Love the artstyle of characters. I hope the design of dialogue is a reference to a Metal Gear
This is exactly my idea of a good time. Lovely little experience, top vibes!
Really made me so nostalgic *warms up soldering iron*
Very cute! The gameplay was simple but effective, just enough to motivate things. The real shine here is the awesome character, lots of fun art (I especially loved seeing all the splash screens as the consoles booted up!), and great writing. The writing was really nice, and the ending is touching. Great submission!
The game loaded instantly, and everything runs quickly and smoothly. The old manuals and computers create the atmosphere of a vintage electronics repair shop. It’s really cool and reminds me a little of Zachtronics games on Steam. It’s very well done.
The one thing I’d wish for is a way to play without reading so much text. On the third evening of working on our Ludum Dare game all day, that much reading is difficult. Highlighting where to click and what to do, at least in the early stages, would help me understand how things work.
Overall, it’s great. I didn’t immediately understand how to desolder a broken component, but I eventually figured it out.
Great job!
This is really fun. I found the characters and dialog really cute but I feel like there was a bit too much and not enough gameplay. I only say this because I found the gameplay really fun and relaxing and could wait to get back to it. The music was also so chill. I could totally see this being a full game where the devices you're repairing and the damage you're fixing are getting increasingly complex. Great job guys!
Amount of dialogues is insane (in a good way!). Style is also very good! Also someone please explain how is dialogues is a reference to Metal Gear?
FANTASTIC!! This was so much fun!! My only critique is being able to control the volume of the music somehow, or ot have some more sfx - otherwise it was so much fun and so creative!
Great work! Love how this game came out. Gameplay is easy enough to figure out and get a groove on, graphics are very well put together, and nothing overstays its welcome. It works great as a Ludum game especially, since I'm not totally sure how you could expand on it moving forward. It's a really efficiently designed game as-is.
Awesome little game! The characters are cute,i loved how the banter felt natural, the music is boppin, and i can relate with the message.
Some criticism, the gameplay loop has a lot of potential and i wish i saw some more variation here. Also echoing the other comments, the dialogue was long compared to the amount of gameplay.
This one is great. Feels like a real game. Everything looks and works great. I had fun looking up the parts and dragging and dropping capacitors and chips and stuff. The instructions were very clear. This one is a surprise to me. Had a lot of great dialogue too. Fantastic work!
My favourite entry so far. How did you manage to do all the graphics, music, writing, and gameplay in just 72 hours? That’s kinda crazy. I love the music, the vibes, the gameplay... everything feels so smooth.
I checked the Sources tab in the browser, and what a surprise! Not many people use Heaps these days.
@emeraldrat I’m guessing the Metal Gear comparison comes from the layout, with the two portraits and the dialogue underneath. Especially the part where you’re talking to an unknown character.
Very good game, I really enjoyed, the story is a little funny. For the gameplay, I think having a faster way to seeing the docs for the current machine, or a way to click, instead of having to everything press the key, don't get me wrong, that mechanic is pretty cool, but the game is heavily mouse only, and its weird that one part not accepting mouse.
I also think the UI for each piece could use some change, I was always clicking on the black box around it, thinking it would be enough, but no, has to be exactly on the piece. But regardless, it is a pretty impressive and awesome game, I really liked and enjoyed!!
As a fan of these sorts of ancient pieces of technology, I have a great appreciation for this game and I can 100% get behind the sentiment at the end of the game, love it.
Really fun attention to detail across the whole game. I love the different brands of computers, the specialty replacement parts, each computer and company has a culture and legacy that the characters discuss, even down to the logo being different for each computer. There's a real soul to No Replacements.
The game has a nice coat of polish. There's music for the talking scene and repairing scene, fun character portraits, plenty of character dialogue and personality. The only thing I really noticed is that sound effects are pretty sparse, but they are present in the most critical places such as the snipping when replacing parts and successfully turning on the device. At that, I'm not certain what else you could change about the game because as is, it's a great entry.
Tight, concise and as mentioned above, has a real heart to it that I can get behind.
Immaculate soundtrack oh my, the sound design in general is amazing.
Awesome game, very cozy and the art style is cool!
