Aug 1 13:38:29 The Hunt for Red October Box ♥ 5 Nice little game! Fun concept, effective graphics, sound is simple but functional. Ran into a small bug where the sub got confused/couldn't decide its orientation when moving straight up or down. Also the lighting mechanics could do with a little explanation -- I couldn't get the green glow shown in the screenshot, just total darkness.
Aug 1 14:09:28 30m 59s Baby Space Saucer ♥ 2 The concept is fun. Execution isn't bad either, you had a vision and stuck with it. Making the player use the arrow keys to scroll the control panel (but not the screen above it) was a mistake. It's confusing and ends up looking like a bug. Also, for an actual bug, sometimes clicking the correct button does nothing. Definitely a good effort though.
Aug 1 14:25:55 16m 27s REcharge ♥ 1 Pros: Controls well, looks good, sounds good. Good atmosphere. Cutscene work was also nice! Cons: I wish parts of the cutscenes were skippable, some of the bits just go on too long. Recharging takes forever. Not restoring the battery level when you die was a very odd choice (or bug?) and could make the game unwinnable. Bugs: The ESC menu completely bugged out for me (too-large buttons with no text on, going down off-screen).
Aug 1 14:39:11 13m 16s Televised Intelligence Manager (TIM) ♥ 0 Graphics are really impressive, and the narration was funny. Good job! I had some volume problems, everything was really soft, and even with my laptop cranked up to max volume I could barely hear any music or sound (except the narration, which was still quite a bit on the soft side). I think this might be a problem unique to me, but the controls are really floaty and imprecise, with every character sliding all over the place like they're on ice. The Roomba bot especially -- I couldn't progress beyond that section because the controls made it impossible to get through of the air ducts. Camera had a similar problem with floatiness. I'm not prone to motion sickness at all but this was on the verge of giving it to me. All the same, I still liked it! Thumbs up from me.
Aug 1 15:09:12 30m 01s Adrift ♥ 1 This looked and sounded good. Unfortunately I couldn't play beyond the opening, since the game wouldn't let me into 'command' to see Commander Sheffield. (There was a door with a prompt but it didn't do anything on right-click or left-click.) Good effort though!
Aug 1 15:23:42 14m 30s Times New Robots ♥ 1 I actually quite enjoyed this. Becomes too easy very quickly, most of the batteries last too long, and your own gun doesn't do enough -- but it has a lot of promise. I'm a sucker for tower defence games and I could definitely see myself playing a professional version.
Aug 1 15:46:52 23m 10s Dryad ♥ 3 Generally charming. My main complaint is that stamina mechanic... Due to the super slow recharge rate, it drains out all the fun by forcing you to constantly wait around, unable to jump. Good effort.
Aug 1 16:09:37 22m 45s Scrapjunk Couriers ♥ 1 I absolutely loved FTL. This clearly takes a lot of cues, but it does it well, with a twist on the formula that feels fresh rather than desperate. Nice graphics, nice execution, pity about not having any sound but worth playing regardless!
Aug 2 15:55:35 23h 45m Escape ♥ 1 Like others, I also got stuck when a box I needed was lost to the waves. But until then, the game was good! Nice atmosphere, impressive sound and graphics, was not expecting a physics engine at all. Thumbs up.
Aug 2 16:03:22 7m 47s Rise Shine Fall ♥ 1 This is an interesting one. It could've done with some music, as I didn't hear any beyond the chanting, but it's a nice take on the theme. Loved the look of the trees.
Aug 2 16:08:11 4m 49s Cell Out! ♥ 1 Very short indeed, but incredibly polished for 24 hours. Lots of potential here and would love to see it in a more finished state.
Aug 2 16:18:05 9m 54s The Crossing ♥ 1 Cute little resource management game. Sound is good, nice scrolling environment. It just needs more of everything.
