Dec 4 23:51:25 Horny Demons ♥ 2 Once you understand the flow, it becomes quite satisfactory just to hoard for resources. Horny_Demons_2018-12-04_09-42-58.png Hey there. I've played your games on previous jams, and said "why the heck not?", let's continue with the trend. And I am pleasantly surprised. Despite the progression glitch, this is quite well balanced, satisfying and even addicting. If the progression actually worked, I'd call it your team's best game to date. What can I say? I'm a sucker for card games and resource management. It has a lot of growth potential. Here's hoping you can sort out the glitches in the system. It's quite disappointing reading that there's a lot, and finding that it's blocked at the very first step. [Our team](discord.whalesandgames.com) is looking forward to seeing the finished product. Do ping us if it gets tweaked. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 5 00:46:42 55m 17s Fruit Flinger ♥ 2 Hitting the sweet spot is not easy, but getting some hits felt so satisfactory Fruit_Flinger_2018-12-04_18-39-03.png Quite basic game, but very interesting in execution, even tough it’s hard as nails. The sounds were very weird at times, but I must say, I laughed at the voice overs. It’s very hard to hit enemies as it is, specially since they’re constantly moving. I believe this could have benefited from options for fine tuning the power of the shot rather than timing, trial and error. Still tho, landing a shot made me feel so good. Anyhow, congratulations on making it through the jam! Fruit Flinger is well worth checking out. My team salutes you and wishes to see more from you in the future. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 5 01:35:22 48m 40s Blót ♥ 1 This is one of the most impressive games I've seen submitted to compos. The sounds, the effects, the setting, it's so very atmospheric. And it also gets quite challenging at times. firefox_2018-12-04_19-24-47.png Some of the jumping was finicky, though. It's very easy to die in specific spots because the jumpings can get very tricky, but that actually felt so good with the setting of the game. As in, the rain, clouds and thunder did make it feel like an urgency. Stopping to chop wood only added to it. There's a lot of greatness to be found in Blót. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) are going to love it when they get a chance to play it. Keep up the good work, and, again, excellent compo entry! 🐳
Dec 5 02:02:14 26m 52s Dungeon Clicker Crowler ♥ 0 While the game got somewhat skewed at times for terrible luck of the draw, I had a genuine fantastic time when things started going through levels like crazy. I mean, my best was 5, but still... firefox_2018-12-04_19-56-57.png Fantastic art, with a fun setting and a good mechanic of balancing number of people with time. The description was not very clear, but it's one of those games that it's better to just head into them, play a bit, and learn the mechanics as you play. And man, didn't I have a blast with it. I got 2 people on a single level, and that gave me enough to sacrifice them and get further and further. But more often than not, I either died by not finding anyone at all, or randomly exploding people. I believe that the odds should be tweaked just a bit in the player's favor. Regardless, fantastic entry. Loved the retro feeling of it. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) are looking forward to seeing more from you in the future. I'd sacrifice a few naked men to make that happen. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 5 02:39:09 36m 55s Please Player ♥ 2 Let it run for a while. Gave it hope. Poor creature never had a chance... firefox_2018-12-04_20-30-53.png After 2 clicks, I thought this would be just a clicker of sorts, so I started just mindlessly pressing the button until I happened to reach the ending. When I read it and found out what was the point of it all, I replayed it and oh god what have I done. Very simple in presentation, and not much of a game. But regardless, this is a great entry as a very interesting piece of interactive media. I really liked the graphics, which had some sort of old-timey flash style mixed with something that I'd expect to see from The Binding of Isaac. If anything, I applaud it for making me feel bad when my first instinct was to think of it as a "pointless clicker". Given the theme, calling it pointless would mean that one's already dehumanized. Fantastic entry. I'll send it to [my team](discord.whalesandgames.com) to see if they'd like to check it out too. So far, you've got a great thumbs up from me. Keep up the good work! 🐳

