LD55 — Summoning

Bean and Brew by RunicPixels 2024-04-17T21:27:02Z

Very nice! The style is what captivated me the most, great job on all the assets and models here. The overall core mechanic was a neat way of incorporating the main theme, and made it so you had to approach basic things like jumping a bit more thoughtfully. My critiques are that hugging walls impedes your vertical momentum, so jumping off frogs can be limited. Frogs seem to get double-summoned at times too. Also as a technical issue, the music seems to bug out and glitch on browser. In summary though, good job!

Neat puzzle game, reverse-push block puzzles isn't a concept I've seen done much before so it was a real brain teaser trying to figure it out in comparison to typical block pushers. A few of the later ones really made me struggle (level 13 especially!) but it was satisfying to finally figure them out. Good job including an undo feature as well! That was very helpful.

Ordinary Wizards Doing Ordinary Things by Fupi 2024-04-22T16:41:58Z

I enjoyed this game a lot! The visual style was very charming, and the concept as a whole was an amusing spin on the main theme. The variety of different jobs unlocking was a neat way to make it feel like progression was being made, and each having an associated sound effect made for a good way to tell them apart at a sort of glance. One suggestion is that buying a wizard should also be attached to a button input, just so they could be bought while doing other tasks and streamline the process a bit. Some other visual notification of when or how much money was received from a job would also be nice. Still, a very charming game that I enjoyed!

Thank you for the very kind comment on our game as well. Very much appreciated!

Butler! Summon the Imps! by jummbus 2024-04-17T21:49:02Z

Very well done! I am quite impressed by this project. The overall presentation was outstanding (though a volume slider would have been appreciated), and the inclusion of multiple levels shows how efficient you were. The art in particular is very nicely done. One criticism I do have though is something that shows which imps you are about the send, akin to the Next indicator, but more prominent. I frequently found myself believing what was shown in Next was what I was going to shoot that turn.

Hellmouth Pizza by FunnyPumpkin 2024-04-22T16:57:26Z

The artstyle is very well done, I commend this game's artist for everything in it. The game itself was a bit tricky and took some getting used to when playing, the lack of an in-game tutorial was a bit strange as I hadn't read over the full web page beforehand. The short timer on orders and lack of feedback on what was wrong with your order was also confusing. Additionally, several toppings can look similar at the small size of the pizza request at the top right, which messed with me a bit. Once I fell into the groove though, it was an engaging game and I was kept on my toes to complete orders faster and not run out of time. As a suggestion, maybe the timer could start more generously at the game's beginning, then become shorter with more satisfied customers? Just a thought. Good job overall though!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Vox Regis by Sheepolution 2024-10-14T18:25:27Z

Very unique! I was quite impressed with the visuals, both those based on photographs and the plentiful nicely drawn sprites. The overall gameplay loop and mechanics took me a minute to get a hang of, but once I understood it I thought it was an engaging cycle. It was interesting to find that the real thing to focus on was how many Complaints there were, rather than the number of total members of each faction. The number of faction members only gives you a target, while the number of complaints basically acts like your ammunition count. It was fun to balance the two. A creative use of the theme as well! Not literally tiny creatures, but tiny from your perspective. The voice lines were charming too, nice job with those. Overall, quite the impressive project for this jam!

Pot Life by chuckeles 2024-10-14T18:47:56Z

Nice concept! Works pretty well, and it was neat seeing the magnifying glass work and watching the creatures mill about and live for generations. As a suggestion, a timer to show how long the game has been going long for (either in real time or "in-game" time if you want to say several days are passing) and some ambient backing music would be nice. Also, some more variety in the creature colors or designs. An effective little concept and interesting flow to watch regardless, so nice job.

Snail away by Thomas_Bringer 2024-10-14T18:09:04Z

Very cute! The style was quite charming, and kudos for stylizing the itch page to match. The wall climbing mechanic was simple but effective, and detaching from walls was a neat way to keep it interesting. The mushrooms were the best part though, you got the bounce very satisfying! Good job with the music too, I enjoy the frog croaks. Overall, nice job!

Tiny Adventure by Becher 2024-10-14T18:38:37Z

Interesting idea! i like the theme you're going for here, extra kudos for making the tiny text in the tutorial image readable enough to know what some directions are without breaking the style (like labelling buttons for dodge and attack). I would be curious to see how you would develop the small Window mechanic in the future, maybe everything outside the window is only defined by its outlines? Like you wouldn't see enemies or props until you get very close to them, something like that. Also maybe look into the game Windowkill for other ideas about using Browser Windows as game mechanics. Overall, nice concept! Interested to see if you do more with it.

Shrimpy by Kultuk 2024-10-14T18:33:25Z

Fun game with an effective core idea, works well with the theme! It's simple but works well, the mechanic of having to spend time to collect bonus points provided a good risk/reward system to keep the challenge up, especially later on when it felt like the screen was moving up faster (it was, right? Or am I just crazy?). Is it completable, or does it just keep going on forever? Just curious. Regardless, was a fun, simple experience! Nice work.