The atmosphere of the vintage shop, filled with old computers and manuals, is perfectly captured. I especially enjoyed the tactile experience of tracking down and carefully placing the right components to fix the damage. Really great job bringing this specialized hobby into a game!
Finished the game! Smooth repairment experience. A bit confused at first, cause for "next" and "previous" you must click on the text to work, but I love the idea. Did not pay much attention on the dialog, cause it is a bit too much compared to actual play time, but the UI style blends in well.
非常好的设计,非常完善,修复损坏元件的玩法也非常美妙!!
This is exactly my idea of a good time. Lovely little experience, top vibes! Awesome, your game is magnificent! I had a blast playing it, really cool stuff
You get swept up in the story, and you replace the worn-out parts. The clues in the documentation are well-integrated.
Cool experience, great retro vibes here !
Could not fix Sunset Makina (last in the three-set you get at once). Followed the BBQ recommendation exactly. Great music, cute dialogs, but probably not the kind of gameplay I'm into. Some less trivial tasks, but with explicitly defined rules (such as combining several resistors to get a specific resistor or something) cwould make it more interesting for me.
omg, how I ADORED this game! Absolutely everything on it is right up my alley. As a person that love to watch old tech repair videos to sleep, the way you captured the love and the personality that is hold in each one of these beautiful machines deeply resonates with me and fits the spirit of the theme so well. I loved all the small references scattered around the places, it makes the overall experience even nicer, and having to check the bbs to learn about each repair is such a nice flair for a game about handling old junk! I also really enjoyed the pacing of the story and all the characters, the designs are specially nice, the whole art with the gray toned photo and the beautifully dithered squared buttons of the interface screams PC98 all over the place and feels so authentic! Overall really enjoyable one, I would for sure play a full game in this idea! Thank you for the game! :)
This game has such cool vibes, I really want to learn more about these characters and this world.
The repair gameplay got a little tedious, it'd be nice if there were more rules or components that were introduced over time, or if failure was a possibility.
I loved this! Great music and dialog along with the art made me really feel like I was in Tomoko's shoes.
I feel the repair portion could have had a little more complexity, since it really is just "replace broken component with what the documentation says."
I also got a little confused when the first Alice 68k finish dialog mentioned Reia when we hadn't even seen that character yet. I believe it should have been Marika?
Wow what a fully-realized vision! I played through to completion.
I loved the vibe. The work-story/tech-puzzle reactivated some old familiar paths from playing zachtronics games in a nice way, and the music kept me in that flow state.
I hit power to fuzz exactly once, and there were a lot of nice touches in the interface that I appreciated. The fact that "E" instantly exited the BBS even when it wasn't a listed option was a life-saver, and I also appreciated that where possible the tools were context-aware so that I didn't have to do a tool-select click between every single interaction. I did hit "B" a few times hoping it would bring up the BBS, but that was really the only affordance I reached for that wasn't present.
The characters were great, carried partly by the excellent art but also by the writing. I'm glad you didn't try to drag out the jam experience - the game length was spot on, and the complexity of the puzzles couldn't have supported a much longer runtime. But there is probably some more advanced version of this where a story gently develops sinister subplots in the background which I enjoy imagining.
I also wondered what time pressure would do to the experience of repair. I'm mostly glad you DIDN'T do that, but it did make me curious.
Anyway, all-around excellent entry, congrats!
@arlius We had plans for a bit more complexity at the later stages with more component types and more complex problems (some of this is built, but just unused). Alas, time... And yeah good catch on the Reika callout there. I wrote a lot of the story at like 3am and had realized I mixed the two characters up at some point. I thought I fixed all of those but just now noticed that Kiri screenshotted one of the places I missed...
@pkenney There were originally plans to give a "repair score" that was a confluence of mistakes, time, etc), but it wasn't super clear what value it was going to add to the experience, so it got cut pretty fast. I had planned to add a few more sections to the BBS that had some more world building text in it as well, and scoring repair this way would have taken away from that aspect.
Cool music, arts and positive vibes
Everything in this game feels retro and I love it! The boot sound is a cherry on the top. I enjoyed the fact there was no time constraint involved. Just take your time and chip away with the process, step by step.
Good times, great work!