Seeing this one on a stream made me want to check it out on my own. Who doesn't want to play a ~~sarlacc~~ eldritch monster simulator? A bit clunky and simplistic on the UI, but very straightforward and fast paced. Even with the theme, I'm impressed that the team managed to do something that has both a feeling of urgency and a lighthearted sense of humor. Giving a demanding god a single pea or lifting over a cow never gets old. If anything, my one complaint is at the very beginning, where I'd like to either skip the narration or have text as a substitute to explain the gameflow. Otherwise, fantastic work. Great pixel art, and good job to the voice actor! [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) congratulates yours for a job well done. Laughs were had. It was a good evening for my Gorth shaped heart. 🐳
Dec 5 03:14:17 18m 27s Sacrificio Inc. ♥ 2 A deceptively head-cracking puzzler. You can easily "know" the solution by looking at the blocks, but getting them into place is the real trick, and I love it for it. Sacrificio_Inc_2018-12-04_21-09-02.png The whole game feels like one of those frustrating slide puzzles, but with an actual fun methodology to them, with very limited space to maneuver to get everything into place. The mix of the gorgeous artwork, the tribal-esque music and clever levels make this a top-notch entry. By far, my favorite detail is how the sacrifices scream as they get close to the pit. That's the kind of polish that really outstands. Fascinating job! [The team](discord.whalesandgames.com) were looking forward to check this out since the game was announced. We're looking forward to seeing where else will this team head in the future! 🐳
Dec 5 03:46:25 32m 08s Dog Dog Dungeon ♥ 2 To think that a platformer about dogballs could be so charming and emotional... firefox_2018-12-04_21-39-06.png What an all-round marvel. Simple, yet effective and even stunning graphics paired with a musical track that's fitting, funny and thrilling, and grouped up with platformer puzzles that really tie everything together. I'm astonished. What can I say? I'm flabbergasted. I usually write longer reviews with feedback, but I'm utterly speechless this time around. On your place, I have no idea of what I would change or add to improve the experience, since it's already all so neatly packed together. If anything, as someone mentioned before, an R button or something to quickly restart. But really, for short levels, that's just me being picky. Incredible work. I'll forward it to [my team](discord.whalesandgames.com) to share on the delight that Dog Dog Dungeon is. I clap like a madman for you, looking to see more of this kind of entries in the coming jams 🐳
Dec 5 05:14:25 1h 28m Blob Time ♥ 3 Blob Time made the best with its mechanics and resources, cramming a surprising amount of levels for a jam game. firefox_2018-12-04_23-02-13.png Some something calm, certain levels did feel like a blood rush, making the player barely make it to the exit or through some obstacles. The last level in particular subverted most expectations from the early levels, and this is one of the few platformers where every jump counts, both as HP and mechanically. If I were to give feedback, it'd be about the arbitrary difficulty of the levels. Some early ones were more puzzle-y than some later ones, which were, in comparison, just straight foward. This kind of stuff is difficult to tweak, I guess, but still, it made up for an overall odd pacing. Some of the later levels would barely qualify as puzzles. Regardless, fantastic job. In behalf of [my team](discord.whalesandgames.com), we wish yours a fantastic LD rating period. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 5 05:30:32 16m 07s Bloop Bloop! ♥ 1 I kinda felt like a sadist when I realized that I could maximize my score by getting as many Bloops sick as possible. I can't even tell if this is working as intended or just a happy accident. But hey, it was flipping fun. firefox_2018-12-04_23-22-22.png It's very hard to nail down exactly what this is. Some weird mix of strategy, puzzle, arcade and physics gameplay, which can be as calming as thrilling, with the explosions being somewhat zen in nature, respite them representing dozens of Bloops dying. The duality of Bloops, I'd say. But hey, I got almost to a million in score, so it's all good, right? Right. Simple in functions, and with some very memetic sound effects. This game was a blast, and in more ways than one. Stirring towards the simplistic and even click-heavy at times, but it was still a bundle of joy for most of its duration. I talk for [my team](discord.whalesandgames.com) when I say that this entry was special by reasons that are seemingly contradictory. Great job, and we hope to see more from your team later on! 🐳
Dec 5 20:27:53 14h 57m aberth: simple text based choose your own adventure ♥ 1 In the right hands, anything can be used as a game engine, I guess. firefox_2018-12-05_14-20-11.png Last time I was surprised to see so many board games, but if using Google forms becomes the new thing, then I'm all up for it. I'm a sucker for CYOA games, and this one was quite the oddball. Very somber, with some interesting touch of surrealism and absurdity. While it's not saying much that this pushed the limits to what Google Forms can do, it certainly stands out. Good work with Aberth. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) sends you a polite salute, and wish you the best while wondering if this Google Forms thing will catch on. It's quite a fun time 🐳
