Nice game, mrwillowb! Also, i'm glad i could help during your last few hours of creating it ;-)

mrwillowb 2016-12-11 23:00

Yeh thanks for finding some game breaking bugs, I managed to fix them with 3 hours spare til the deadline. It didn't help that I originally uploaded the wrong version :( - The Cheat System works but is a little bit glitchy. Both the cash and lives cheats work.

When I click Restart (after Game Over), I only get the Game Over screen again.
But other than that, it looks pretty nice :)

I played this for a while and found it a little bit text heavy. There was a lot thrown at me at once, but once I did get into the gameplay it was nice (: Also, my broom moved off screen at one point and I could not recover it, haha.

Interesting Game, The rat poison is quite OP though, I just spam clicked the switch and ended up having 1K.

zeoxo 2016-12-13 05:39

nice game!

dobnarr 2016-12-13 05:46

Cute, with charming art and a fun concept. Definitely uses the one room idea well and appropriately, better than many others. I killed 17 mice and gave up, because it became really repetitive. Sometimes mice escaped even though I had a trap set, and it wasn't clear why that was happening. The broom and swatter were fun, but there didn't seem to be any long term risk from those, nor was it hard to keep the place clean. Very clear and extensive instructions - that's a lot of interface work. Nice job. The music track was mostly annoying rather than adding to the game.

Be careful with the high pitched square waves, they can be a little harsh to hear.

conradte3 2016-12-13 06:20

I was really impressed with the graphics, user interface, and tutorial. Gameplay wasn't very challenging, but still a neat concept.

Nice game, very many things to do. But it's hard to understand from beginning what need to do. Please add improved graphics.

mrwillowb 2016-12-14 00:38

I need to fix the starting instructions - the arrows point to the wrong place, sorry about that.

jusw85 2016-12-18 17:45

Pretty unique concept, I enjoyed it :)
Good effort with the music, although after awhile I had to turn it off.

Great mouse and fly sprites. Getting the broom/swatter stacked on top of each other was a little annoying but still playable. I didn't really get why the mice were escaping during game play, but after re-reading your description it makes sense that there are special rat types.

Great job on your entry. Definitely shows you spent a lot of time on it. Sound effects worked and the art work had a nice flow to it. Would like to see the game expanded on with maybe more variety of creatures and ways to destroy them. But for ludum dare you should be very proud of you what you accomplished.

I did have a small lag problem on the web version when the screen started filling up but wasn't there in the windows version (This may just be WebGL). Also when the broom/flyswatter were on top of each other I had a hard time separating and controlling them

sikosis 2016-12-20 03:43

Great game with good graphics and gameplay. I had trouble using the broom, but otherwise it was a nicely executed.

The game reminded me of some early pc games like "Tom & Jerry: Yankee Doodle Cat-astrophe". Even music sounds like played by "pc speaker". I like the GUI. I really enjoyed playing this game, so your 40 hours wasn't a waste of time :). Good game.

antishow 2016-12-20 18:27

Felt more like work than play to me, but I loved the mouse explosion when the traps actually work!

emmelineprufrock 2016-12-22 05:54

Loved seeing the work you put into this.

vadim-ivshin 2016-12-22 08:35

Nice entry, even with cheatcodes. Thanks!

stupidmindlessf 2016-12-22 11:02

Extremely impressive compy entry, holy cow! Must be one of the ost complete games I have seen so far. The theme is well used and the gameplay, kept me stubbornly playing.
I wished there would have been a bigger challenge at some point, I'd liked an opportunity to feel like I did something clever or got better at the game.
I would have expected to be able to place traps and cheese at different locations and found it odd, that they all stacked at the same spot.
The music is unfortunately not very good and the game would have been better off without it.
The art is pretty nice, everything very consistent, nice comic look.
All in all a really great entry.

thehungrydeveloper 2016-12-22 12:01

I found it difficult to learn. Might have been a bug but there was always a trap on my screen and cheese regardless of if there was one there or not, after the second rat got away cause of the issue I quit. If that bug wasn't there I may have continued! :)

simonhutchinson 2016-12-22 14:15

Cool and grisly.

mrerdalural 2016-12-23 12:39

I could not mute the music. The game is too repetitive to be interesting. Whether you catch the mouse or not has nothing to do with the player, it is only effected by RNG.

I liked the graphics and idea.

tkachov 2016-12-23 13:04

Embedded game redirects to kongregate, and that wouldn't be that bad if they wouldn't erase whole browser's tab history. Don't do kongregate.

I've played it until it crashed my browser (didn't even score 20), and your description says to kill 1000 to win. Well, may be something wrong with web version, because it didn't look like mice spawn all the time or that I can place traps in different places (seriously, I couldn't find the way to move those). I totally believe that wouldn't be fun to kill 1000 mice by repeating the "buy trap-set trap-switch off the light-wait till mouse is dead-switch on the light-clean up" sequence.

Graphics look fine, idea is OK, but gameplay? Guess it would be fun, if it would be possible to set traps whereever I want and not only while the lights are on. That would be solid tower defense-like gameplay.

zener 2016-12-27 08:39

Cool concept and very big mouse!

minato4th 2016-12-27 11:04

this is very good, as special tutorial

jupiter_hadley 2017-01-06 18:54

Neat game. I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/-Y1GOAhzfQA

mrwillowb 2017-01-08 03:27

Thanks for all the feedback, next Ludum Dare I will try and make something even more special :).
