Apr 29 20:16:00 BiT I cannot run this entry because there does not appear to be a link to the game.
Apr 29 20:37:00 21m 00s BareBones I was unable to review this game because I was blocked by dropbox, even after signing in! Sorry!
Apr 29 20:41:00 4m 00s Unfinite Same here on both firefox and chrome.
Apr 29 20:55:00 14m 00s Forest for the Tree Very nice! I had trouble figuring out exactly how to play: but I like having to figure out how to play a game. At some point I scrolled a ways away to check if there was a cluster nearby, and realized that without a "home" button one could become impossibly lost! <br/> <br/>Once I realized that there is indeed an element of danger, I was able to continue playing for quite some time before getting board. All in all, good job! <br/> <br/>I didn't like the metaphor at the beginning though. Such a lovely abstract game, why include "people" why not just call them nodes?
Apr 29 21:14:00 19m 00s 50Coins I downloaded the linux file, but am unsure what application to use to run it. I gave it permission to be executed and ran it from the command-line. The output was: There is no data folder.
Apr 29 21:19:00 5m 00s Combattant I played once, but couldn't hadoken. I beat my enemy in the same way I would have in Street Fighter though: duck and kick at the same time. <br/> <br/>I'm impressed that you made a fighting game like this in 48 hours!
Apr 29 23:14:00 1h 55m Minimalistic Dota Clone (+ Osmos) No instructions on how to play this game?
Apr 29 23:15:00 1m 00s Robbery Link to source is broken?
Apr 30 00:12:00 57m 00s Boxy This was a good game! It had a quick twitchy kind of addictive game-play, similar in many ways to "Three Body Problem". I played until level 4, but which time I had already activated Potato Mode. <br/> <br/>I got quite good at hovering in place, but one must also learn to flee. While I am not convinced that a context for this was necessary, the choice of "spy avoiding capture" is pretty fitting. I hover until my cover is blown, and then I have to speed away without... touching the walls!
Apr 30 00:30:00 18m 00s Rokhopr Very unique control scheme. I love when games ask me to learn a completely new activity. Rapidly tapping or clicking anything can be a bit of a pain though :) <br/> <br/>I also like the simple but evocative visuals that didn't demand that I make a particular choice of interpretations. Many games I've played so far have similarly abstract visuals, but on the title screen they demand that I choose a particular interpretation. <br/> <br/>At first I thought I was a frog with one eye, but later I decided I was a space creature.
Apr 30 00:37:00 7m 00s The Creation You nailed it. This is a person who has a clear understanding of subtlety and design. I hope everyone plays this!
Apr 30 00:49:00 12m 00s BASHLAND - Breakout Mario Mashup This is the game you wished you were playing all those times you played breakout. I enjoyed gradually realizing what I was looking at, and learning to ride up through objects instead of just bouncing off them. <br/> <br/>Interesting emergent mechanic (maybe you intended this): while 1-ups didn't seem to matter much but if you try to go through the level destroying EVERYTHIGN you quickly find that dying means the end. <br/> <br/>Very very nice. 48 hours? You are a hero.
Apr 30 01:41:00 52m 00s Just Shapes Intense! The music is the thing that really does it, so 5/5 for that. In later levels you could have more polygons that are potentially difficult to tell apart since, despite the intense presentation, one could solve this game by just grabbing a shape and waiting. <br/> <br/>They wouldn't get the high score though!
Apr 30 01:52:00 11m 00s Friendship in a Post-Apocalyptic World This was OK. The music got to me after a while. I like the premise though.
Apr 30 01:58:00 6m 00s DropPix When I looked at the rules I thought "oh this will be neat!" But the challenge just wasn't there. The 3 level (where you write an S) contained the game play elements that would have made this better,
Apr 30 02:08:00 10m 00s Unst Nice puzzler. Actually, this is pretty hard and I actually failed in the 3rd or 4th level. However, there is no "quite" or "reset" button built in (or none evident). <br/> <br/>I like games that teach game-play simply and gradually, and this is definitely that.
Apr 30 02:17:00 9m 00s MiniCity I agree with the comments above that say there is not enough feedback. The idea of painting the world with brighter colours is good, but not quite enough.