Dec 5 21:05:03 37m 10s Medic ! ♥ 3 2 dumb accidents and a wheelchair race?! Come on, people. Can you freakin' wait 5 seconds without messing something up?! firefox_2018-12-05_14-45-05.jpg Is this a fast paced card game? A simulation? A roguelike puzzle experience? With skill trees? Hell yeah, it's everything and goshdangit I want it on my phone. I swear, this is one of the few games of LD that I'd really like to play even after the judging session is over. It's just so good, addictive, and with so many decisions that truly make the player want to try different approaches. I'm labelling it with the dreaded-yet-true _easy to learn, hard to master_ motto. 3 runs in and I'm still on a 56% average. I'm going to get lawsuits up the wazoo, but in all fairness, if these people can't make it through dumb accidents, wheelchair racing or freaking street fights (I lol'd), I'd say it's more on natural selection than my poor prioritizing skills. With great music and atmospheric visuals, this is quite an immersive game. Perhaps my favorite of the jam to date. [I'll be informing my team about it](discord.whalesandgames.com), with the idea that they'll find it as engaging as I did. Kudos, and keep making greatness! 🐳
Dec 6 04:48:11 7h 43m For Brain ! ♥ 1 I am good zombie. I feel validated firefox_2018-12-05_22-42-55.png Great job for making it through the jam. It's great to find a game that has such a straightforward use of the theme, rather than trying too hard to be clever. While it was very short and simple, it was still a nice experience. The constrains of time really show up though, with some wonky physics here and there. The levels were too easy, except when collisions caused problems. Still though, the sound selection and visuals worked perfectly, and the zombies with Santa hats were a great touch. Keep on participating on LD jams. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) would like to see what else you can come up with next time. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 7 01:22:55 20h 34m Omitl ♥ 1 I really like how the game can be sped up by just spawning more enemies, even if that comes at the cost of increased difficulty. firefox_2018-12-06_19-15-04.png While somewhat simplistic at first, I'm amazed that not only does this game offer upgrades, but that it has a freaking boss fight to boot. It took me a couple of tries, but I made it through, and it felt so good. Nice graphics and tight gameplay made this an enjoyable experience. Good job! The game was a bit too easy though. Maybe some traps or something could make it more engaging and interesting, since enemies are quite easy right now. Anyhow, great job. In behalf of [my team](discord.whalesandgames.com), we wish you a great rating period. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 7 18:42:22 17h 19m Rogues Like Beer ♥ 1 Anything for the beer, right? Rogues_Like_Beer_2018-12-07_12-32-23.jpg Can't really say much about this game that hasn't been said before. That it was made for the jam is already a marvel, since it does look like some games you'd find for sale around. With mechanics that are easy to understand and a lot of quality of life to avoid frustration, this puzzle game is a thrilling hip ride. Great music, lovely graphics and witty humor. Certainly one of the best all-round games in the jam. It's a shame that tables were only used for one puzzle, but I guess that had to do with time constrains more than anything. There's certainly a lot of potential if you ever decide to further develop this. Puzzles with bombs and tables would be fantastic. Astonishing work there. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) sends you the best wishes. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 7 19:52:43 1h 10m Dark Roads ♥ 1 Oh, if only they knew what awaited them... Dark_Roads_2018-12-07_13-41-35.png You all know by now that I admire your work, and the artwork and writing of this one makes it into an unnerving visual novel of sorts. Some hiccups here and there from odd design decisions, but I believe it achieved its goals. I must say tho, this entry is not exactly intuitive, nor do I believe there was a reason to require 4 players. While I can understand some idea to test something that goes beyond just tying a character to a button or pressing 1-to-4 to choose who does what, I believe this entry would give a better experience if there was a "single player" version. I do like the idea of having 4 people playing and all playing a very wicked version of "chicken" to see who survives until the end, but it's very hard to find around here a group of 4 people who would make the experiment work. As usual, I love the art. The narrative was quite good too... but it kinda felt like it fell apart at moments. Without enough time to explore characters, it felt very cookie-cutter whenever anyone needed to sacrifice themselves, and the ending. Not a bad experiment for a visual novel, but not exactly a thrilling experience for those without local friends to make it work as intended. Here's hoping you can get at least a few groups that can share some insight on how it went. Anyhow, [we're](discord.whalesandgames.com) looking forward to seeing what's next for the team! Cheers! 🐳
