The invisible walls really seem to be the largest problem here. Especially since unwalled track sections are part of the challenge.

Bailing things up (going out of bounds) and general swapping between players could really proceed a bit faster.

Oh and you can kind of abuse the unstuck menu option to flap yourself over larger jumps. That was a bit more fun than just hit and pray.

Super Fun! the only thing i'll note is on jumping to other areas my puck got stuck a couple of times inside the plane (probably the other way around). other than that great work!

raffe 2018-04-25 08:38

It's a good game. Works fine and stuff :p only thing that really sticks to my eyes is the unity skybox xD. But good job!

Nice game , strange mechanics, good idea 5/5!!! Good Luck!!!

ursagames 2018-04-25 10:32

I had a lot more fun with this then I expected! The mechanics are simple to learn, but difficult to master and really felt good. I did run into a couple collision issues where I would could get stuck between objects. I kind of wish there was a single player option so you can just try to get "par" on a track.

First, thanks a lot for your feedback! I'm sorry for the colliders bugs, I had a hard time doing something that stable and I will happily take any advice in that domain!

@YinYin While I had to fix a bug, I also made the invisible walls semi-transparent, it should be a lot better now! Sure you can abuse the unstuck option but as I had no time to code the collision system myself, I just dealt with it.

@RAFFE I thought about it but I just don't know what to put as background / skybox. This is my first "complete" 3D game so...

@ursagames I don't know why I did not let the player choose 1 player, as it should work well. Will update it later for a better post-jam version!

Nice game, mechanics are simple but it doesn't prevent you from having fun, quite the opposite ;)

tomeks 2018-04-26 11:55

Managed to complete the expert level :) a lot of fun, especially with the jumping, art could use some more love, but very engaging and entertaining which is the most important, good job! expert.jpg

I get what you're saying with "racing" but honestly, is it not just crazy golf all the way through? :D Still regardless! Much fun. I did enjoy playing - I did get hampered by a few invisible walls, esp on the expert level - but I could imagine enjoying this with some friends and a few beers! When working it was satisfying to play and beat the levels, performing a sort of skill shot felt great. Good work over all!

First across the line rules for finishing do not go well with turn based. If it takes players the same number of shots to get to the finish then whoever goes first is always going to win, simply because they got to take their final shot first. If a player finishes on turn 5, the game should continue until everyone has had turn 5, and then determine a winner (or joint winners). Also the starting positions should be the same for everyone (either one fixed starting position, or a small area where you can choose where to start) to ensure a fair start. Aside from that the mechanics work well, I think the transparent walls from behind is a really nice touch, and for your first completed 3d game you should be proud!

Had fun xd.

nonimad 2018-04-28 15:01

Thanks again for your feedback, it is much appreciated!

@HS_Dave I played with two friends on Tuesday and we indeed had a lot of fun! Hitting on each other and jumping everywhere we could to find shortcuts. And yeah it's closer to golf: I had ideas to make it closer to a race at first but had no time to complete.

@PSiv That's a lot of good advices! I'll take them into account as I'm improving the game for a better post-jam version. I must admit I am pretty proud :) Thanks!

Wow. first addicting game I've seen this dare. :)

roidz 2018-05-01 11:42

Good game, i think this might work out as a full fledges multiplayer game when worked out. GOOD JOB

derek-wilson 2018-05-01 17:57

Neat concept. The player who goes first has a huge advantage though, I'd certainly put some time into that. In turn-based racing board games there's typically a mechanic like once a player has passed the finish line, then all players get an equal number of turns and the player who made it the furthest wins. Perhaps something like that would help to even things out.

Nice game sort of like Golf With Your Friends. I like the options for creative shortcuts. Game working in the browser is always a big plus.

For improvements, perhaps the camera could be slowed down a little? A small touch puts it underground and it's hard to get it right again. Also I think the mouse would sort of get constrained by the edges of the screen or something because I would try to push further and it would get stuck.

Great game, a lot of fun, nice difficulty progression, really captivating. I liked a lot the fact that you don't start from the beginning but got 'infinite' trys for each shot. It would be great to have a single player or test round option where you just count the total shots needed or the time. Well done indeed, had much fun playing it (albeit alone) I might save this to play with some friends, it looks like a perfect multiplayer game where you can cheer and laugh about the missed shots :p

I’m not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

This is a fun little golf game. It would be nice if knocking your opponent off actually did something to them though.

I think you were going for a pool + racing game, but the visuals do not reinforce this. I recommend changing the wall if you can as well as the model for the players. The scale of the pattern on the wall didn't match the aesthetic of the pucks. I understand if it was a placeholder, but I think the game would feel much better with a 3D model for each player. Most of the levels felt sized right, but the brick pattern was too small and made it feel like everything else was giant in comparison.

The controls were hard to use. I'd encourage the power meter to be charged by the length of time the mouse button was held instead of having to move the mouse forward to load the meter. That didn't feel intuitive and made me waste several turns in the beginning trying to make my puck move. There was no visual indication who's turn it was, so it made it hard to tell whether any action happened if you didn't fling the puck.

In the stream, both players had a hard time controlling the mouse. We had full movement, and it made us frequently go through the floor and walls which was quite disorienting. Is it like this in the Windows version?

Overall I like the proof of concept, and the effort you put into making levels that were the right length for the size of the pucks. With a few tweaks, this is on its way to being a good little game. I hope you keep working on it.
