5/5 on the cute visuals. I love the little view into a big world feel the game has.

The controls aren't listed anywhere, so I had to experiment to figure them out. It was also awkward using the mouse button to swing the sword, since otherwise the mouse doesn't have any affect on the game.

Otherwise the rules were well telegraphed, and the character felt good to control. Was there gameplay you had in mind for the mini window other than just a visual thing?

becher 2024-10-07 21:02

@sudocoffee thanks :) I didn't really know where to put the attack button, since space was already taken, on another key it would have been hard to find without a guide. But i will try with Shift for roll and Space for attack, maybe it's better. The mini window was here to fully embrace the pitch ha ha, and also a way to show as little information as possible, if it wasn't here, i should have placed life, key and money on screen as basic UI.

Awesome game! The concept of the little window inside the bigger world view was so fun. The dialogue text also made me laugh.

I'd love to have some music in there as well for the tiny people. Using a button to swing the sword or maybe having the character orient towards the click might make the combat more interactive

Very cute game, the graphics are amazing! Some 8bit sound effects would fit the theme a lot, too. Anyway, I had a lot of fun.

obi-w 2024-10-09 08:36

非常有意思,美术风格也很棒,即便用抽象的点代替文字,但玩家依旧能理解,缺点在于不是很扣题,流程过短It's very interesting and the art style is also fantastic. Even though abstract dots are used instead of words, players can still understand it. The drawback is that it doesn't quite match the theme closely, and the process is too short.

tygrak 2024-10-09 08:48

That was super cool! What a great idea -- cool execution of the theme. I only wish it was longer.

becher 2024-10-09 09:06

@tygrak depending on my motivation, but i wish it too ;)

sooes 2024-10-09 09:15

I wish I could play it ;-; When it goes to itch the game is just a black screen. Could be just a problem on my side but will come back and hopefully it works!

Great concept anyways!

becher 2024-10-09 09:25

@sooes, strange  on which web browser did you try it?

wo-ri-gou-le 2024-10-09 10:03

Dude you just nailed the theme in such humorous way! (~~Eventhough it's just god's-eye view of zelda minish cap~~)

I like those clasic zelda-ish things shrinked in this way, just funny and hahaha so funny, sad it dont come with sound effects, which will definitely make the joke epic level

sooes 2024-10-09 10:14

@becher It was firefox, maybe I should have used chrome 🤔

becher 2024-10-09 12:21

@sooes i just try it on firefox and it work fine, i don't know what happen for you, is it the only web browser game that have this isssue on your side?

goddoesplaydice 2024-10-09 12:33

That's genius! I don't know how, but I understand the dialogues! It's a very cool idea in general

jemh2k 2024-10-09 13:59

Very cute game!! If you keep working on it, I'd love to play it again with sounds! Some cool little 8bit stuff would be awesome. Love the window around the player, makes it feel a bit META!!

quasilyte 2024-10-09 19:45

The only thing that somewhat decreased the level of fun for me is the lack of attack cooldown. The moment I realized I can just stand and spam clicks I stopped trying to avoid enemy attacks as they would not have a chance anyway. I have a feeling this game is not that centered about the combat as it looks more like a performance than a mechanical game, but nonetheless, the combat is one of the most used mechanic here. A simple 0.5s or so cooldown would make the player motivated to run away from the mob or even roll/dodge (especially since you already implemented it, it's well animated!)

I was feeling like a man from a meme "too small, can't read" xD

becher 2024-10-09 21:15

@quasilyte Thanks for your feedback. I'm not covinced that a cooldown should be a good idea, i love 2D zelda of this style and they don't have one, this is the divesity of mob and their number that make the interest. I admit that with groups of 3 same mobs, it's less interesting ha ha.

But if I add one, it will certainly not during 0.5s :D too long for the rythm I guess.

Honestly loved this little entry. Pretty funny take and I thought the visuals were well done even for being tiny. Wish there was more. A boss or something even if it was simple would've been a great way to end it. I thought it was funny you can still talk to people and I just felt compelled to despite not being able to read it. Well done presentation.

Good job!

kadokta 2024-10-09 22:22

Wow, using the scale for the font like that is really creative. Well done!

lelulagames 2024-10-14 12:45

It is a beautiful game. I feel like I'm playing a zelda like without knowing the story. They are talking to me, and something's going on, but I don't know what exactly. But does the story really matter when you're just fighting and smashing jars? The only thing I found frustrating was the inability figure out the attack button. I see now that it is right there on the diagram but I didn't realize that's what it meant at first.

Also I'm not sure about the use of the black box around the character instead of having the UI full screen. I assumed it's a style choice. But it is an interesting effect.

dgspitzer 2024-10-14 12:46

That's a brilliant idea, also love the way tutorial is written, very innovative!

orbitaldot 2024-10-14 13:05

This is so cool!!!!! My mind's racing with other things that could be done with this format, maybe enemies that are only visible on the tiny game window? Or vice-versa? I came here from your devlog on the front page, I'm very interested in seeing a post-jam version of the game and am looking forward to playing it :D

tarisma 2024-10-14 13:20

I just had such a great time ! It's SUCH A GOOD IDEA and there's a real vibe coming off the game. Well played !

drludos 2024-10-14 17:45

Wow, a very good idea, and I love the graphic artstyle! Even without being able to read text, the whole game works so well!

I really hope you keep working on it, by adding more content and by adding some sounds maybe?

Also, maybe this is a bad idea, but wouldn't be better if the area outside of the windows was less visible? Not totally dark, but maybe slightly darker? It would emphasize the "tiny windows onto a big world" idea IMHO.

A very unique entry, congrats!

shoppncart 2024-10-14 18:38

Interesting idea! i like the theme you're going for here, extra kudos for making the tiny text in the tutorial image readable enough to know what some directions are without breaking the style (like labelling buttons for dodge and attack). I would be curious to see how you would develop the small Window mechanic in the future, maybe everything outside the window is only defined by its outlines? Like you wouldn't see enemies or props until you get very close to them, something like that. Also maybe look into the game Windowkill for other ideas about using Browser Windows as game mechanics. Overall, nice concept! Interested to see if you do more with it.

becher 2024-10-15 08:14

@drludos hi  thanks for your feedback! Yes i'm thinking about what to do with the outside, it will give more importance of the window as you said. For sound, I won't do it, I don't like to deal with the sound on my project, but I will find someone to do it one day

becher 2024-10-15 08:17

Hi @shoppncart, thanks. Yes i was wondering if i can use the small window in game mechanics, there is something to try. About the browser window, I hadn't considered it, good idea

vivyhasadream 2024-10-16 01:33

cool window concept, tho it's a little too short and I'm hoping to see more the small window could do.

bradur 2024-10-22 12:14

It's very cute and cool but there's not much game here. The stylistic choices are very interesting but I think you should still list the keys somewhere 😅. I had to come here to check the comments to see what keys to use.