Dec 7 23:42:25 3h 49m Archibald's Snobbish Journey ♥ 1 Here's hoping that wasn't a shiny. Archibald's_Snobbish_Journey_2018-12-07_17-33-38.png This was a rather interesting puzzle of priorities, with a simple yet snappy sense of humor and some sort of logical explanation to each decision. While some aspects of the gameplay were a bit confusing to begin with, at the second round, I caught on the mechanics, and it became quite a fun experience. For something done in 48 hours, this is rather impressive. Since this game was to the point and works as a short experience, I don't really think of anything to add to make it better. But if you do expand it, you can add some polish, like timers. Those could have been useful. Anyhow, great job. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) sends you salutations and hope to see more projects like this in the coming jams. All round, this was a memorable experience. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 8 00:20:56 38m 31s The Eternal Cold ♥ 2 It's a cold hell out there. The_Eternal_Cold_2018-12-07_18-14-08.png While RNG seems to be too strong in this game, I'd say this project succeeds at what it tries to do. The cold setting of a hopeless settlement does a good job as making the player sacrifice things for survivavility. Heck, I'm impressed at how micromanaging-y this can gets, with specialists and what not. I had 3 on my first playthrough, despite not truly understanding the game then. It's a bit finnicky to comprehend and see the impact, but the simulation elements, the random events and the different settlers, paired with stunning visuals and a cold, gloomy soundtrack, make up for a very impressive and lasting experience. Incredible work. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) applauds your hard work, and would like to see where else your team can go. Keep up the good work! 🐳
Dec 8 17:39:07 17h 18m Ultimate Snackrifice ♥ 0 I'm a goblin that can relate to putting bitten food on the fridge :I firefox_2018-12-08_11-31-11.png Welp, isn't this a fresh take on inventory management? I had a fun time packing the foods in a quite intuitive manner. My fridges might not have been the most balanced meals ever, but at least they were mostly packed up. I'm just a bit worried that RNG can get somewhat messy. In my first playthrough, I got no donuts, and my last one, I got 3 almost in a row, which, while on theme of sacrificing to make space for stuff, ended up being somewhat frustrating. But regardless, it was a great and polished experience. The old timey music really set up the mood. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) wishes you a great rating season. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 8 17:54:55 15m 48s I, Candle ♥ 4 Is this a new Beauty and the Beast reboot? Because I'd watch that. firefox_2018-12-08_11-47-48.png I really like it when people at the LD make simple, to-the-point concepts, that are very easy to get instead of trying too hard to be clever. The use of the sacrifice theme is quite clear in this project, and it makes up for very appealing gameplay. Sacrificing for just a bit more of visibility is something I'm yet to see, which I applaud. The animations and music are great, and the effects are very atmospheric. My only complain would be that, in comparison, the yelling at the start felt very loud, even though it was quite funny. But it wasn't a big inconvenience. Anyhow, fantastic work there. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) salutes your cleverness. Keep up the good work! 🐳
