LD30 — Connected Worlds

Suburban Garden by Ian MacLarty 2014-08-25T13:51:00

I got bored after 5 minutes of flying around. Like the other people have said, it's a really cool idea to use connecting photographs as the backdrop, but in the time I played I reached literally no gameplay.

Data-Man by Hyoga-3D 2014-08-25T13:22:00

Very cool, it feels like a mix of Packman and Sonic. Unfortunately I couldn't beat even one of the maps, because my guy kept getting stuck in intersections or randomly turning. It happened more at the high speeds. Not sure it you could even reliably win at those speeds, with human reflexes (although the little 'I'm about to die' slow mo helps a lot).

Very cool reimagining of an old game.

Connected Caves by Birke 2014-08-27T22:50:00

The aesthetic and control scheme are great, the changing music and environments set a nice mood but there's no gameplay to speak of. Even a few simple enemies chasing me to the portal would have raised this several notches.

Leaving 'fun' as n/a.

Seems glitchy, I kept walking off the edges, getting black screens or flipping my screen. No idea how the color changing or firing mechanics worked after 5-8 minutes of play. Here's a video where you can watch some glitches and my thoughts [1:30]

Micro-Cosmic by MicroChasm 2014-08-27T23:03:00

Very cool game, this gets my first 5 star rating of 22 games. Great aesthetics, genuinely fun gameplay, appropriate music, excellent story and amazing delivery with the gradual exposition/fading text between levels, and the mix of the super tiny vs super large picture gameplay. I made it back with but one ship =O

I hope to be able to apply lessons from this to future projects. Very well done.

Not sure how the commenting works here, but to address your comment on my game: All the assets including models were made in the 48 hours, and my internet died so I couldn't post the source at that time.

The source is up now if you want to confirm the timestamps. It is not "Ugly".

Everything you see above was made in the 48 hours, human models included. Don't make assumptions. I'll post a timelapse soon.

I tried to post the source but my internet crapped out. I'll post it soon and you can check the timestamps.

Thank you! I'm glad you got it working at all. In retrospect I should have downscaled the demon mesh, they move too quick anyway.

Low-cost Delivery by katanagari7c1 2014-08-27T22:25:00

The slingshotting is super weird and doesn't represent the real technique at all. I had best luck with just relying on rocket boost and drifting. Also why is there drag?

The concept has a lot of potential but it's not well applied here. The graphics and sound are well done for a 2 day game though.

BingaR - Story driven platformer by DvanderAart 2014-08-25T13:37:00

I loved the aesthetic, the opening exposition went a bit long though. Maybe you could have spread it around a bit more between gameplay? Or maybe I'm just weary and it wasn't THAT long...

Interesting idea of doing a story game.

Styx by alpha_rats 2014-08-25T11:58:00

Very nice to look at, great use of the theme. The skulls are tough to kill without slowing down and the gameplay is simple, but you kept it short so it doesn't get repetitive.

Adamantium Cyborg by TD5 2014-08-25T12:46:00

Quite good, feels very complete. Arrows would have been nice, it took a lot of wandering around before I figured out I had to hug the side and slide down the up elevator. Boss fight felt cheap, a checkpoint would have been nice. Gave up after three boss deaths.

Building Bridges! by JetL33t 2014-08-25T12:06:00

Spent 10 minutes trying to make it across the first orange block and pick up... Something? Don't know what I was supposed to grab, or if the tractor beam is a toggle or you have to hold it. The rotation is so sluggish the damn thing is always out of control, too.

No rating, gave up.

The Nether by GFM 2014-08-27T22:43:00

Never played a sidescrolling RTS like this, weird. I beat the first battle as the dark'ans, then I guess the game froze during the cinematic? Or is that the end?

Not very much fun telling a dozen guys to fire their weapons and then watching the little baddies outrun the bullets for ten seconds. Music got old quick too. I'm impressed that you've made a unit management game with full cinematics in 48 hours, but I'm not sure where the strategy or skill enters the gameplay. Also clicking little people and menus is annoying, would prefer keyboard controls or multi-select.

Dario Runner by Herman Groenenboom 2014-08-25T12:14:00

Enjoyable, I got 321 meters. It could do with a quicker difficulty ramp, I was getting bored of the repetition by the time I finally died.

I guess it fits the theme but it's a bit of a stretch, the top part doesn't really feel like a world, since it's so random and there's no context...? Maybe I'm being picky.