Aug 2 16:22:30 4m 25s CHAINED ♥ 1 Interesting and well-done in graphics, sound and concept. Not exactly made for those of us using a laptop touchpad, but I won't mark you down for that!
Aug 2 16:46:33 24m 03s Mars Mystery ♥ 1 Nice, creative, good atmosphere. It was unreasonably difficult after level 2 so the shine wore off a bit, but that could be polished up. Keep at it.
Aug 2 16:54:38 8m 05s Towers of Power ♥ 1 Not enough explanation of the mechanics, either in-game or on this page, so I couldn't get past level 2. Which is a pity because a lot of work has obviously gone into it and it seems like fun.
Aug 2 20:51:13 3h 56m Robot Kernel PaniK ♥ 3 Game shows a lot of promise, although right now it's just too difficult and unclear what to do. Especially since placing robots next to terminals had no effect in my game (despite what the guide on this page says). Art, sound and concept are all good. Once you get the gameplay and ease of use under control, this might become something interesting.
Aug 2 21:17:41 26m 28s < Mr. Plug > ♥ 2 Cute wee thing! Good mechanics, challenge, and level design. The ending didn't make a ton of sense, but that's about it.
Aug 2 22:39:20 1h 21m SpaceY ♥ 0 Looks and sounds fantastic, plays well, really impressive showing. I found the upgrade system a little frustrating. Spending lots of time flying to an upgrade that turns out to be less good than what I have -- or, in the case of the radar that doesn't detect hydrogen or oxygen, repeatedly gets me killed -- got really annoying after a while. That part could use some work. Overall, a definite thumbs up!
Aug 2 22:49:29 10m 09s System.reLight ♥ 1 I couldn't get the hang of this one. It looks and sounds good, the lighting is brilliant, but I guess the gameplay is just too difficult for me. After several tries I couldn't get even halfway to winning the first wave. Ah well.
Aug 5 04:21:14 53h 31m Light Switch Crusader ♥ 2 This one is well put-together mechanically, though I found the game design a little frustrating. 1. Having to search the entire level for a rather pointless key to progress, especially without explaining on the first playthrough (or on this page) that a key is necessary. As a player I assumed only the lit house was relevant, not that I'd have to go into a pitch-dark corner to find a key. 2. A cat that responds to intruders? Obtuse and unintuitive as opposed to a dog. The only way the player can logically figure out that they have to look out for the cat is by losing. 3. The camera was at a frustrating angle, and much of the level was too dark, making it annoying to move around. It has promise, there's nothing wrong with the basic concept, so if the execution improves then I'll certainly like the game better.
Aug 5 05:26:21 1h 05m Drone Supervisor ♥ 1 I spent FAR longer playing this than I should have, because it was fun and interesting. That is all.
Aug 5 05:56:14 29m 53s Turrets Turrets ♥ 0 Definitely fun and challenging, fits the theme fairly well, and I have a soft spot for tower defence games anyway. Thumbs up!
Aug 14 03:05:27 213h 09m Don't Let the Light Go Out ♥ 0 Nice art, some impressive effects, and a clean well-realised concept. Audio does get a bit repetitive, and the choice of controls was slightly awkward. Personally I found the gameplay a bit on the difficult side -- but then I'm not very good at these sorts of games, so don't take that as a criticism. :P Solid work overall.
Aug 14 04:37:43 1h 32m Automated Explorer ♥ 1 Very impressive for a compo game. Effective graphics, a surprising amount of variety, and a lot of clever -- if sometimes a little frustrating -- level design. (The frustrating part being having to travel back to the same screen over and over again. And occasionally unreasonable difficulty.) If you plan to keep going with this, definitely put in a feature to start the same screen over. Other than that, it's already pretty well put together. Kudos.
Aug 20 23:45:33 163h 07m Emergency Evacuation ♥ 1 A clever concept well-executed. Nice work. My biggest criticism is that it really needed more detailed instructions on how to play, even just here on the page.
