Neat concept. I had trouble aiming at start, but once I got used to it it was rather easy, I feel this could be really fun if pace was faster and different types of insects were there~ Though then it's turned into EArth Defence force haha. Solid work!

grut607 2024-10-07 13:30

The game is not bad but there are problems with shooting. And when you lose on itch it is impossible to start the game again or exit unless you restart the site page

soloadventurergames 2024-10-07 14:57

@grut607 whoops I fixed the issue on level complete but forgot it does the same thing on death 😅

soloadventurergames 2024-10-07 14:58

@svenerik inhave plans to add more bugs and different rooms and different shots and stuff later on, level 3 has small fast ants

grut607 2024-10-07 15:01

@soloadventurergames Well, it's not a big deal, it's not always possible to keep track of everything.

fnelix 2024-10-07 19:30

Throwback to Earth Defense Force! Nice, but shooting and movement feel pretty slow and sluggish.

plasmapuffs 2024-10-08 01:54

This is game is absolutely hilarious and satisfying! On that last level, I just stayed on the plates and sniped the ants from a distance until I realized that they could climb up those if there were enough ants. Also, it is me or there's always one ant left when you win?

thomas-bringer 2024-10-08 11:54

Very cool! The theming is super nice. Gameplay is fun and I love the different maps. The one thing I would tweak is the collisions / the crosshair maybe: somehow I always struggle to hit the ants. Or maybe I'm just bad but sometimes it was like "how the hell did I not hit it" you know. A very solid entry still!

soloadventurergames 2024-10-08 14:52

@plasmapuffs yeah something got buggy in the code, I don't know why but occasionally it just wouldn't count one or two of the ants lol

and that's awesome I hadn't intended for that to work like that with the ants piling up, a bug made the bugs work like bugs

soloadventurergames 2024-10-08 14:53

@thomas-bringer yeah the cross hair was a pain in the ass to get working, on the normal desktop version it works fine but transitioning to html5 broke it somehow, I tried to get it near enough in the last 30 or so minutes  glad you enjoyed it

greymouth 2024-10-10 18:15

I ran into a bug where the angle is constantly rotating to the right slowly, but otherwise was fun! I love the audio designs and the environment made me feel like a kid again playing with army toys on the ground. Congratulations!

nickhellquist 2024-10-10 18:17

Cool game :D love the tank sounds, and 3d textures. Always nice to shoot up some ants!! Well done :)

wouterk12 2024-10-10 18:29

Fun to play! I think the game will be a bit more challenging when the ants run around a little faster, but overall cool entry and fun environment! :D

soloadventurergames 2024-10-10 18:30

@wouterk12 level 3 has the ants smaller and faster, and level 2 they move a tiny bit faster but not much, wanted to ramp up the difficulty  thank you for playing

soloadventurergames 2024-10-10 18:43

@greymouth that's a weird one I wonder what cause it, tank movement is locked to WASD and the turret is on the mouse, which one was rotating slowly?

greymouth 2024-10-10 18:44

It was the mouse/aim that was stuck rotating, it didn't make the game unplayable though just had to keep adjusting the aim.

perfectsquare 2024-10-10 19:03

Good idea, and definitely captures the gross-ness of having ants crawling around your kitchen (unfortunately speaking from experience :( ). I had a bit of trouble with aiming, especially when the ants got close to the tank..not sure if I'm just unskilled or if there's some issues with how the crosshairs line up with where the shots go but overall it was pretty fun and satisfying to play!

soloadventurergames 2024-10-10 19:52

@perfectsquare yeah on web you should use the top part of the cross hair, put the ant in the V on desktop it's at the point of the V, one of the changes that happened i couldn't fix in time

mrspeaker 2024-10-11 12:01

Holy crap, I got jump-scared when I didn't realize an ant had crept up behind me.

The aiming and movement felt nice and weighty (maybe could have used a bit of knockback when you fired). Some more juice (like death explosions/screen shake) would make it feel awesome.

I think adding a second layer of requirements would make it more addictive: like, perhaps there are moving targets that you have to run over with your tank to finish the level, but the ants are also attracted to the targets making it dangerous to approach. Or something like that.

Anyhoo, great use of the theme: had a really good feeling of scale - and blowing things up is fun.

ellaris 2024-10-11 12:08

Cool game, I liked how realistic it felt, the sounds were a bit loud and it got a bit repetitive. Shooting the ants was fine for the first 2 maps, but there were a lot of them on the 3rd and it felt more like a chore at that point. It would have been cool to be able to trample/squash the ants underneath the tank, you could then maybe have bigger ants or stronger ones, and have the defeat condition be tipping over, instead of being able to driver the tank upside down. The shots bounced off of the environment so it would be cool if they also bounced off of the floor and killed the ants.

sockenpuppe 2024-10-12 16:41

Really fun to play and the different maps are great.

I didn't realise at first that I would get a game over when colliding with one of the remaining ants so imagine my surprise when one of them got me from behind haha

Might be cool to add the time it takes to clear a map or the number of shots that were needed. That way there'd be something like an additional goal for players.

crcdng 2024-10-13 19:47

Had some technical problems restarting the game but cruising with the tank felt surprisingly satisfying also because of the soundscape. Would like to see some polish in the next iteration.

metriko 2024-10-21 16:25

Ok, first of all, the concept for the game is hilarious! You are playing as a toy tank in the kitchen trying to clear this place from the running around ants. On top of that the real metallic/shooting/engine sounds add a really nice contrast to this "toy" theme.

The highlight of this game is clearly a vehicle movement and shooting, and both (even if little janky :D) felt really good to use. I was especially impressed by the physics of driving on the non-flat objects (like rocks). As for a jam game.. that is definitely well implemented character controller (including camera movement).

Ballistics for bullets felt "just right" and predictable. And on top of that the range indicator was put right in the perfect spot making it a great support for the bullet physics. All those little details made that shooting from various distances and trying to adjust an angle was just fun. I also liked that you could see a bullet flying from the side when you were driving.

Having a working AI within a obstacle-filled 3D environment in the compo entry is an achievement on its own but you even added on top of that a migration behavior. I am sure I saw it multiple times.. after a group of ants was reduced to a small number, they started running to somewhere else. That's impressive taking into account a time constraint.

I know this game is about precision but I feel like hitbox for the ants could be just a little bit bigger. It felt like I was sometimes missing shots that shouldn't miss looking at its trajectory. I was also missing a little bit of visual clue where the bullet hit. When bullet was flying too far it was hard to see where it landed therefore I wasn't sometimes sure how to adjust the angle.. it was especially the case for the level 2 where I was shooting from the edge of kitchen sink.

Overall this is a really good tank simulator wrapped around a toy-like theme. That was a great experience and I for sure had fun playing this. You should be proud, thank you for making this :D

soloadventurergames 2024-10-21 16:28

@metriko the uh.... the migration behaviour, yes totally intended....

that was honestly just a happy accident what's happening there is that the ants are too many and can't reach their patrol point because they're blocking each other.... so once you kill enough they can get to it and then the script kicks in and they move off to their next patrol point.

stmate03 2024-10-21 18:32

fun little game, I love how the ants start to swarm up near dead ants like they are trying to nurse them back to health (which is a real thing btw) sometimes when I died I got stuck but a quick reload was enough to get me back to shooting, was a fun little experience!

someone 2024-10-21 23:41

Fun concept. The tank handled well and the sounds effects made it feel nice and solid. The collision seemed a bit broken though. The physics worked driving over the rocks, but some other obstacles you can drive straight through. I managed to fall off when still on solid table.
