Really nice relaxing game. I like the tile-board game style and the way you need all type of boxes (at a time, I neglected tools, and nobody goes to new crates because their were too far from towns...) score: 113.

A well put together world building game with nice art style and deeper game-play then it seems at first glance.

I really enjoyed this game, the UI could use a bit of work as the control with keyboard + mouse is always something wonky for me, but this didn't remove any of my enjoyment!

My best score was only 42 during my first tries but I'm sure I'll be back to it and try to do better!

(You can see me playing this game for the first time on the vod https://youtu.be/_Upt3PIzndo?t=2h34m11s )

Your game is really well done! Thoroughly enjoyed it. The graphics are really good and the music is very nice too. It's really impressive how many variations of the tiles there are. One thing I didn't really like is that when you have just run out of tiles, but there is a mystery crate left on the map, you have to wait quite a while for the people to find it. Apart from that, I really liked the mechanic that the people are completely doing their own thing. Nice job!

mortus 2017-05-05 20:12

@navot There are actually 2187 variations of tiles, because they're random. Well, not really 2187, because that number does not take into account the possibility to rotate, so... ah, never mind, I'm bad with math.

Scouts are a little bit better in a post-compo version that's downloadable at the bottom of an itch.io page. They are still dumb (they're supposed to be), but they find crates much faster usually. It also has an option to play with mouse only, without using keyboard, so check it out if you liked the game.

What a nice, relaxing game to play. I can actually see myself returning to this later on just to chill a little bit. The music and overall sound design is very soothing and easy on the ears. The gameplay itself isn't very advanced, but seeing the world expand and seeing the little people do things as you build the world feels quite satisfying.

My only complaint would the the controls. Rotating tiles did not work particularly well unless my cursors was hovering over the tile. Which is even less excusable when considering that the tile was not always placed at the location I had my cursors if I was trying to place a tile at the edged of the screen. Some other way to move across the map than WASD would probably help too, because I primarly used my mouse for the gameplay, so I ended up forgetting about WASD a few times. Maybe some way to drag yourself around the map with the mouse would be a good alternative.

Either way though, aside from the controls, I felt everything in this game was well done. The graphcis are nice and meld well with the sounds. Just hands down an overall enjoyable experience.

adrian0901 2017-05-05 20:36

Well, we have a winner here. Perfect. Loved the gfx style.

cheesymoo 2017-05-05 20:42

Really nice!

I can't stop playing...

**EDIT**

Oh I finally realized to use the arrow keys and to rotate the pieces... many more possibilities...

:)

Really good game ! Seriously I think it's one I liked the most. The re-playability is infinite !

I scored 127 and seeing the other comments I think I can be pretty glad of it.

Graphics are quite simple but it corresponds to the game and the environment. The concept is really good and I don't know how many parties I did but wow ! really cool game.

The sound loop is really effective and not annoying at all. I think I played like 30 or 40 minutes of your game because I wanted to beat my previous score that was 99 and I was frustrated not to get 100 points :D

Really cool game.

One last thing, I got stuck couple of time, the units were not moving from the home town at the beginning so maybe add a little menu to restart a game would be cool, as you don't have to Alt-F4 and relaunch the game :)

Some thing I thought while playing, it could be iunteresting to have some kind of capability to "sacrifice" a group to get an item closer so another group can pick it up. It's really frustrating not to be able to pick something just because the groupe is coming back to town. So maybe "sacrificing a group" could be intersesting as it remove points but keep the player going

Really cool game buddy, I think it's one of the game (if not THE ONE) I enjoyed most ! If you wanna update it and continue develping it I would be pleased to test it ! See ya' !

adroitconceptions 2017-05-05 23:09

I liked the game, good graphics, good game play. needs a 'restart' option on the ending screen.

also had some issues with tiles placing from pressing space to get a tile to place if it was in a valid place to drop it when trying to bring out the tile.

krunoslav 2017-05-05 23:22

Really nice game, it is in fact relaxing. It is easy to get stuck because out of tiles, but maybe I am not too good playing :P I liked the grapichs. Cool idea of mechanics :)

david-cookie 2017-05-06 12:40

So this theme reminds you board games too ^^ I really enjoy these type of games and this Ludum Dare is the paradise for it xD Of all the "tiles games" I've played so far, yours is maybe the one that gives the most an impression of an actual lively world. It's nice to see our land extending and scouts doing their things! The graphics are rather pretty, and the music is enjoyable though it gets quickly repetitive (it needs some more variations and moments of pause, less "full").

The controls are a little hybrid I must say, it's strange having to press space each time to call the next tile.. the full mouse gameplay is really welcomed though! I also find that the UI needs some more polish. Sometimes we can't see it becaused it is mixed within the land. Definitely needs a background or something. It is hard to see which crate does what, and also to know if they are in the range of scouts. Could be nice to have a circle around each city to indicate to which range the scouts can move.

