LD51 — Every 10 seconds

The Cult of the Ancient One by someone 2022-10-13T06:30:15Z

This is impressive work! The game is very difficult partly reasonably, but partly because the interface and controls are a bit complicated. Lack of sound and color is disappointing but entirely understandable - like I said, this is an impressive game to design and implement in just 3 days time, and it's challenging in a way many jam games aren't. Kudos!

There are a lot of games in this jam that use "Every 10 Seconds" to create a lot of tension, but this maybe takes the cake, it's a frantic scramble trying to find useful items. The dialog in the endings is remarkably well done in a Jam timeframe, and the hints at what was missing when you don't quite make it to an ending are well done without being too forced. I appreciate the mix of sensible and wacky endings, as well! The only thing that would have made the experience any smoother would be a faster way to advance dialog or restart, so you can try again quicker when you know what ending you're trying to get but failed to get it in time, but that's a pretty minor nitpick all things considered. Well done!

KILLING TIME: The Dimensional RPG by Spex130 2022-10-12T13:23:41Z

Okay, I really enjoyed this. I'm fascinated by games that make gameplay out of navigating the menu, and all the novel ways the bosses mess with you really delivered on that! Adding the spell selection after the minor bosses also really added a lot of satisfying decisions and replayability, both really hard to fit into a game jam, so kudos for that. On top of all that, the sound and visuals have a lot to love in a really unique style that helps you stand out from the pack. Only thing I could think to suggest is maybe SLIGHTLY more variety in your base move list besides varying levels of damage, but that's really minor. Overall a very impressive package!

Cool game! I didn't think the 10 seconds theme was that prominent at first, but once I figured out the strategy of timing your screen transitions to either minimize the risk of the monster blocking your way or maximize jump scares for viewers, maintaining that balance became interesting and I was watching the clock constantly. I also thought I noticed the amount of time between the monster appearing and starting to move seemed to scale down based on the number of relics I had, in which case that was a clever way to ramp the tension!

The overall art and sound presentation was top notch, and I even thought the random dialog with chat was pretty good! The only things that I felt like like needed some tweaks were some of the artifact locations being a bit too difficult - either too narrow to get in and out with the monster chasing, and the monster being weirdly prone to spawning directly in the way - and a couple spots on the right side of the map where the monster really liked to spawn directly on top of you, guaranteeing a death if it started moving quickly. Both minor quibbles - this game is a serious accomplishment!

Star Sweeper by Notan Lemon 2022-10-13T06:43:56Z

Spectacular! Maybe my favorite I've played yet. The progression of each stage from exploring the board, to figuring out the puzzle elements, to optimizing your path was really satisfying. The later stages with new tile mechanics were inspired as well, I had at least a couple "aha!" moments that really sold me on the concept. Very well done!

Great core gameplay, and a cool way to scale the player's "power", but I think it might be a bit too difficult, especially the Wyrm Rush mode (impressive completing multiple game modes in one jam though!) I think an easy improvement might be to increase the speed and/or size of the player's primary weapon projectile so that it's a little easier to defend yourself. Definitely a solid base, would love to come back to this one!

THE_MACHINE_KNOWS_HATE by HexyVexy 2022-10-13T21:03:04Z

A great example of solid, straightforward core gameplay elevated by strong theme and atmosphere - not an easy thing to pull off in a jam! I wish a few more of the stages required a little more solving, but that's pretty minor - well done!

You Fix Spaceships! by BeetleBox 2022-10-13T20:51:48Z

Simple, solid gameplay, adorably weird art, and a heartwarming tone - I really needed to find this today. :D The whole package comes together to make a remarkably memorable experience. There's not a whole lot of time pressure, but there didn't need to be - the experience was better for it. Thank you for making this!
