Too much text at the beginning; didn't read it. Maybe the crew stats could have been displayed when selecting them in the ship. Anyway, great job; enjoyed playing it !
Stat are explained in the text at the begining :p
Great mood, I felt almost like I was in the FTL universe. Skipped the text at the beginning, but still had fun zooming around and picking up ore. Wish there was more exploration! The fog of war is so fun, I'd like to have my choice to take out a few extra blocks rewarded. Showing the ORE locations through the FOW was super smart too.
Nice work! art, gameplay, and sounds felt well polished!
Nice designed game!
Excellent game! Enjoyed playing it, until my suit ran out of power. My only complaint is that the UI covers most of the screen after you get the upgrades for your suit.
Pretty good game, interesting concept. I thought the intro text was a bit long. I got halfway through and just started skipping. Also watch your spelling and grammar for the text as it can be a bit distracting.
I didn't realize that the suit energy ran the gun and boost and got stuck outside the ship so it might have been nice to get a way to just reset the game.
Overall pretty decent job though :)
I played it and enjoyed. However, there seemed to be an issue with crystals from open space. All the crystals I gathered disappeared after coming back into the ship. Anyway great idea and work!
Great concept, the game is mechanically sound. I like the fact the player gets choices right from the beginning. It feels like it could be fairly meditative farming. I didn't play through for a successful liftoff though! Nice work!
@askania-m cristal go into ship tank when you reach ship's entry. Son dont worry you dont lost it ^^
@anthony-dunlap The upgrade UI covering most of the screen is part of the gameplay mechanic : you get upgrade but you have to sacrifice eyesight to use it :)
An interesting game with a kind of mechanics. I put a rating) Please rating and me, thanks in advance)
It got into my head, I actually cared for those astronauts. Great use of the theme and that new upgrade - blocked UI thing is a clever idea, even if I hated it. Nice work!
That was really cool ! I loved the exploration vibes.
On thing that I noted is that it didn't use a sacrifice mechanic on one aspects, but on several, as opposed as most of the others games here.
The audio was very good, as well as the graphism. One thing that slightly bothered me, is that the blocs outside the ship were a bit "big".
The controls were pretty simple and easy to understand.
Well, a very good game !
@myrrhe : Yeah blocks are a bit big but it's mainly because of lack of time and need for optimization (taht big asteroid is a bit messy...). Smaller block would have impact perfomance :)
Merci en tout cas du feedback, nous testerons ton jeu dès que possible ;)
Nice game! Miner is overpowered, you only really need him and improved crystal capacity once you know where all the good stuff is :p Also proof-read your texts, guys, why the hell were we transporting freezed anuses in the first place? (I'm not native english speaker, may be wrong on this, sorry if so)
One of the best game I played this Ludum Dare, really nice!
I have to echo Vernon's sentiment, there was quite a bit of spelling errors (AIs are usually good at spelling!) and the font was hard to read (almost as bad as LD's site, is it @vernon or vemon..). There was also a lot of text in the beginning, I tried to read it all but I think I forgot much of it before I started. It made sense on my third playthrough.
The music was very nice, I left it on as I was writing this review.
I don't see what we are to do when we run out of energy, just wait? Restart? Something should happen. I guess you didn't have time to finish that part. Unlocking 'asteroid integrity' was a poor choice on my part, because it blocked the screen and offered no useful info. I wish one of cheap unlocks offered something interesting, to encourage players to unlock more. It got worse once I unlocked the other skills.
There were also some balance issues, most upgrades besides crystal and energy boost are unimportant, and Miner is just amazing (gaining 5x more crystal outside than the others, I just used him). I do understand what your intention with the theme was, but balance makes most choices trivial.
Now after all this nitpicking, I have to say, the game is very good! I had so much fun in playing it, and I think I spent many hours in it - most of any game so far. Good job!
We will make some corrections this weekend maybe to improve balance and correct some textboxes. Thank for all your review, we really happy to know that most of you enjoy playing our game :) thanks a lot Guys and be sure we will take time to try yours !
