LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deep Sea Explorer by interface 2021-04-26T16:16:00Z

This was a fun and refreshing entry, a lot of the games have been a bit dreary, so it's nice to see a bright and fun take on the theme.

Some feedback: the craft could move a bit faster, and the game could be improved dramatically with a better camera. It mostly shows what's behind the player in the direction they're moving (for example most of the screen is devoted to what's above me if I'm moving down), which isn't ideal because... well, you can't see where you're going! Not a problem unique to your game of course :P

So far my favorite game from this event, has a really fun punchy gameplay loop. Trying to plan a decently efficient route against the breath timer is a lot of fun.

I made it to 313 btw

Big fan of these kinds of games, kudos for trying something this tough for a compo... and having anything at all to show for it! Others may disagree, but I kind of love the aesthetic, it's quite nostalgic.

I didn't manage to accomplish much... I dug into my neighbor's house but then they came and ate my queen.

The Life Aquatic by Cary Stanley 2021-04-27T23:12:23Z

Love the silly voice acting and the music : )

I'll echo what others have said though and admit it's a pretty tough game! My suggestion would be to make O2 tanks more plentiful, or reward more O2, one or the other would I think strike a good balance.

I love fishing games and this one is really nice and relaxing, has great potential.

Brubnar the Barbarian in the Deepest Dungeon by Quinn_Patrick 2021-04-26T20:35:34Z

this game sparks joy

I really like the music, the combat is just tricky enough, the feel of the game was somehow very cozy and nostalgic... but my favorite part? running faster diagonally.

DEEPER by eboatwright 2021-04-26T20:20:02Z

really polished and juicy for a jam game... I think you nailed the Downwell feel cause I'm just as terrible at your game as I am at Downwell :P

Absurdly impressive for a jam game, kudos to you! Game is beautiful, plays well, is a really interesting take on the theme... also personally, I like the square aspect ratio a lot.

nice game, pico8 is wonderful isn't it? I like that you don't lose immediately when you run out of hearts but have a chance to get your breath back

No other game from the jam so far hooked me this much. At first I didn't like the controls but then I realized it's sort of the point, gingerly nudging around the submarine creates exactly the right mood. Forcing you to pick up loot by risking bonking against the surface is another thing was similar: annoying at first but actually perfect for the game. Really enjoyed this one, thank you!

@rhoff95 There's a safe tile where you can breathe that's on the path to the first powerup : )

really fun game :) interesting to see an entire game built around what is usually a side mechanic, and to see that it works so well!

Swarm! by Ghost_Wave 2021-04-26T16:07:47Z

The audio in this is pretty phenomenal, the music and SFX work together extremely well. Only drawback to that is that between enemies I felt the urge to spam the traps to play along with the music, and couldn't! :P
