LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Story Collabs by Maakep 2018-04-24T19:45:10Z

I really enjoy "exquisite corpse" story-writing sessions. You never know what you're going to end up with once it's over. The concept of Internet crowd-sourcing the story is a novel one, and to see things added in real-time is a treat.

Is there any way for you to ensure that only one person can be "in line" to update the story next? Can you have multiple stories available for participants to add to at the same time? Is there any way to finish a story, and will the stories be able to be read after they're done?

Bridge Run by block97 2018-04-24T02:55:33Z

I really enjoyed this! Definitely worth coming back to and practicing. If I were to suggest anything, I'd suggest being able to discard a player's hand of options, since sometimes you'll be stuck in a lane (the top edge or the bottom edge) and you'll have no options for steering into a different lane no matter what you try.

Well done! I had fun with this one.

Judgement Day: The Board Game by hhsaez 2018-04-25T00:25:55Z

Made me feel like I was playing text-based BBS games from back in the day. The comments regarding the writing are spot-on: despite the lack of graphics, I felt drawn in to the story and wanted to keep playing. I immediately felt at home with the role of a Space Marine or some kind of futuristic soldier, blowing away aliens on a moon base (or wherever). Very Doom-like vibe created with the writing.

I'm not sure how it happened, but after playing for a bit the screen went dark and all I could read was the red text. I quit after that point and will restart to see if I can make it all the way through.

Oh man, it was heartbreaking to fall into a hole due to a "bad" roll. :)

I also design tabletop games as a hobby, so this was a special treat. Well done!

Simple Galactic by Arqcenick 2018-04-26T11:49:14Z

Had a lot of fun piecing together an interplanetary empire. The Redraw mechanic wasn't working, but after a couple plays I felt proficient and I was able to keep going until my score reached nearly 350. I topped off my Subgalactic Federation with Galactic Football and Alien Artifacts. :)

Seeing the "transportation networks" pop up between planets was a nice treat - and a clue to focus on finding a new planet next. Well done all around. :)

Ghost&Balls by kamtar 2018-05-03T21:45:11Z

Old-skool puzzle-plus-spooky fun! I do agree with some of the comments about allowing 360-degree aiming, but other than that the game makes a lot of sense, was easy to pick up, and made me curious to see more. If you do pick it up again, I'd be interested to see what sorts of ways you would want to make later levels more challenging and different. Well done! :)

Racing Defender by nicksmaddog 2018-04-26T02:04:41Z

This has been one of my most enjoyable LD games I've played yet. I personally enjoy the retro vibe you created. It's a great combination of 8-bit racing games from my youth, and the more advanced tower defense games that came out decades later. I'm a big fan of retro music and SFX and I think you nailed those nicely. Good work with Godot! Nice match with the theme, for sure.

Yeah, I agree that it's challenging, but the urgency adds to the atmosphere and I felt like I was becoming better at it the more I played. I think I'd like to try my own hand at making a game like this.

EDIT: Just beat it! It's a satisfying quick fix, for sure. :)

I bet that your CATS look good in the dance floor by agar3s 2018-05-02T20:11:56Z

Your artwork is adorable! I'm a fan of retro-style graphics, and to see them in a cute hot-seat puzzle game was fun to find. I think it was smart to re-skin the same figures which likely streamlined your animation process. Well done. :)

Cyclevania by Allen Oliver 2018-05-03T21:37:48Z

Had a blast with this one! Really nice combination of different games here. I could definitely see this as a game on my NES back in the day, and could imagine me spending every Saturday morning exploring every level and possible route through the castles. Nice work! :)

Typer: (Word Search X Top Down ARPG) by agentendercake 2018-05-03T21:28:41Z

Had a lot of fun with this one. I like several of the suggestions above. If you come back to this project, there are a lot of ways you could make it even more interesting. However, what you came up with for LD - including restarting from scratch! - is very impressive! Well done. :)

Farmer's Delight: A Twin-Stalk Shooter by Dovakla 2018-04-26T01:45:10Z

I enjoyed puzzling out the balance between growth to harvest, and growth to KILL. It was a nice decision point to face. Once I discovered the shopkeeper, I was impressed with the variety of hostile plants. Definitely scratches that twin-stick shooter itch. The tension that mounts when the plants start wriggling was a nice touch. Well done!

Shmlashing Shplanets by let-off-studios 2018-04-25T11:50:05Z

Thanks for the feedback! I've updated the instructions just a little bit so that might help a new player.

I appreciate that you took the time to play Shmlashing Shplanets. It's my first LD game and I really didn't know what to expect. :)

Shmlashing Shplanets by let-off-studios 2018-04-27T21:40:56Z

Yeah, the sound is fine with me. It's a mass-correction of placement of the planets until no more of them overlap one another.

I personally go for a "trashgame" aesthetic, so these kinds of things aren't so bad in my book. What I don't have in skills, I make up for in gusto. :)

Thanks for playing, @Dovakla !

@niterich, I've received a number of reports about Chrome not playing games correctly. I suspect it has something to do with the exporter (I use Clickteam Fusion), since it's not just with this game. My apologies. It's kinda beyond my control, and your perseverance is appreciated.

In any case, thanks for playing and taking the time to offer your detailed feedback!

@ratherjolly, oh man! I hadn't heard about Crayola Art Studio until you mentioned it. What a throwback, eh? I liked using so many bright, saturated colours for this one, and although I am not exactly a kid of the 90's I can see the attraction and a lot of my aesthetic emerging from that era.

The perhaps "overzealous" or maybe "enthusiastic" use of random sound-files is DEFINITELY something I want to do more of in the future. Thanks for letting me know about it, and of course thanks for taking the time out to play and comment on my game. :)

Last Stand. [Web Play] by Darkwing00Duck 2018-04-27T13:46:57Z

What a trip! This communicates the theme exceptionally well. Polished graphics and mechanics. I could even turn the pieces like in Tetris! Had a fun time with this.

I'm grateful it was playable in browser too, since this is a nice game for a coffee break. Nice job!