Dec 14 00:22:34 126h 27m Ultimate Sacrifice ♥ 1 As I approached the final waves, I was feeling like an unstoppable powerhouse. But oh, I was not prepared to what the game had yet in store... UltimateSacrifice_2018-12-13_18-11-15.png After a few rounds, I made it to the final wave(?), but then just died as I really had minimum damage output in a room full of swords. All things considered though, this is one of the most fun games of the jam I've played so far. To the point, no signs of uncomplete feature creep, and a surprising gameplay tweak right when it needed to happen. I actually took a screenshot of the "twist" of the game, but given the nature, I believe it's better to not spoil it :P My one and only qualm is having to press the V button, which is an odd one given the controller scheme. Either right click, middle mouse button or just stepping close to the corpses should have sufficed. But that's not that big of a deal. Great pixel art! [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) sends you their best wishes, and keep up the good work. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 14 00:37:05 14m 31s Flocked ♥ 1 Gods better appreciate this. These are some fine sheep. flocked_windows_2018-12-13_18-27-51.png Very basic, but functional game. If anything, I appreciate the somewhat unreliable inertia of the mouse, which made this a more unique and actually fun game than it would have been with a more 1:1 clicking output. For all intents and purposes though, the game was quite polished, delivering a cohesive experience. But still, there's not much to it after a couple of rounds. Try to add a bit more "oomph" next time around, but do not become a victim of feature creep. However, take in mind this for any and all of your future projects if possible. Add a quit button or key if it'll be played in full screen. Just a small detail that's always good to have, instead of forcing the good old Alt+F4. Anyhow, good job making it to the jam. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) are looking forward to whatever you can bring up next time. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 14 00:52:55 15m 50s HSMC Arena ♥ 2 There's no stop to them. It's a stampede! firefox_2018-12-13_18-47-06.png Got to say, the game does have the benefit of a bunch of skills and a good layout for the graphics. It's not exactly revolutionary, but for a jam game, I'd say it exceeds expectations of what I originally thought it'd be. But it did feel a bit unfair, given that enemies ended up spawning way faster than I could kill them. Still tho, the control scheme is a bit weird. It's not quite intuitive which button does what, which is specially alarming when surrounded by enemies. More often than not, it was better to just spam everything and hope for the best. Try to at least give some instructions, and even put the keys over the skills so the players have no problem in telling which does what. Keep up the good job! [My team](discord.whalesandgames) are always looking forward to seeing where else projects of this kind can go. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 14 01:15:00 22m 05s Viking Snow Fight ♥ 3 I... just... what... what the hell happened. What? firefox_2018-12-13_19-08-39.png So I got the horn, things got weird, and I played for a bit longer just to make sure. That was so freaking weird and out of nowhere and I loved it. I mean, I originally started playing the game and thought there was not much to it. But that freaking horn got me good. The graphics are fantastic, and the deep sounds do get along nicely. But all jokes considered, the game was short and simple. Enjoyable and a quick laugh. It'd be fantastic if you could add more features to it in the future, as it has a lot of potential. I'm redirecting this game to [my team](discord.whalesandgames.com), hoping to get a glance of their reactions to the horn. Keep up the good work! 🐳
Dec 14 01:26:37 11m 37s Charming's Sacrifices ♥ 1 I'm not even sure of what's going on, but the quest continues. Onwards! firefox_2018-12-13_19-19-39.png Quite a prototype you've got there. A good skeleton, but something that could really do with some balancing down the line, if you do decide to retake this concept. The game has its visual and audio charms, but gameplay wise, it's hard to tell what's going on. I never understood what I got from the chests, nor if I was "killing" enemies correctly. It's hard to tell what's an incomplete feature or a glitch, but nothing that can't be fixed with a day or two of fixes. The humor did get me to chuckle though. You've got interesting ideas, which should be further explored. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) is looking forward to play more games from you in the future. Cheers! 🐳
Dec 31 15:53:59 422h 27m Deadly Debt ♥ 0 I initially had some problems when trying to move and shoot at the same time, but the game let me had just enough space to breathe to move and then shoot from a safe distance. It's quite amazing that the team managed to make such a complete and expanding experience in the allotted time. It's a bit of a bummer that there's no finite end, given that the game wasn't that challenging to begin with. But the setting was about right and the artwork had its own sense of charm. I found the enemies a bit too visually inconsistent though, but it's great that they have tells about where they're going to attack. Congratulations on making it through the jam, and happy new year! [Our team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) sends their regards! 🐳
