Your game doesn't work
The jump mechanic was well made! The game was a bit confusing at first but I got the hang of it after a bit.
@itero-proto Hey, could you be more specific? I tested on two different browsers and got it to work (although I had to update the other to enable hardware acceleration)
cool dynamics in movement mechanics! having a scoreboard, execution heavy movement and a difficult level design makes you want to play again, to be a bit faster, to beat other players, and to master the game. enjoyed it a lot
Ha! Like how the other players are part of the game! I made a somewhat similar game in a previous Ludum Dare. Neat way to bring in a competitive aspect pretty quickly
If I was making one changed it'd be... maybe tweaking how jumping worked, instead of punishing the player if they mess up, just giving the boost if they got the timing right. Not saying what you added was bad though, I like how I added a significant skill challenge and something to get good at
I love the sound effects in this. The pseudo-multiplayer aspect of having the ghosts be other players usernames is very interesting too. Not seen that before in a game jam before.
The jumping took me ages to get the timings right but once I did I could consistently do it. Felt satisfying once I'd figured it out but it is a bit difficult to master. I think slightly increasing the timing window would've helped a lot there. But otherwise a fun entry.
Fun game! I love the pay respects thing, meme well used sir! I like the mechanics you made, the tomb-sense and the rolling effect for the jump are clever ideas. I feel the jump mechanic could have been a little more forgiving though The level design is fun too, there is enough variation
The highscore table is a cool addition. It makes players more competitive. Only thing I would add: some music. Even a simple loop in the background would do wonders I think.
I had fun playing your game
@wouter52 I actually did write a small track for the game, but it started sounding grating to me when I was testing so decided it that I was probably better off without it. My very limited skills can maybe pull off something atmospheric but racing needs something more punchy
Speed running mourning! It's pretty amazing you got replay ghosts from other players in and definitely added a lot. The roll after jumping took me a while to figure out, I thought my guy was just _really_ bad a jumping.
Pretty hard to nail that roll consistently! You have my respect (F).
Finally nailing that roll after the jump felt amazing! And I love the idea of being able to compete against others. Great entry!
I'm very bad at jumping is an issue but other t han that this really did come in a neat compact package. F!
Also the speedrun aspect of it is all very clean even though I'm bad at it.
Very nice gameplay! It's cool that you can see the ghosts of what others have done. My only critique on the movement is the fixed distance of the jump and how it doesn't carry the same momentum. It made jumping some gaps a bit tricky. Otherwise, really nice work! Loved the SFX!
I loved racing the others around to find graves, but I must not have understood the game well because I always came in last with 0 points. Great work on the controls, the jump was strange but satisfying to master.
I did find the controls a little annoying but that is partly my fault for having an odd keyboard with the arrow keys in a separate macro layer. The jump and roll mechanic was unique but did feel a little unforgiving but that made nailing it feel much better. I like the ghosts of other players as well even if that did just highlight that I did bad.
The controlls are nice once you get a hang of it, but some more juicyness, some more feedback on everything would make it a lot more fun.
Managed to pay respect enough before the time ran out :)
@ausstein definitely, I ran into my usual issue where I actually got to test the game too late so adding oomph to things that felt like they needed it didn't make the cut5
@surfa the roll has definitely been polarizing. People have really enjoyed mastering it but I could definitely see the failstate being too harsh. More time actually playing the game would have caught issues like these.
@bentglasstube Hmm, not certain what could be the issue. Some people have really given it all and could be just a skill difference. If you are not using the radar and instead just search for the graves that definitely takes a big chunk out of your time.
Just making a game on your own already deserves my admiration.
Congratulations on your work.
