LD35 — Shapeshift

Capital Offense by GAFBlizzard 2016-04-19T03:12:00

Huge bonus points for the remap phase at the start; international support FTW!

I really enjoyed this. It's largely self explanatory, but there's a really pleasurable learning phase, even if you instantly remember missile command. I thought the character mode graphics were pretty retro neat too.

There are some oddities in the spawn patterns (things spawning on top of each other) that could use some cleaning up perhaps. Have you considered designing the waves rather than going random?

Snakoban - 倉庫蛇 by Fonserbc 2016-04-20T17:11:00

That was super interesting to play. It's weird how intuitive the solutions were, even thought I can't quite explain what the full rules are?
Great job!

Lonely Mountain - A shape shifting tv series by Jod 2016-04-18T22:17:00

I really liked that. I did, unfortunately, succumb to the lure of Zombies. Good thing you didn't put period piece temptation in there too.

I did get where you're going with the theme, but I don't know if I buy it :)

Through Oneself by Omiya Games 2016-04-20T02:33:00

Really nice work, it started becoming second nature looking around the level through the keyhole for new features. There were a few places where it wasn't super clear to me what the form was on the other side, but experimentation always yielded the answer.

It would be great to try this out with really disparate, detailed scenes on both sides of the divide. Would it still read, or do you think you need these simple planes and clear colors to disambiguate the view?

Limber by Wefiends 2016-04-20T04:13:00

Loved this. The music was super catchy, the tone of the tutorial was awesome, loved the graphic design. All round star.

Also, I'm in a slightly better mood now, after playing this game. There's some Kimmy Schmidt level peppiness going on in there.

I saw you play my game on the VOD of your Twitch stream. Thank you so much for visiting!

Hexshaper by excaliburjs 2016-04-19T06:31:00

That was neat! Absorbing bullets is always a weird unsettling feeling. Works well with the theme.

Monster Jumper by panicq 2016-04-21T02:22:00

I unfortunately couldn't work out how to play the game. It looks like maybe the Windows(Update) link is actually AZERTY now? I'm on a QWERTY, and when I press Q, the bar on the left of the game screen is showing me A...

Shadow of the Red Hand by andyman404 2016-04-19T05:07:00

Loved everything about this, from the pretty silhouettes to the hipster synth; right up my alley.

Kudos, well played.

Tiny Critters by thegypsyknight 2016-04-19T16:32:00

Great work, very playable. I particularly like the bunny: great pro/con design.
You probably want to either find a longer music sample or just let this one fade out after a few loops.
I'd also suggest a much louder visual for the spike floors: they're really difficult to read. I definitely died a few times before I realized they were spikes, and even then I'd hit every new one I came across ones because I didn't see them.

The Big Fist by matt beckett 2016-04-19T06:48:00

Nice! Being able to travel horizontally that freely makes for interesting level design possibilities. It makes you think more about what's off screen and try to work out how to get height where there's line of sight to where you want to end up. I like it!

Will you continue to develop the idea? I'd happily play more levels.

The Maitre D by SeaDads 2016-04-20T01:45:00

This is genius. Shear genius. A complete pleasure to play through.

Shiftagon by VideoDog 2016-04-19T06:25:00

That's a pretty neat take on extending the flappy. I like it!

Maze Shift by HardlyDifficult 2016-04-22T03:36:00

That was good fun! It took me a bit to work out the movement strategy, but once I did it was pretty fun to explore two maps simultaneously. I only wish there were more clues about where the exit might be.

DBCEC210 Survey by subpixel 2016-04-19T06:41:00

Thanks everyone!
Per, yeah, I cheaped out and didn't write any collision filtering so there are a number of dumb things going on. Mea culpa!

Megalukes, thanks so much. I'm still working on the sound module for the imaginary console the game is running on, so I really appreciate any indication of progress there. I've never given audio engineering proper time; if I'd known that building sounds from oscillators was so much fun before, I'd have done this years ago!

pzeronow, you just shoot em :) A lot.

DBCEC210 Survey by subpixel 2016-04-19T06:43:00

Thanks ginger9. I totally agree, I had a whole set of levels planned, but this weekend just wasn't meant to be. Life, right?

So anyway, I shoved the ending and the beginning into the same screen and called it a jam. I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway ^__^

DBCEC210 Survey by subpixel 2016-04-19T17:08:00

Thanks for playing GAFBlizzard, I'm afraid I ran out of time and that's all there is. I wish I had time to at least add a fade to black and reset after a while.

BLOB Passage by Per 2016-04-18T22:20:00

I like where you're going with this, but it's pretty hard to correlate the blob and the holes from this view.
Great idea, needs some more work.

Shifter by sP0CkEr2 2016-04-19T05:23:00

Nicely done. I enjoyed watching the little robot at his work.
I'd recommend moving him a little off to the side though, so that he doesn't obscure the shape/color he's working on.

Don't Shapeshift by ginger9 2016-04-19T07:02:00

Really great start, I love the artwork, and I love any game that's trying to tell a story. I hope you keep going!

I had some pretty bad problems though: the camera kept floating away from the scene. I had to stop playing when in one scene it finally just floated off to the left and I couldn't see what was happening anymore. I was playing the Unity version, and I clicked through to play it on your site.

Tetrik's Cube by Munchy2007 2016-04-18T22:24:00

I enjoyed that. Really nice feel to the controls, just the right combination of snappy response and some weight.

Space Dimension by bigbatardyt 2016-04-21T02:33:00

I really like the concept for this, but the mechanics are still too shaky to enjoy: in level 1, I can get past the first shift, but I have no clue what's going on after that and I just die repeatedly :(

Seriously though, I love the concept, I hope you move it along further!
