| Aug 26 03:26:00 | Changer | Hey this was a really well put game. At first I was completely confused about what I was supposed to do. I still can't say I understand 100% what the signals means, but I can do reasonably good guesses. I managed to get 4 heads awake.

The sound really puts the game together.

One suggestion I would make is to have some way to keep track of progress, like a score at the end of each game session.

Cheers, and thanks for the game! | |
| Aug 26 03:30:00 | 4m 00s | Vacuous | Huh... I could not start the game :-( I see the title screen, but the game won't respond to me pressing keys or clicking. |
| Aug 26 03:43:00 | 13m 00s | When The Sun Sets | I really liked your art style and your music, you also had kind of a solid idea, but the game programming and polishing was lacking.

I will give you some of my impressions, I hope this help you next time:

* At the title screen, I tried clicking "start" but nothing happened. If you are not going to do mouse input, do not place a "button" like on your screen, and tell the player as soon as possible what are the commands (space for jumping?)

* The platforming needs work. The jump is really short, but the character can somehow glitch into the next platform, even though visually he cant reach it.

* Also, when I played the second time around (after dying the first time), the game did not end when the sun reached the bottom of the screen. Check if you are resetting all your variables!

Thanks for the game, and best of luck next LD :-) |
| Aug 26 03:57:00 | 14m 00s | Bit-ship Ld27 By lcass | That is a very very neat idea that you have. I love the concept "build your ship, then fight!".

Of course, there is a long way to go for your game to be really playable, and many things to talk about it.

I will try to give only one piece of advice:

When explaining something complex, I think that you should first start by explaining what the "goal/end state" is, and after that you explain how to get there.

For example, you have this huge manual above, but only in the very last line it says that you can "press P to fight other ships", I almost missed it.

I suggest you re-organize your manual. Start by explaining that in this game you build ships and then use them to fight other ships. Then say that the game has three states - and what they do! After all of that, start explaining how building works.

If you have a good manual, even the most complex games become playable :-)

Cheers! And I hope to see more from this game. |
| Aug 26 04:07:00 | 10m 00s | 10 Sec Glut | Whoa! Hilarious game :-) It got me by surprise.

The game was fun, and pretty ridiculous. Some food was being created from below, which was a bit weird. If you removed some physics glitches, and added some "eating" sounds, this game would be even better :-)

Thanks for the game, this is me playing it: http://youtu.be/1Icv1TyRhoE |
| Aug 26 04:17:00 | 10m 00s | Draggin ten | The game was pretty fun. I found my self playing it over and over :-) In the beginning, it is a bit hard to understand that you need to press "up" (W) to go "right", but after I got that, the game plays very smoothly.

I would suggest that you add some sort of "in-game" gauge of how far the player has gone. It really motivates in this launcher games to have some measure of progress, like a "last record" flag.

Also, sound effects, please! :-)

Thanks for the game, and congrats on a nice 1st LD. |
| Aug 26 05:38:00 | 1h 21m | Nigeria: Live Fast Die Young | That was a fast paced game :-)

I really liked the music and the general idea of the subgames. But it gets repetitive really quickly.

By the way, I think the "document" minigame might be bugged: It seems that it did not reset every time I switched to it.

Thanks for the game!

Hint: write some blog posts during ludum dare! :-) |
| Aug 26 05:47:00 | 9m 00s | Forward Motion | Very solid little game. The levels were interesting, and in some of them there seemed to be multiple ways to finish. The graphics went along really well with the game, and so did the sound effects.

The one thing that bothered me in this game were the controls: for a fast paced platformer, the keys would get stuck from time to time, and I wouldn't jump when I wanted to, so sometimes controlling the game felt clunky.

Also, I would have loved a windowed mode, but that is personal preference.

Great game, thanks! |
| Aug 26 06:25:00 | 38m 00s | A AAA Aardvark Construction Co. | That is a pretty neat idea that you had. I love building things, so this game calls to me. Also, you did some work trying to come up with interesting rules for scoring.

That said, I think this game does not go along very well with the 10 seconds limit. There is very little time for experimenting, and very little info from the game to learn the rules.

If you want to improve the game, I'd suggest making changes that gave more info to the player. One big example is the final scoring screen: it completely covers the house that I just build, so there is no way for me to try to look back and link building decisions to the score.