To conclude, it's really nitpicking remarks but I prefer to tell you cause your game really has potential. It's still a great work for a jam, and with some more polish, it could really become a sort of fast paced Civilization (like Polytopia on mobile). Well done!

zsoltbartok 2017-05-06 19:11

I really enjoyed your game! Sometimes I play the board game Carcasonne a bit like this, dismissing the offical rules and just build nice little landscapes for fun. Yours is more fun actually, since there are people who depend on my decisions. Good job!

forkytheeditor 2017-05-07 09:11

A really nice little game! The controls are a bit clunky but you just stop noticing it after the first minute or so. The idea is interesting and I'd love to see you play around with it a bit more. What seemed a bit weird to me is that the tiles are randomized when you spawn them so you really don't know what you're going to get, or whether it's actually going to be useful. The music is good and it really fits the game. Overall I liked the game, good job!

colm-eccles 2017-05-09 15:40

Really lovely and fun game. Surprisingly complex and engaging gameplay from a simple concept. Controls seemed a little unresponsive but it wasn't a major problem. Nice job!

mwcz 2017-05-09 16:55

I really enjoyed this game! I spent a little too much time playing it during my lunch break. :) It's very relaxing, but also engaging. I don't have any novel critiques, the only thing that bothered me was the sometimes very long wait for scouts to find crates. The small birds were such a nice touch! Little flourishes like the birds hardly ever make it into LD games. Nice work!

mortus 2017-05-10 11:16

@david-cookie A like your advice about the music a lot. I never thought about it too much, but good relaxing music should indeed have quite times in it. I'll use it in future for sure, thanks.

@mwcz I REALLY wanted to have birds in the game and was quite happy I've managed to add them in the last hour. Glad that you've liked them!

glimaleite 2017-05-10 18:26

This is very nice. I felt like I was playing a board game. Reminded me of Carcassone. Lovely art, lovely music, very polished and well done. It took me a while to read the Game Over text, it is too discrete. Besides that, it took me a good amount of time to understand what was going on, because I was just trying to match borders and... well... that's it.

Congratulations! Great job!

merlin 2017-05-11 10:03

Good job! I really liked this one, especially the artstyle and the carcasonne-like gameplay, but it seems to get a bit monotone after a while. I think it would be nice to have a second slot for another puzzle piece so you would have more opportunities. Or maybe a crate that gives you a needed tile or lets you remove an unwanted tile. Another thing I would like to see is a reward (f.e. in points) for filling the plane so the motivation is higher to not just build to the boxes (a limited view range could help here as well). All in all I just can say: Nice Work!

Edit: It would also be nice to have a button which shows the current reachable places. Currently I'm sometimes not sure if a box is connected or not. Thanks again for building this game, I'm really having fun here^^

athomicus 2017-05-11 10:17

Your game is nice and good, sweet graphics and idea well done

rplnt 2017-05-11 17:08

I really enjoyed playing this game. Nice graphics, fitting music, great gameplay. Very good job.

Only issues: missing restart menu, tile not under visible cursor (at least in WebGL build), hard to see which box is which bonus (noticed it only after several games),

Some things I'd change for more relaxing gameplay: the unknown on how far the scouts will explore is a bit frustrating sometimes, and I'm not sure how the new-town mechanic works either

My best score is ~~98~~ 116. So far :)

meenners 2017-05-12 17:00

Super Cool! Seriously. It kept me in there playing! Are you able to turn the tiles? I wish i could if possible. Felt like i only had 1 spot at all times. otherwise, great game!!!!Loved the graphics, sound and gameplay. great work!

bajarymi 2017-05-12 17:04

Really cool game. Loved the art. Loved it in general. But I found a glitch when I placed a tile at the same time as an exploration event happened. It caused me to have 2 extra tiles that I could rotate but not place that were stuck in the same position. Otherwise amazing, great work

cenullum 2017-05-12 20:11

I love that art style dude. Music was fitting nice. UI wasn't readable sometimes. You should add the game steam. :D

balthazaar 2017-05-13 06:10

Really good! Reminded me of settlers of catan mixed with Carcassonne! I wish there was a reset button when you lost. Will play again!

mortus 2017-05-16 15:55

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@merlin Thanks for a good feedback, actually all of those features are present in a post-compo version I'm working on right now.

@meenners Yes, you can rotate the tiles using the mouse wheel or Q/E buttons.

@bajarymi I believe that bug is fixed for the post-compo version currently available at the bottom of the page. Not sure though (definitely fixed in a current version I'm working on right now).

@balthazaar There's a downloadable post-compo version at the bottom of the game's page which has the restart button, it can also be played with mouse only and doesn't pause in background.

rplnt 2017-05-16 19:26

So, I just wanted to brag that I got to 264 in the post-jam version :)

mortus 2017-05-19 15:06

@rplnt For some reason I'm getting better results in post-compo myself! That's strange because the mechanics in it are unchanged. It gives more points for towns though, but I'm definitely getting more area covered too.

bloodjohn 2017-07-16 10:23

love puzzles. music sets the rhythm of the game.
