hey, really nice graphics and mood. I didn't manage to play it properly, though. I start with 1 bolt and instantly open all doors to get villagers outside for them to give me bolts - or I assume that's how it works based on your description. but then like 3 wolves are already hunting me down while I still only have 1 bolt. villagers had bolts above their heads but I couldn't pick them up in time. I guess I need to press e to get bolts from villagers? anyways. definitely make it a lot easier in the beginning of the game! :-)
Good use of sound effects, really creates a mood.
I think there are probably too many wolves at the beginning (there's more then than later in the game).
The reloading mechanic adds a lot of tension which I enjoyed.
I laughed when santa's sleigh appeared.
Good entry.
@fskr did you try reloading your crossbow by holding the 'R' Key down? We added it to the controls info to make it more clear.
It really sets a nice mood with its graphics and sound. I think that it needs a hit sound or a camera shake so you know when you are actually being damaged by the wolves.
@raphael ohhh, I see. you need to reload the bolts :D alrighty! thanks
Loved the mood set by the audio and visuals, and the duration on the reload really helped add to the tension it makes. Great gameplay in general, only one or two glitches with werewolves spawning in rocks and stuff. Great work overall!
I love the mood ! The graphics are really great, I like it ! Congrats !
The Graphics are so good that my GPU has hard time rendering each frame :D
Anyway, I like the mood, environment and the idea of it :) I wish I learn how to make 3D games with so good graphics and animations one day :)
I don't want to sound too harsh, but this game is a perfect example of what happens when you aim a bit too high on a Jam. Let me explain: has a lot of potential, but I can hardly enjoy all these great 3D stuff and atmosphere because of the rushed mechanics, something common in a jam, though. Interaction with doors and npcs is not clear at first, despite of the controls help menu. Wolves come constantly from everywhere just at start with no time to react (and later they get stucked on walls, just a bug I guess). You run out of ammo in seconds, and the slow manual reloads makes things even worse. It should be a bit more paced, IMO. On the good side, graphics are amazing for a 48 hours game, and sound design is very well implemented. Kudos for that!
@fernandxor thanks for the great feedback, it is really appreciated
@fernandxor Thanks for the honest feedback.
While the idea and concept is good, the game is extremely hard to play.
As said previously - the wolves run literally form everywhere and even bringing a single citizen to cathedral without dying is hard, really hard. Bringing second one is close to impossible.
The mood and atmosphere is great on the other hand. So technically it is just about balancing (which is very hard to do in limited time for jam). I noticed (from previous Ludum Dare events), that it was far better when I let my friends and/or relatives play the game and tell me what they didn't like in balancing. Even just few hours before the deadline, it still can help to improve balance and to increase or decrease difficulty.
Overall, I liked the entry.
Keep up the good work!
More fun than I expected!
I agree with @fernandxor and @zgragselus, it's too hard and the instructions are not very clear. The graphics, audio and story are amazing, may be you spent tpo much time on that. For the game jam, to me, you should have focused on the gameplay. I think you should continue to work on it and make it really enjoyable because it has the potential. Sorry for my english.
Seen in the context of an ld game what youve acheived is amazing- nice graphics and great audio- gameplay suffers a little- mainly due to colision and optimization (and i'm guessing time restraints!). Love to see what you can do with more than a weekend!
@ariake81 Thanks! Indeed, we didn't have any time to spare for optimization. ATM we are working on a version in which we wish to complete our initial project idea.
I'm shocked by the first sight. The title screen and tutorial views are just like a movie with so intensive interactions. The gameplay is interesting too. I like to escort villagers. The atmosphere is terrific I feel I'm a hunter that was so important to villagers at that time and the night is really scary. What I suggest is there should be more feedback after important events, like I can hear my character saying 'was so scary' when I lose a person or kill a wolf, I can notice something when I send a village on sleigh that I know I'm proceeding. At the end of the game I don't even whether I left someone or I had saved them all, so I have to run through back to check every house.. Another problem is the villagers's AI on path finding.. Anyway it's surprising to play your game. Very excellent. Hope to see what it grows up to.
@yishalee Thank you for your generous feedback, we feel honored for your emotional investment into the game.
First of all, the werewolves were really good models, interesting and menacing both! The core gameplay and level design are both good here too, though I have to question why the civilians in the houses needed to be randomly generated. Sometimes you get towns with just two guys living in it, which doesn't make for much tension when heading to the church. Also, the second town I went to, all the NPCs got stuck on the edge of the path, but stuff like that's to be expected given how little time you had. Congrats on a solid entry though!
I was really frightened when I heard and saw the first werewolf running at me. Just that was already worth it! Great game, just need some improvements with the pathfinding, sometimes NPCs and Werewolves got stuck.
good game, I liked the mood and the graphics are great too. I had fun, congrats!
@rockhoppergames @lex @srabatata Thanks a lot, we really appreciate your feedback.
Nice game! Felt like Van Helsing hunting werewolves!!!
great game, I really liked the scenario
The atmosphere is terrifying! Hearing a wolf howl in the distance no idea where it's going to come from, the slow reload on the crossbow is perfect to keep that tension really high! Then you've got to deal with escorting the villagers on top of that, I was exhausted after playing from my nerves!
Great mood and a good idea for tense gameplay, with the single shot bolt. It's rather glitchy though. Apart from the zoom-in never seeming to hit, the villagers from the second village had horrendous pathfinding, just jogging in place for 10 seconds, then suddenly moving a few feet, then jogging in place again. Or sometimes not even bothering. Also, a werewolf killed me in the cathedral, so not too safe. Great potential for if you want to give it a bit more polish.
Great mood and atmosphere, though some areas are dropping frames, think this has to do with overdraw. overall the game looks great love the low poly style, sound effects are good. the enemies are a bit boring and I could not find the implementation of the theme. Great effort!
@bredera thanks for your feedback. We are currently looking into the performance problems. About the implementation of the theme, we established the theme by having the player decide how many villagers he takes with him at a time. The more villagers he tries to bring to the church at once the more werewolves will attack him. So you need to think about how much you can handle at a time. We hope this cleared up some of the uncertainties.
Hey this was very well made. The villagers' path-finding and speed was a little annoying, but the rest of the game was quite polished. Loved the sound, atmosphere and controls. Good job!
Nice game! Taking damage is a bit awkward because there's no knockback or shaking, and the combat isn't all that exciting but apart from that you've got a very solid entry! The graphics are enjoyable, and the mood is present! They're the best aspect of your entry in my opinion :)
Really liked the atmosphere in this game. Good job on a nice entry.