Also, the door placing mechanism is kinda hard to get.

But thanks for the game, it was different from what I have played so far :-)

Here is a video review: http://youtu.be/88UXkwzMaDA |
| Aug 26 06:45:00 | 20m 00s | No Time: 10 Lost Seconds | I really liked the 3D models that you inserted into the game. The tower was really cool.

That said, the "fetch quest" did not make for a very interesting game. The robots following me gave me a bit of a sense of pressure, but after a while it just became boring to find the last "second".

Also the dialogue was a bit too pretentious ;-)

Thanks for the game, and have a video review here: http://youtu.be/3QB_cCSNNhU |
| Aug 26 06:50:00 | 5m 00s | 10 seconds for Cactusman | Could not play the game on my Windows machine, even though I have python installed :-(. Maybe you should try a binary package?

Cheers! |
| Aug 26 07:02:00 | 12m 00s | 10 Second Sculptor | That was a pretty neat game! The idea is original, and I had a lot of fun playing with it. Some ideas:

-> It would be cool to have a "free-drawing" mode
-> Some sound effects when you put down blocks (blop blop) would be fun
-> A reminder of the hotkeys would be useful - midway through the game I forgot the "skip" hotkey, and could not find it again.

Thanks for the game! I recorded a playthrough: http://youtu.be/8979etXUihg |
| Aug 26 07:15:00 | 13m 00s | Seconds | Interesting game. It works, but it gets repetitive real fast. Maybe there are too many levels for each "second"?

-> Maybe adding a progress bar would make the game seem to be "moving on"?

-> Maybe adding a few more enemies to enhance variety?

Thanks for the game, and here is a video review: http://youtu.be/IlPGVu7RmME |
| Aug 26 07:40:00 | 25m 00s | Entropy | Loved this game. The music and ambient sounds are wonderful, and the graphics give the game a very nice atmosphere. The game is challenging, but starts out easy enough, and the controls are crisp :-)

I would like to see some sound effects associated with actions (jumping, bombing, getting hurt, etc), but other than that that was a great game!

Here is the video of me playing it: http://youtu.be/KFwniwqJsLM |
| Aug 26 07:42:00 | 2m 00s | 10 Seconds to Save the World | Sorry, I tried to play your game, but it would not run - I just got a blank screen :-( |
| Aug 26 07:57:00 | 15m 00s | Shift | First: The tune is neat, I loved that tune.

You took a very common style (WASD shooter), and you added a lot of little nice twists to it. I liked the "rewind" effect every time I collected an objective, and I really like the small, discreet dots pointing to the next objective.

One possible improvement is that it is still easy to fall on the "Where is the last goal?" syndrome in this game. Maybe the goal indicators should have a longer range.

Cheers, and thanks for the game! Have a video: http://youtu.be/k_i6TFU4TqA |
| Aug 26 08:25:00 | 28m 00s | The Village of Lost Time | Hello Epace! Thanks for the game. The graphics were really neat, and your idea for gameplay based on the theme was spot on. The game was a bit "chatty" in the beginning, but the story took a nice turn in the end.

Two weak points you could try to work on:
- Sound: I think the game could use somewhat better sound effects, and a bit of music
- Bugs: Towards the end, sometimes spirits that I had killed would crop up again - maybe the game was losing track of some of the warriors?

Anyway, thanks again for the game, it was really good.

Here is a video of me playing it before this review:
http://youtu.be/mvMs9BogmqA |
| Aug 26 08:39:00 | 14m 00s | Detective Awesomepants | That was a very well polished game, and you are a great sprite artist :-)

The game was funny, although I couldn't quite make the reasoning for some of the puzzle solutions.

Here is my playthrough on this game, as you requested! (sorry for the sound quality!) http://youtu.be/qbbJssZ8WMY |
| Aug 26 09:10:00 | 31m 00s | Mission: Save Gliese | Hey, thanks for showing me this game.

The general idea was nice, and some of your level design was good. But I think there is a lot in this game that comes as a "surprise" to the player - it is really hard to gauge how much damage we will take from asteroids - some asteroids cause lots of damage, some cause little. There are also some upgrades that don't seem to make a lot of sense: "hack"?

If I could give you a suggestion, I would remove a lot of the unnecessary complexities of the game (like the varying damage from the asteroids, the 25 levels), and instead use that time and effort to add polish, like sounds, etc.