PS : musics are not ours, only sounds was made during the jam, take time to check credits if you want to know more about the artist.
one of the best.. so frustrating soo good. dunno what the geologist do... or the engineer do though..
@royur Geologist give you the hability to see ore spot in the fog and has a better resistance against radiation. Engineer allow suit upgrade and are has a more efficient use of energy while he is in mission. The problem is that the miner is a bit overpowered. It will be balance on a soon update.
Holy crap... you all really went all out with this one! Really ambitious for a game jam, but you all pulled it off. Well done!
@arktas if music isn't yours, you shouldn't compete in the audio category.
@gajop But sounds effects are. And the music artist is credited (both in game credit and this page). LudumDare rules : "Audio – How good the game sounds, or how effective the sound design is. A catchy soundtrack, suitable sound effects given the look, voice overs, etc." And sounds effects can add a lot to a game's atmosphere and game mechanics. We work on what sound effects should we make and when to use it. It would be a shame not to have a feedback on those :)
But aside of this, thanks for your analysis :) It's as you said, we didn't have enough time to polish the game balance, there is nearly no tutorial as it's lacking of simple and effective explanation and most of players end floating forever in space without understanding what happened because of that x)
We will surely patch those things later, but I don't think we will add those in this current release, as balance and tutorial are, in my opinion, part of a game conception and not just fixes (we might add some fixes for UI reading ans spelling for example but no more balancing.)
We'll post the Post LD version soon on this page though :)
@wegpast With regards to audio, I think LD rules are pretty clear, but this new site can be a mess to navigate so I can understand how you might've missed them! As it's written: - "You’re free to use 3rd party Artwork/Music/Audio assets, or assets you previously created, but we ask that you OPT-OUT of the respected voting categories (Graphics, Audio). You can opt-out of a voting category when you submit your game." https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules - "Opt-out of categories here if you and your team didn't make all your graphics, audio, or music during the event." (edit page of your game, was also shown when you submitted it)
I can understand how hard it is to balance the game right. Especially since many players here come and play for a few minutes, that's hardly enough to give a proper review. And players who play a lot will find many imbalances.
@gajop I disagree on "clear rules"... As rules say "make all your graphics, audio, or music" or "Artwork/Music/Audio assets", there are differences between Audio and Music, but alas there is no "music" category. If there was, we certainly opt-out this category. Working on sounds effects is still a thing and is part of Audio category, so...
If we go in your way (with exaggeration) : in our graphics we used a font for our text, and it's not made by us, so we need to opt-out graphics too ? It look a bit unfair to me...
But in some way you're right, those musics are awesome and they're not made by us. As a reminder we used [Erik Skiff](https://soundcloud.com/eric-skiff)'s awesome work.
But we chose them accordingly to the atmosphere we wanted to create for our game, and we made sounds effects depending on our need, so we work on audio too...
This is an interesting subject to debate on. Maybe it deserve a post on the main page. I'm really curious about what @pov, or others think about it. Don't you ?
@wegpast OK, it seems you are aware of the rules. How you react on that is up to you. I also don't think we should be discussing this on this page any further. Don't want to distract too much from your game.
PS: I'm honestly not sure if this site is a good place to do any long-term discussion with the rest of the community. I think any post would just get buried in the midst of people advertising their game. But if you do want to start it, send me a link, it's an issue that's been nagging me for a while :)
@gajop yeah you're right, this site may not be the better place to have this discussion, but I think it may interest others.
*ps: played your game, cool one !*
Succeeded with 50% chance, yay! Didn't understand why do you ever need an engineer or the geologist if you can do everything with the miner.
Maybe it was because i skipped the intro (way too long, sorry!), but i have very little idea if there is any difference between the guys. The gameplay works pretty good, it is also fun to speed around. I think it might be a bit too long, with too many crystals needed. I definitely like the graphics, i'm a sucker for cross cuts of anything :D
I think the setup is pretty good, maybe you can expand a bit on the gameplay, make it a tough choice and have a feeling about needing to sacrifice. Overall, good entry :)
It’s not a bad idea, of course, the theme of the competition is sacrifice, but the sound is very depressing, although if the idea was in this, then maybe this is not bad.