Apr 30 02:40:00 23m 00s Pix This was a fun puzzler! The beeping became a little annoying. I got to about level 18, at which point I thought things were starting to get challenging. I liked the addition of orange blocks that server as, um... overpasses? Are there more blocks later? <br/> <br/>Thanks for releasing a Linux port! Do you have twitter? I'd like to call you out for this lovely game.
Apr 30 02:51:00 11m 00s FLIP This is one of the few games so far that has gotten a "Mood" rating from me. The sudden change in colour and particle effect that starts when you hit a red square is golden. <br/> <br/>The game itself is fast paced and fun.
Apr 30 03:08:00 17m 00s Minimalism Tower Defence Very cool! It pushes the non-verbal aspect pretty hard and I like that. A comment I would make is: make learning a rewarding activity all by itself. What I mean is, when I click on the right button or make the right decision, reward me with satisfying light and colour or feedback. That, I feel, would be enough.
Apr 30 03:23:00 15m 00s 20 Seconds This is great! I got 360 points. Waiting is fine, people are wimps :) <br/> <br/>I would like you to set up google analytics if you haven't already: I'd like to know how long people spend on the game. Also, world-wide leader board please. <br/> <br/>Something else that's neat about this game is that later, you could implement more mini-games and throw them in without telling anyone. Only the most patient players would be able to discover the truth. <br/> <br/>Did you ever play VESPER5?
Apr 30 03:34:00 11m 00s Home Very challenging game: I managed to win after many many tries. The gravity effect is neat, but this game doesn't succeed in making it feel like gravity (Osmos does this, for example). I think it would be better if you were in orbit around the sun, having to adjust that orbit and use gravity wells to throw yourself around. <br/> <br/>Good job for 48 hours though!
Apr 30 03:40:00 6m 00s Jump 76 Fool! Boom! <br/> <br/>More content would have been good, but interestingly I found the invitation to post scores quite encouraging. I played many times to get my high score.
Apr 30 03:59:00 19m 00s ASCII 219 This was fun at first, but perhaps a little long. The fuzzy background was a little hard to stomach, though I realize it was chosen to add mood. The game reminds me of some Sega Genesis exploration game I played when I was a kid, or of Super Metroid (wall jumping!). <br/> <br/>Tricky and fun, though! Good job!
Apr 30 04:02:00 3m 00s Potato Gnomes Online I waited at the title screen... but there were no other players. Sorry!
Apr 30 04:18:00 16m 00s Dungeoneer This is my favourite entry so far (at this moment I have reviewed about 25 games). It was very clever to combine a text adventure with something else, and the strange, moody block collecting mini-game that decides your fate is perfect. <br/> <br/>I think you could take this farther, and make a text adventure that linked to a whole ton of neat puzzles, moody scenes or activities, and information. <br/> <br/>Thanks for this!
Apr 30 04:27:00 9m 00s Naked Shades I didn't win... I made lots of Lamia run away, but in the end I think I got lost. Maybe I'll make a map next time.
Apr 30 04:41:00 14m 00s Ethical Spud I was not able to balance a budget...
Apr 30 04:58:00 17m 00s DeaN This is a really lovely entry. I was sad that the story mode just suddenly turned into an endless walk... was that intended? Game mode was innovative in the sense that the danger was not you being killed by an obstacle, but rather that you want to avoiding killing them. <br/> <br/>I killed a little girl with a balloon... It was an accident!
Apr 30 05:08:00 10m 00s Hipster Annihilator 9000 I gave this a remarkably high score, considering that it isn't like __amazing__. I think you pretty much hit the button with this as far as LD48 entries go. <br/> <br/>It preminded me of a game about the Turing test: an online multiplayer game in which cyborg hunters interview cyborgs... and each other!
Apr 30 05:20:00 12m 00s Join Wow! That got really hard really fast. It takes good advantage of the human brain for sure: when I cross the screen and feel like "right!" and it should be left. <br/> <br/>The music and visuals are spot on, and the encouraging music you get when you die is a very nice touch. I felt like the game was cheering me on!
Apr 30 05:25:00 5m 00s Distradiction Distraction is an elegant and simple distraction. It felt like the tutorial for a game.