Cheers, and thanks for the game!

LP: http://youtu.be/OGxYmasVH8E |
| Aug 26 09:30:00 | 20m 00s | Pugnator | That was a nice use of the theme: Random buffs/debuffs every 10 seconds! I liked it.

The game is still a little rough, but I think it has a lot of potential.

As a suggestion, I think you need to give the player more information: Put the life somewhere a little more obvious, give information about what is the debuff that just happened, and, specially, give some indication about what direction is the exit.

I hope you can iron out this game further :-D

Here is my video playthrough: http://youtu.be/zJqAB55vE5U

(PS: I think you are not allowed to use graphics from other people's games to that extent in the Compo. Cheers) |
| Aug 28 13:36:00 | 52h 06m | Anachroma | Hey Vandriver, this is a very fun game. Nintendo-hard, maybe, but I like having my ass kicked like that.

The two commands affecting the death timer in different ways is a cool idea.

I think this game deserves a lot of love in the shape of nicer graphics, and maybe some backstory, but as it is I liked playing it a lot!

Here is a video review for you: http://youtu.be/Ev3zV4j8TC4
Thanks for the game! |
| Aug 28 13:44:00 | 8m 00s | E.B.D.S | Hey Egg Thanks for reviewing my game! I made a video review of yours: http://youtu.be/c31TVSdkEKo

I loved the "cutout" graphics, and the level music! The game is reasonably fun.

One thing that disappointed me IMMENSELY is that there is no big boom when a village is destroyed.

If there is no big BOOM, Democracy has already won. :-)

Thanks for the game! |
| Aug 28 14:05:00 | 21m 00s | sine | Hey! Thanks for the review!

This is a different kind of game. Neat! I liked that you took the time to make a tutorial and an animated title screen! That makes the game look more polished. :-)

As for the game itself... I don't know exactly why, I did not feel I was very much in control for some reason. It was hard to time the sun flares and the stars moving around, and I was quite surprised that you didn't get a second rocket, although I understand your reasons for it.

Well, thanks for the game, and I made a video record of my play-through, if you are interested!
http://youtu.be/WXl8OzFP4Hc |
| Aug 28 14:21:00 | 16m 00s | 10 Seconds of Light | Hey Zerebruin, thanks for the review!

I liked this game - it is a neat idea to play the game in the dark. I also liked the music.

I think that the "gun" felt a bit out of place. Instead of making the gun, you could have used Mouse button 2 to allow for Camera rotation - I think that would be much more in line with the kind of game you have here.

Also, I think it would be cool if the light faded in and out, instead of instantly turning on and off :-)

Thanks for the game, and here is a video review, I hope you like it!
http://youtu.be/y65ArTvquSA |
| Aug 28 14:39:00 | 18m 00s | squaredare | Hello! Thanks for trying to play my game!

I think it is very important to have a high score table, even if you can't share it! It gives people a reason to try and play your game a second, or third time.

I think you have a nice idea here, but your game needs a lot of polish. Some very immediate examples:

- Make a menu or start screen: when I launch your game, it already starts, so the player will be confused! A launch screen is not that hard to add.
- add a border of blocks around the screen to determine play area.
- maybe make a rising difficulty level? it seems that the difficulty level is constant across the game.

I hope to see you on your next LD!
And here is a video of me playing your game, I hope you enjoy it: http://youtu.be/54qiCWVSGM4 |
| Aug 28 15:01:00 | 22m 00s | Lost in the Darkness | Awesome game! I really liked it, even though it was a bit too hard for me - I didn't manage to save even one friend! I guess I suck at "hot/cold" games :-(

But I really like your choice of music and sound effects: the little guys are terribly creepy! And the bad ending is great :-)

Thanks for the game, and I hope you enjoy my video review:
http://youtu.be/161iPzyL1EU |
| Aug 28 15:26:00 | 25m 00s | Ten Seconds of Night | Hey, that is a really neat idea. Too bad that you didn't have time to polish the game. The player would get stuck in corners way to frequently, and the werewolf behavior was a bit too erratic.

