LD29 — Beneath the Surface

The Sea Has No Claim by dukope 2014-05-02T14:15:00

One of the most fun entries I must say, as has been the case with all your games I've played. Obviously the compo version suffers severely from the lack of sound, but the idea is very sound and well-executed.

The post-mortem version is simply a 5-star production. The only thing that spoils it is that it crashes when a wreck is found (I have flash player 13).

Subterranean Extermination by Fritzendugan 2014-04-29T06:40:00

Pretty much a remake of Dig Dug. It's OK, save for glitches which appear after resetting the game.

Behind the Bookcase by Fib 2014-05-01T18:32:00

Sadly, this game doesn't seem to have received enough love. The most jarring aspect of it is how short it is, considering that it is story-driven. The story isn't communicated in the game in any way either, with the description giving the only information on what is going on. Presumably you've had too little time, like me.

sirtet by ahnt 2014-04-29T19:21:00

A nice demake, as well as fulfilling the current theme. The only doubts I have are the backgrounds – the Kremlin, some awfully-scaled gears and a cave?

FedIt! by zedutchgandalf 2014-04-29T06:28:00

A mostly-original idea and mostly fun, but the mechanism of
friendly fire against food made it a little too hard and finicky to play to be really fun.

Drill Fish by meszka 2014-04-30T18:38:00

A very original idea, considering how many platformers there are and how few digging games in comparison. My only problem with it is the very finicky and awkward control scheme, which made going where I wanted impossible.

My Little Secret by Thein 2014-04-29T07:04:00

Fun, scary and quite surprising (ending 4), but the sluggishness of the interaction is agonising. And shift/x still doesn't speed anything up in the web version.

Sub Bomber by Rahazan 2014-05-02T21:24:00

In short, a fantastic effort for such a short length of time. I had a similarly-constrained time frame to do my entry, yet nowhere did I get as far as you.

They Lurk Beneath by Nega Drive 2014-04-30T17:43:00

A good game in nearly all respects. The only thing I found lacking were power-ups, which would've added a little variety to the gameplay and perhaps made it possible to survive a little longer. The usage of the shift key is also an issue on Windows.

OMNOMNOM by brogrammers 2014-04-29T09:41:00

Looks promising, but unfortunately the movement mechanics are very cumbersome and force the player to mash buttons. There's a little problem with fridge logic, too: why would an anglerfish have to swim up to the surface to live/breathe? Other than that, w00t for the awsum 3D and Beethoven's 9th Symphony (2nd movement)!

An Osterreich tale, or something about ostriches by Marcellus 2014-04-29T17:07:00

A fresh twist to the otherwise heavily-populated genre of top-down tile RPGs. The principle is excellent, though very challenging when considering the large number of obstacles and the few sand mounds. I must admit that after two dozen or so tries I gave up.

The graphics and sound appear rather basic and follow a style that I don't personally like (think 1990s GeoCities).

As for the humour and mood, it surely deserves to be considered one of the wackier games.

Back To the Surface by Ken Ichi 2014-04-30T15:11:00

The game surely holds its premise very well, and its play time is much longer than I expected. Unfortunately, the sticky jump bug is quite annoying and gets in the way of enjoying the game fully.

Gravitas by m12y 2014-04-29T09:27:00

I am most impressed by the gravity turning mechanic. Too bad it's a little lacking in other respects.

Cookie by sink_t 2014-04-29T10:24:00

In the current (submitted on time) version the score is supposed to be the number of bunker tiles in a 5x5 square around the detonation point. In practice, this is done with a piece of magical voodoo potato, whose precise workings haven't been deciphered yet.

Asteroid Tycoon by BadgerPriest 2014-04-30T19:18:00

A decent production, though there doesn't seem to be any way to lose. The gameplay is basically limited to clicking for more robots. There's no way to control the robots, either, which means one has to rely on the AI, which, obviously, does not always do what the player wants.

The really bad part is the music. It's simply repetitively obnoxious. I muted my browser and listened to Beethoven instead.

Beneath the Surface by bowatatoy 2014-04-29T10:18:00

A very dark and atmospheric experience, magnified by the switching of perspectives. Sadly, it's barely a game. There's literally only one choice (as far as I have seen), which makes it more like (non)-interactive fiction than a video game.

The MS Paint graphics, with no straight lines at all, give a decent effect with such irregular shapes as humans, but look
terrible when applied to furniture.

On a side note, I have noticed that female developers (the author signs herself (?) as "donkeywoman") often include rape in their plot, as has been also the case with "Rebuild" (by sarahnorthway at Armor Games).

Fake Zoo by v3games 2014-04-29T18:17:00

An original game with potential, but again, the realisation failed. More precisely, the controls are extremely poor and pretty much random in their functioning. Of particular note is the constantly flicking volume meter, which is not only very annoying but mostly useless.

Tank Game by perfect victim 2014-04-29T18:56:00

1. Off-theme
2. Doesn't look too promising
3. Unfinished

European water vole ATTACK by Scam 2014-05-02T14:21:00

Generally good. Not exactly polished, but the idea is very successful, in my opinion.

Tiny C by M4rw4 2014-04-30T15:54:00

A basic shoot 'em up game, except you don't shoot but avoid. Making the player character expand when damaged is original,
I believe, and a good idea too. It's playable, but the story and the theme is missing.

Geology Rocks by theengineers 2014-04-29T19:03:00

Violating Newton's 3rd law of motion is SO FUN! Troll physics FTW, please don't fix it!

sunken by pragmascript 2014-05-02T16:14:00

You've really managed to pull off something complete complete with eye candy, which is way more than I had managed to do within several hours.

ACME by cobhc6 2014-04-29T16:36:00

Played it with a browser anyway, since I don't have a mac. Looks distantly fun for now, though the way those boobs are animated is simply disgusting. Can't see any bit of the theme here, either.

Mars Station 23 by wicht 2014-04-29T18:24:00

Either I missed something, or this game basically records all of your actions and replays it later, only with more blood. Sorry, but I can't see the game or any fun in it.