Apr 30 05:57:00 32m 00s One By One High score: 9 points! This is a challenging and cool puzzle game that doesn't patronize the player with instruction. I really like that the most exposition we encounter is the title, which moves in a way the evokes the game's core mechanic. It took me a while to solve the first puzzle where the black piece had moved: nice! <br/> <br/>Very full game-play for such a minimalist game!
Apr 30 06:17:00 20m 00s Uber Tic Tac Toe Couldn't play the game, but I you score high for theme and humour. (and sympathy points from someone with similar problems)
Apr 30 06:23:00 6m 00s Planes Wonderful! Really captures the feel of those old games. The sound, the embedded graphics. Perfect! Not particularly challenging, but certainly a winner.
Apr 30 06:26:00 3m 00s Dwalk I got trapped in the instruction screen and couldn't play. I guess I'll clear my cache?
Apr 30 06:38:00 12m 00s MiniCrawl Very cool: I've often wanted to make a game like this. Classic ASCI play reminds me of Caverns of Kroz from my days on the Apple II.
May 5 23:53:00 137h 15m Bladeless Pretty cool, but I think I prefer Karateka.
May 6 00:10:00 17m 00s dotmove Beautiful! That was crafted with care, challenging, and very pretty. The piano sounds I made while I slid around the board were very delicate and great! I beat the game, for sure. Wow, this turns out to be one of my favourite games of the Dare.
May 7 06:26:00 30h 16m Robopotato I really like this concept, no doubt. However, I had a hard time motivating myself to play it. <br/> <br/>The reason is: your example solution to puzzle "apcxptadou" is 58 lines long. Those potatoes can all be gotten in 48 lines if you hard code the journey. It is probably possible to get the journey down below 48 lines, but not much. The overhead of each state makes the trade-off a very rough one. Maybe that is just one example, but I think it is probably telling (I solved two new puzzles, but each time found the hard coded solution shorter). <br/> <br/>Think of a time when you have used "magic numbers" or string literals in your code. Why did you do it? Probably it was an extremely particular case, like the numbers zero, one, or two; or it was a value that you really knew wasn't going to change. Mostly it is a lazy decision, but it can also be a very cost efficient decision: if the value is only used in a few places and the overhead of generalizing it would be costly, this is a good decision. <br/> <br/>In your game, the cost of generalizing a move is immense. Adding a new state costs at least 5 lines of overhead! Since the goal, beyond getting the potatoes, is to minimize lines of code I just can't see this going the way you want it to (read: the way I would want to play the game just isn't rewarded). <br/> <br/>If the goal of your game had been to develop a program that could solve more than one maze, then we would need to generalize rather than hard-wire our solutions. Similarly, instead of "get all the potatoes" you could have made the goal "explore as many tiles as possible." Then measure the length of the solution against the quality of the exploration it produced, and you would have yourself a fascinating little game (I imagine). <br/> <br/>Still, what you do have is really cool and impressive enough to deserve a good score. You also succeeded in really getting people talking: that's got to be worth bonus points!
May 7 07:08:00 42m 00s Crystal Of Shadows Very nice concept. You basically reversed the tower defence game. I really enjoyed slowly relearning to play. I wonder what other genres could benefit from such a reversal? <br/> <br/>I lost my first game, but the second game I just started by removing all my non-yellow mushrooms. I won shortly there-after without loosing a single crystal. Yellow is OP! :p
May 11 04:53:00 93h 45m PolyShot Because the bad-guys don't predict your movements, it was easy enough to just fly in a circle shooting. I liked the unintuitive notion of always shooting the center. Looked like it would have been better with 3D shades :)
May 11 05:08:00 15m 00s Bitman This was totally fun! I beat all the levels. I wish they had been more difficult. Good job my friend!
May 11 05:12:00 4m 00s MiniHarvest I couldn't figure out how to play... and the dude walks too slow. Its too bad my patience wore out because I like sims.
May 11 05:18:00 6m 00s Voider That was hilarious. I couldn't get more than a few points. I guess I need to work on my reflexes. Its amazing how a simple game like this can still have its own appeal.