I would love to see sound effects when the villagers died. Things like "aaah" and "uurgh" :-)

Also, once a villager (I think?) gave me wolfsbane and I died, but the death screen went away too quickly and I couldn't read anything :-(

Thanks for the game, and here is a playthrough video:
http://youtu.be/_PX4Fr6uZkM |
| Aug 28 15:42:00 | 16m 00s | Hadean Rampage | Hey there! Sorry for taking so long, here is your video review: http://youtu.be/tnrUkFSehx0

I really liked the overall "style" of this game. But the windows and tiny text annoyed me a little bit. I would click through windows without being able to read them WAY too frequently.

I loved the enemy characters.

Some things that could improve in the game: Animations and death animations for the enemies -- some sort of feedback when the character is attacked from behind.

Also, your packaging is really weird. I downloaded a zip named "windows", and the program itself is named "10 seconds", even if the name of the game is something else. :-P

Thanks for the game, and see you around! |
| Aug 29 13:36:00 | 21h 54m | EcoStar vs Aeronox | Hey Dream team! Sorry for taking so long to get to your game!

So, I've played all the way to the end, it took me three tries. Here are my impressions:

The Good
* Loved the graphics. I specially LOVED that the enemy ships take damage. Loved the "you win" graphics :-)
* The shield mechanic is really clever. Took me a while to get it into my mental checklist, but when I did, it integrated into the game pretty flawlessly.
* Really liked the music. Is it just me, or does it seem to get more intense when you get to the final wave?
* Difficulty curve seems to be right there. Died at the final wave quite a few times, but got a little better each time.

The bad:
* I think you need better feedback for the Elemental Shot. I was failing the elemental shot all the time, because there was no clear notice that it was fully charged.
* It seems that there is a bug where all the enemies only shoot water shots.
* I didn't really like the score font. I feel it contrasts too much with the rest of the game style.

The minor:
* I felt that the changes between the power ups (except the multiple shot) were kinda hard to notice.

Finally, as promised, I made a video of my playthrough, from first play through until the spoilery ending. The video is semi-private (you can only access it with the url) and it is here. Hope it helps!

http://youtu.be/mmRPxD5fzAg

For the others: This video contains spoilers! I'll release a non-spoilery video later in my journal! |
| Aug 29 15:20:00 | 1h 44m | Scraith | That was a very cool use of the theme, and the hand-draw graphics fit pretty well as well.

But to be quite honest, I got completely lost in the game. There was a huge, open field, with no sort of hint of where I should go.

If you didn't want to give very obvious hints, maybe make tall places in your level, so that the player could look for the smoke column of the orbs?

Also, don't make Q the button to quit the game when AWSD moves. That is a recipe for disaster :-D

Cheers, and thanks for the game! Here is a video review:
http://youtu.be/mfPozVJION0 |
| Aug 29 15:40:00 | 20m 00s | Ghost Robot Time | I had a lot of fun playing this game! The menu screens are super smart, and controls responsive. A very efficient game :-)

Two suggestions:
1- I can't quit the game by closing the window... don't do that man!
2- MOAR LEVELS!

Cheers, and here is a video review:
http://youtu.be/1Iv9myQtZ7E |
| Aug 29 16:01:00 | 21m 00s | Anti - Explosive Babies | Heh, funny but frustrating game. Awesome audio! The baby story is kinda all over the place, but it makes you cackle when you get frustrated with the game and just start throwing the babies into the spikes for fun.

What kind of hospital has exploding spikes in the baby pens?

Thanks for the game, and here is a video review for you:
http://youtu.be/yioYFjuXgEU |
| Aug 29 16:30:00 | 29m 00s | Will you beat 10 seconds? | Heh, you did something truly unique here, I salute you!

To be quite honest, I didn't have much fun - the controllers were kinda hard to understand. But I totally respect what you did :-) I hope you have time to develop the context further.

Maybe make the game a bit slower, so that the player has time to learn how to control the shooters, instead of just randomly shaking the controller, would help in the fun aspect. Sound effects would also make a world of difference!

Now, from one android developer to another: Do you REALLY need to ask for "read phone status permission"? That is a super invasive permission, and you don't really need it for a game.

Oh, here is a small video of me playing your game (just the desktop side though):
http://youtu.be/P1_PckO074s |
| Sep 2 13:27:00 | 92h 57m | Oxy | Hey, thanks for the game. I think that, for a first try, this was really well done. There were no glaring bugs, the gameplay was clear, the controls were crisp.

Of course, you can work a little bit more on the graphics - specially the messages on the bottom, they were kinda hard to notice and read, but I think you got something really nice going on here!

Thanks for the game, and here is a video review :-)
http://youtu.be/idprISufHPI |
| Sep 2 13:38:00 | 11m 00s | Ten Zero-Zero | What are the commands? Lol, that intro is too long.

Congrats on making a game, but I didn't even manage to figure how to play it :-(

Well, I liked the doo-dee-doo.

Here is the video review:
http://youtu.be/RuunMqtryAw |
| Sep 2 13:40:00 | 2m 00s | Timebullet | I couldn't run your game, sorry. The executable crashed whenever I tried to run it! :-( |
| Sep 2 14:09:00 | 29m 00s | CaptureZ | Hey thanks for the game! It is a very novel and interesting idea, but to be quite honest, I couldn't handle the controls very well - the camera moved around too chaotically for my taste, and I had a really hard time trying to predict where my own character would move.

Maybe add some sort of camera control or mini map to the game?

Thanks for the game, and here is my video review - hope it helps you with the post compo!
http://youtu.be/CG3lld8zVvM |
| Sep 2 14:26:00 | 17m 00s | The last time crystals | Thanks for the game!

Some suggestions for improvement:
- Don't put "Q" as a reset/exit key when the controls are WASD: players WILL press Q by mistake
- Your game would be SO MUCH better with some simple sound effects! You should try the program "SFXR" for creating those.

I think if you fix these two things, your game will improve 10 times :-)

Thanks for the game, and here is a gameplay video:
http://youtu.be/uWyRWSLeB6g |
| Sep 2 14:43:00 | 17m 00s | Defuse | Nice and sweet game, short and to the point. The lack of sound is a great disservice to this game, but other than that I really liked it!

Have a video review :-)
http://youtu.be/pUlP6yTNfFw |
| Sep 2 15:07:00 | 24m 00s | Et je vous laisse | Hello!

That was a really cool idea for the game. I liked your choice for graphics and for the music.

I think the game is a bit rough in some places:
- It would be nice to have an explicit, even if subtle, timer somewhere: I had no idea how much time I had left.
- Also, it would be nice if the game had a title screen, and if I could re-start the game without having to quit and re-start the program.

Anyway, thanks for the game, and I look forward a post-compo version!

Here is my video review for you (pardon for butchering the French!):
http://youtu.be/Dv_kXWpNlbc |
| Sep 2 15:26:00 | 19m 00s | Dan Dynamite | Hey, Thanks for the game! I really liked that when you died, you went right back to the start, without any delays - I think any hard action game should have this feature.

I hope you work a bit more in your game - if you add some music and sounds (check Autotracker and BFXR), you can improve your game a lot.

Cheers, and here is a video review:
http://youtu.be/pb2GWFK0NMo |
| Sep 2 15:47:00 | 21m 00s | Short Nightmares | I really like the use of the Theme, the mood and the audio for this game!

I got pretty lost in there, I'm not sure if it is the gamma, but I got completely stuck at the fourth dream.

Maybe it would be a nice idea that you got switched between different dreams when the timer ended, instead of just being sent back to the beginning of your current dream?

Thanks for the game, and have a video review:
http://youtu.be/AHn-Stre4dA |
| Sep 2 16:04:00 | 17m 00s | Step Out | That was a very smart game. The pacing was a bit slow, but the puzzles were quite smart. I didn't get very far in my video review, but I hope you like it:

http://youtu.be/tTguuVvOXVY |
| Sep 2 16:31:00 | 27m 00s | Hungry Fishers Dream Team | Awesome game like aways, Tio!

I really liked the graphics and the music. The idea of switching screens was absolutely charming :-) The game was also helluva fun.

One little thing, I felt the controls were a bit "clunky". I'm not sure if you were aiming for that, but it was really hard to aim with the fisher. I felt almost as if I were playing on a mechanic controller.

Thanks for the game, and have a video review:
http://youtu.be/cfRu5zJ4kOc

(By the way, did you ever publish your earlier games to the play store?) |
| Sep 2 17:02:00 | 31m 00s | Keg Quest | That was a pretty awesome game. The puzzles were interesting, and the dwarf switching mechanic was really clever.

I'm just sad that no Dwarf Fortress references were made :-P

Here is a longer video review:
http://youtu.be/rKTDaacwyr8 |