May 11 05:25:00 7m 00s Untitled Part IIIa This game was great! It made me laugh out loud quite literally. First, I didn't know how to play. Then I realized it was a tower defence game. Then you moved my damn base! Then just when I thought I had you, suddenly I had two bases? And then four!!! <br/> <br/>┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻ <br/> <br/>Honestly though, really great game. Hidden genre, hidden controls, minimal visuals, brutally difficult.
May 11 06:23:00 58m 00s True treasure of Kartoffelschloss This was a very fun, very clever, and very complete entry. This game presented me with a slow release of awesome, culminating in a great ending. As I discarded my weapons I thought, "oh yeah this is the 'minimalism' I guess." Only when I gained psychic powers did I begin to suspect what the true treasure might be. <br/> <br/>Games like this -- that ask me to play a genre I'm familiar with in reverse -- are truly awesome. Reminded me of Death Death Evolution from a previous Ludum Dare.
May 11 06:55:00 32m 00s Doe Wow, what a thrill! The ending was too much (in a good way). I enjoy the combination of block pushing and dodging guards. The best part was definitely the mood, music, and mystery. I would have liked the "wall pushing" to play a larger role in the later stages (maybe it did and I just didn't push enough walls?). <br/> <br/>The fact that the game restarts rather than ending completely is... unsettling. Should I go back and play it through again?
May 11 16:01:00 9h 06m GridANT This reminded me of my second in game day of minecraft. The first day I was like "lovely, I will explore this vast world." That night I was surprised to find zombies. The next day was a frantic race against time. <br/> <br/>I loved that the ant gradually speeds up, so that game-play mimics my own attitude as I become more and more pressed for time. I made a small gravity defying, minimalist statue hoping to alert my captor of my vastly superior intellect. <br/> <br/>Alas...
May 11 16:23:00 22m 00s A cube story Maybe there is a problem with this game on linux? When I press buttons like "gravity" or "left" the effect in the game occurs after an intolerable lag, and then only little by little. Is this normal?
May 11 16:29:00 6m 00s Mime Over Matter Amazing that a game which, at its core, is a 48 hour game, could have become so popular.
May 11 16:33:00 4m 00s Minimal Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Couldn't load next level, no filename given?
May 11 16:44:00 11m 00s Black on Black I also had trouble understanding the mechanics. High score of 153 but no leader-board so no context for that number... I am all for games that don't explain themselves, especially puzzlers like this one, but you surely need to give a little more feedback to encourage right action.
May 11 17:14:00 30m 00s Pyramid This was a spectacular game. Man, my Barbaric Axe of Horror slew so many foes. I'm not a person who tends to play rogue-likes, so I actually had a learning curve to get over. My first play I thought I just had to avoid enemies. I got to about level 13. Once I realized I could sometimes kill them, I got further. When finally I started to get weapon upgrades, then I took off. I think I got to like, level 40? I imagine there are 99 levels (or maybe some power of 2?). <br/> <br/>Anyway: great mood, the little "plop" sound really made it for me. I played this again and again. I am curious about the AI, also. The orange guys seemed really shy, despite their power. <br/> <br/>Finally I died in an ambush...
May 16 05:13:00 107h 59m Lifebloom Had to wait a long time for other things to show up.
May 16 05:19:00 6m 00s Squared Nice. Brutally hard, but I got used to it pretty quick. High score was 11. I liked the mysterious unlabelled power ups. Good music for sure.
May 16 05:27:00 8m 00s [[[[ Neat thing you were doing there. Unfortunately there was something perhaps computationally intense going on, and gameplay slowed to a crawl. Maybe that's just me?
May 16 05:36:00 9m 00s BatWorld Nice concept. I was not able to play this game very well, but I think I will still rate it highly.
May 16 05:43:00 7m 00s Block Hat Funny little puzzler! Took a moment to figure out just how to play.
May 16 05:48:00 5m 00s Ellipse Madness The story was maybe a bad idea... but seriously dude this game is awesome! The screen shaking made the game transcended a normal level of cool into something amazing. The game itself is super simple, but really satisfying. I am totally happy to have stumbled across your entry.
May 16 05:56:00 8m 00s Escape Shaft Good fun game. Maybe not miminalist? That's OK though! I beat the game for sure, and found it reasonably challenging. Music and visuals were cool, and the blast and charge up were nice.
